There has to be something going on in the extraordinary song 'Something' for it to be one of the best love songs of all time right..!?
In this video I aim to analyse what it is that made Frank Sinatra say it was one of the best love songs of all time. Penned by Geroge Harrison of the Beatles around the same the same time he penned his other masterpiece 'Here comes the Sun' which incidentally far outstrips any Lennon & McCartney song for online streams!
I've chosen to look at the interesting shifts of minor third intervals within the chord progression (C - Eb and F - D) as being an element of mystical/magical flavour which adds to the sense of the mystery of love within the words and also it's extraordinary use of bass movement and a sudden unexpected leap to A major - much like the twists and turns of any love story.
What do yo think? Can you put your thing on the something special in Something? Do you agree it is one of the world's best chord progressions?? And Is it up there with the best of the Beatles back catalogue? Thanks for watching and do message/ comment if there's any songs you'd like me to look at or maybe cover.
