Big fan of this series you're doing! the presentation and musical context you give is really helpful. Would just add that to my ears, there is a Dbm7 at 'Promise myself..' before it gets to the Bbm7(b5) at 'visit a nearby tower..'.
I’ve been really enjoying your Radiohead covers, you are super talented. but damn. I just gotta say, I cannot separate the artist from the art especially when they are as notoriously racist as Clapton.
definitely an interesting band! I love viewing music from the musician's perspective, so I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the structure of the song. definitely not a song I would have expected to be as complicated as it is when you pull it apart
I believe George Martin also said this was one of his favourite Beatle songs. Thanks for your breakdown, the chord progression is magical indeed and the key shifts are so effortless.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :) Yes I believe so - he made a great record where celebs and artists sang reimagined versions of his favourite Beatles songs and this was on there - sung by Celene Dion if I remember correctly!
@@manatsea6966 yes, I did see a documentary that showed a few of the recording sessions... would you know where I can listen to see the whole album? Thanks in advance!
@@paullim8042 I’m not sure to be honest. I did have it on cd a long time ago. Here’s the Jim Carey track - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--jkaX3XKxGI.htmlsi=eJUEkZzgAwNI57N1
Such an underrated song. U killin it, exactly right voice for this song. Gotta do the interlude part, "he's forgotten but not yet goneeee", that part is so epic.
@@michaelgoikhberg3107 God yes what a line! Yeah in the interests of a shorter video sometimes I don’t do the full thing but you’re right, maybe makes more sense as a whole
@@manatsea6966 - sure, how about another from PS … “Still Crazy After All These Years”? Beautiful harmony throughout, and his music suits your voice quite well! Thanks for asking
That was sublime. I don't say this lightly, as goods as any version out there, including Radiohead. Piano and vocal were just perfection with the perfect amount of rise and fall in emotions. Very had to strip back this masterpiece but you did.
@@DerekSmyth hey. Wow…that’s a real compliment, thank you! I think that’s what makes it so special, the way it’s layered up and builds only to suddenly plunge to the bottom of the sea where the weird fishes live. Thanks for watching :)
@@manatsea6966 Brother i actually live in Liverpool and i was raised on The Beatles, So yes Massive Beatles fan, John Lennon's music in particular resonates with me most, i know this is Paul's one, but yes Love em 🤟
@@screamingunderbellyoh nice. Always feel there’s something special in the air when I visit Liverpool. But maybe that’s because I love the Beatles ha. But it’s definitely a special place
@@manatsea6966 Your piano covers are amazing bruv, have you done Martha my Dear, I'll go check to see if you have because be cool to see you do that one, and yes Sometimes us Scousers get a bad rep, but we 💯 look out for our own people, "You'll never walk alone" 🤟
@@screamingunderbellyThanks very much! Not done that one no, it's a fun one to play though for sure. Ha yeah - definitely one of the friendliest places I've ever been!
@@manatsea6966 I dont think so. The democratisation of art/ music tooling isnt making everyone brilliant artists/ musicians. Its just flooding the space with shit i.e. dramatically increasing the noise floor. And making it easier isnt going to help. Thats the thing. People love the idea of being an artist/ musician but very few people have both the innate acumen and the discipline to get good enough to be one through decades of concerted practice. Those decades of concerted practice are often the thing that allows people to develop the discernment necessary to make the good art/ music in the first place. So thats the depressing thing. Most people cant even differentiate between good art and shit art. They dont even know what to look for ... which is evidenced by the absolute crap some people are able to tolerate or even assert they enjoy. I think that discovery was proven in the last 10 years. Most people will listen to stuff that barely even constitutes music if they are told that its good. Most people cant even articulate or differentiate between different sounds at a fundemental level. They cant hear autotune artefacts, they cant hear if guitars have been obviously sped up, they cant tell if things are out of tune, they cant tell if the qualities of someones voice are terrible, if the qualities of someones instrumentation are obviously amateurish etc. How is giving those people an AI tool going to do anything even remotely interesting in their hands?
Yeah the over an hour interviews with Sting, Michael McDonald, Peter Frampton, etc are all clickbait. Rick Beato's channel gives the best inside view to modern music history and current trends. His interviews are what I watch him for, I don't care about modern music, it's crap made with computers.
I think what toe pointing out is true and not often discussed. It’s only a matter of time before we all have an ai song that scratches our personal itch
You're already behind the times. AI can already come up with something that unique and original. Do a bit more research and you'll discover that I'm right.
I think the point Rick was trying to make is that the bottom of the market will get ripped up, if you are making a Netflix documentary or are a medium sized RU-vid channel why pay a composer? The top talent will get by but when they retire who replaces them?
At the moment music and film industry are encouraging mediocrity and rehashing the same ideas, a perfect environment for AI. Hopefully soon they will become risk takers again and you are right.
I like the contrast with the verse too, always struggling to climb but falling back to that Eb. You see the bridge helping that climb up and out to the next octave, and there the struggle ends and it relaxes again, with that lovely gospel piano tinkling
Thank you for verbalizing why this song is so beautiful! I love music, but I’m not familiar with chords, so I’m really happy to understand the secret of this song now. I have enjoyed this video and other videos as well. I also like your expression in this video like “It kind of pulls you into the next wave of love”. I would love to listen to your cover “How deep is your love”! I became a fan of you as of today from Japan :) thank you!
ありがとう ございます!! Thank you for your comment, so glad you enjoyed it and to have found a follower in Japan! (I have been to Japan a few times - hopefully I’ll come back again soon!) I do my best…though words can never truly express the way makes us feel right? Ok, maybe I’ll make a cover of this one…although really it needs the harmony :) Thanks again!
@@manatsea6966 I agree with you… words can never truly do that…but I sympathize with your explanation! By the way, there is no pressure for my cover request! And, I’m so glad to hear that you have been to Japan a few times and might visit Japan again soon!! If you have any questions or want to know any recommendations for Japan, feel free to ask me please :) ありがとうございます!
