FWIW - My uncle was a gunnery officer in the A turret of the USS Washington when she sank the Kirishima.

That last NC could have won the game by hiding behind the island.

The armor on the North Carolina class was not the result of a tradeoff of armor for speed, it was result of a clause in the Washington and London Naval Treaties, known as the escalator clause. The treaties limited the participants in the treaty to 14" guns, however, if any of the parties withdrew from the treaty, the remaining participants were allowed to design ships armed with 16" guns. Part of the USN All or Nothing armor scheme was that battleships were armored against the guns they were equipped with. The North Carolina class was originally planned to carry 14" guns in compliance with the treaty, however, when the Japanese pulled out of the treaty system, the escalator clause was invoked, and the North Carolina class was redesigned to carry the larger caliber guns. However, it was too late to change the armor scheme to protect against the heavier guns while still complying with the ship tonnage limitations, and so the North Carolina class was completed with armor to protect them from 14" guns. The following South Dakota class was designed to comply with the treaty and still be protected against the 16" gun. (The Iowas were designed after the treaty system had collapsed due to the war, and were effectively not limited in displacement by any treaty.)

To be fair to the NC that you never saw doing much Jingles, he did nab the High Calibur before Patrick. So there WAS a sign he was doin' things. Albeit a small one.

Awesome battle. Edge of your seat stuff for a game. All you needed was Bogey or James Stewart at the end to say, "it was close boys, but we're going home".

Jingles, only the South Carolina, Wyoming, Arkansas, New York, and Texas are dreadnought battleships. The Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado are part of a series of 12 ships ordered between 1911 and 1916 and commissioned between 1916 and 1923 called US Standard type battleships. Characteristics of which are the four main gun turrets centerline with 2 fore and 2 aft, all or nothing armour scheme, 21 Knot max speed, and a tactical turn radius of 700 yards

Mr. Jingles you are indeed correct when you said it's unwise for a battleship alone, I think his intentions were to secure a zone. If it had been me I would have typed that in chat but you're right never go solo no matter how powerful you think you are there is always power in numbers which the poor fellow found out for himself

That was the best BB replay I've seen in a while. I do wish the Colorado had torps. According to the real specs on the ship it had them. That would be a surprise to a few DD drivers who ventured too close!

i miss seeing these brawls, used to actually be common for 4-5 battleships to be in a big old knife fight.

At Guadalcanal, the Washington (BB-56) closed range to under 7,500 yards before opening up on KIRISHIMA. She fired 75 of the 2,700 pound AP 16" shells in under five minutes, and scored 20 hits! (Reported by KIRISHIMA's damage control officer.) 7 of these hit underwater, one jammed her rudder. (Her armor was just thick enough to arm Washington's AP shells for maximum damage!) This gutted the ship, and she foundered as the crew was abandoning ship. She almost rolled over onto a destroyer trying to evacuate the crew! Her DC officer also reported holes blown in the ship 10 meters (33 feet!) wide! Those 16" (406mm) guns, and those 2,700 lb shells were devastating!!!

Torps on BB destroyed the last fun of BB play. These brawlings with the Nagato was why i played the game. Its so fun!

This Replay should teach us all one lesson. If there is only one half live BB in the Enemy team and you are in a full live BB this close: Go for the ram. Like you see, opting for the Brawl can get your team into a disadvantage faster than you could think.

The North Carolina is so fucking good. It's one of the ships that I won't want to get rid of, when it comes time to upgrade. Great replay.

Jingles, dude, the main draw back isn't that the guns aren't accurate when compared to other ships of that tier, it's that the shell velocity is so damn slow that firing at range means most of your opponents will have maneuvered enough (just out of the course of the battle) to be out of the way of them by the time they hit IF, you aimed them right which at 27+ KM can be a bit tricky on targets going about 30 knots. Combine that with poor secondaries, and weak citadel armor makes the North Carolina a challenge to do well in consistently without hiding in the back of the map. Still quite a good game.

Jingles, I'm pretty sure that the turtleback armour defends from close range citadels in this game. Or at least that's what I've heard. Edit: Looked it up, and yes it does defend from close range citadels, long range plunging fire bypasses it due to the angle.

I have the Bismarck, speced out for secondaries, which now have a 10+km range. Talk about brutal. And yes this was a good match.

look at the red team score during the epic broadside duel and you may rethink your appreciation of the "idiot" who stopped the ennemy atago from capping at the beginning....

Actually Sir Jingles, the iowa has the 50 caliber mark 7 guns while the NC has 45 caliber mark 6 guns. Even though the NC has guns that are 4mm bigger she doesn't fire the SHAP round (Super Heavy Armor Piercing) like the iowa and monty do in game. They're not the same by any standard. :)

The AP shell velocity on the North Carolina is also pretty garbage, it is more than 100 m/s slower than the HE shell velocity. Really painful on longer distances.

No premium repair or premium damage control.. in ranked..

The NC is actually pretty good and has pretty accurate guns by now. They were changed ages ago.

after watching this video i went out and had the best match of my career so far. six ships killed, and 100,666 damage done all in the Nassau. i was heartbroken when i found out i had to enable replays before playing the game. as a consolation prize i got a screenshot of the results screen.

actually Jingles the NC doesn't shoot the same projectiles as the Iowa and the Montana, the NC shots are much slower. And the concealment goes down to 11.8 Km, not 11.4 Km. Sorry for the fact checking, but someone had to do it :P

North Carolina is by far the best BB in the game. Unless you are fighting a Yamato, you can comfortably take on higher tier BBs if you know what you are doing. I have taken on Montanas, Iowas, and Izumos with North Carolina on my own and won. My best battle ever was with NC where I scored about 220,000 damage and killed 6 other ships. That was in a tier 7-8 battle too.

Isn't it the opposite when it comes to turtleback armor Jingles? It's at distance you CAN citadel the german BBs, at least with a North Carolina and onward in the US tech tree due to plunging fire while at closer ranges it's impossible. That's what makes the german battleships such good brawlers. They will still take massive amounts of normal penetration damage. But that's nothing compared to citadel penetrations. For example I had a nice game in my Iowa where an enemy Tirpitz showed me broadside at 17+km, thinking he was safe. Three citadel penetrations later, from the same salvo, I clearly showed him how wrong he was.

Whole load of stupid in that battle. Enemy team threw it away because they're too stupid to realise all they need do was sit back racking up the cap points and force Patrcik's team to close. But you can't expect tier 8 players in Ranked to grasp that basic truth, can you. Meanwhile Patrick and others hang back conserving their health while the rest of their team dies. He should never have come even close to winning that, and the sort of tactical ineptitude displayed at all sorts of points in that battle shows why so many couldn't be arsed with ranked muppetry.

Jingles currently the pound is $1.23 . Now in some airports you get 97 cents per pound. The British pound is crashing what are your views on that because that means that if you want to travel to any place round the world you will need to make some smart ideas of where you can get the best exchange. i thought i bring that in just so if you want to travel, you would know about the issue.
