I have some and used them once in awhile. I found other charcoal/carbon pencils don't like to go over these because of the oil. Probably fine if used towards the end of a drawing. I used the extra hard(#5) for the most part and used it for fine detail at the end.

Very happy that my local store sell the conte a paris (thats not always a given in Australia) really need a black black pencil but hate the crumble. It seems to be the compromise.

I used them favorably on a portrait for the subject's plastic eye glasses. The oily build up seem to give a perfectly plastic realistic appearance.

Prismacolor has charcoal pencils. They are woodless and are supposed to be the blackest of them all.

I think you hit it on the head when you said these pencils are best in charcoal drawings. They just don't do anything that I can't do better with ordinary charcoals, or regular graphite, depending on the type of drawing I'm doing, and what I wabt to achieve. To me, their the solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

Why do people believe that they can buy a graphite pencil that will be just as black as charcoal when graphite is grey,🤔 The only way they are going to get black is a mix media built into a pencil but they always put a wax or oil with it for it too combine better and apply a smother movement onto paper and majority would be charcoal , But then they are not happy with the smudge test or eraser test, There are many other products in liquid that they place in pens that will give them the dark black look They need to use mix media products as well as graphite pencils christphore lovell shows great examples of his work using mix media pens and graphite pencils,

They were sharpened with differently angled points. The finer points worked the lead in to the fibres. The wider point ended up flatter to the paper surface. More smeary. Imho.

Very good comparative. There is a Chinese manufacturer that produces one of the best and darkest charcoal pencils I have ever tried. They produce, graphite pencils, charcoal pencils etc ... The pencils I refer to are darker until the Conté a Paris Pierre Noite 3B. Thanks for The vídeo. GOOD NIGHT! 🇧🇷

I prefer these to graphite. AWESOME. Have a large supply. They arent too hard to erase. They dont have a distracting sheen like graphite. I would recommend getting staedtler black lumograph to complement these. They are a bit darker and even more matte

Well, that's really what he was saying. I personally believe that graphite is the best sketching/drawing medium out there, but I like charcoal, as well. I just wouldn't mix these pencils with a graphite drawing. They can do nothing that I can't do better with graphite. My biggest problem with these pencils is that even with nothing but graphite in a drawing, I can still do better, and get a wider range, without the need to use something with oply in it. There are so many options that these pencils just get in the way, rather than being helpful. I also think the sheen graphite has is a giant red herring. Many, many, many of the best drawings in existence are done with graphite, and the sheen does nothing to take away from the beauty of the drawings. Sheen is all about angle, and I don't know anyone who views a drawing at an angle where the sheen is even noticeable. Sheen is just a part of graphite, but it is also often mistakes by the artist that causes excessive sheen. All that said, while I still do graphite sketches and drawings on a regular basis, I do almost all of them in the field, and don't even try for hyperrealism. These sketches and drawings are just a base for my current love. At some point, my love switched from graphite hyperrealism to colored pencil photorealism, which means using color. A scant handful of artists out there are so unbelievably talented and skilled with colored pencils that they nearly accomplish the impossible. I'm too old to ever get that good, but I find the challenge irresistible. For me, these artists have made the best graphite drawings look pale, and anything but realistic. So I want to go as far as I can in that direction with whatever time I have left. I just don't like calling graphite or charcoal drawings "photorealism". Yes, it can be when drawing something that only has tones these things can reproduce, but that's pretty darned rare. Real life is all in living color, and that's how I want to show it. So I use "hyperrealism" for such things as graphite, and "photorealism" for color that can make a drawing look like a great photo.

i love your review and your humor 👍😂 i think the nero are a good choice if someone does not like the scratchyness of charocol pencils (like i do and my drawings always get messy with characol pencils) i often use them in eyes because you can be very exact with them (i can not do that with charocol). thnk you for your review 🙏 edit: do you have any advice how to get good details with conte paris noire for example? its always a mess for me...

Have you tried the Derwent Drawing Ivory Black coloured pencil?
@RixCanDoit
@RixCanDoit 3 года назад
No. But if it is a 'color' pencil, like other color pencils, only black, it won't be dark enough. I've tried black 'color' pencils before and they all fall very short of ideal. Thanks for commenting. :)
