@@FelixImmler Though I totally agree with Ronald, I am a regular not so sophisticated or professional "Joe" at sharpening :-b haha, something more simple please to get a good enough sharper result with the yellow stone bundled with the kits in Swiss champ (for example, or a cheaper sharpening stone) "?". Thank you very much in advance.

I think that some kudos should go out to the sharpener also. That level of precision should be helpful to most everyone to be able to sharpen almost any knife blade to extreme sharpness. Your Victorinox is probably the sharpest I've seen, good job Felix.

Would you prefer victorinox to use a harder steel for the main blade on the popular models, if so what steel would it be ?

I was told it was easier to cut a grey hair this way but still needs alot of skill and the right blade

Impressive stuff Felix - i use my blade probably 3, 4 or 5 times a week and i sharpen it with a basic sweep and its good enough 90% of the time I'd blunt that right away, so a razor finish isn't necessary - but you're efforts to prove a point are mighty impressive

Good job. I am obsessed with razor sharp knives. All my knives are raroz sharp, including my swiss army knife. I use only sand papers from 400 to 1500 degree of graduation. Only first phase of sharpening, I do on 400 paper on the hard base below the sand paper until forming ''wire''. All folowing phases of sharpening I do gradually to 1500 degree sand paper on the soft base below the sand paper. Then I use leather strap with polish paste like old barbers and finish sharpening on dry leather strap. The result is mirror polished, frightfully sharp blade. It is cheap and relatively long lasting proces, but I am very proud of it.

Several years ago there was a guy on RU-vid that got his knife so sharp by hand that he could cut wet toilet paper and a hair like you demonstrated. Your point about the size of the granules in the steel is spot on. I tried dozens of knives, dozens and dozens of failed attempts. Then, one day I had success! Long story short, I found four different knives that worked. I showed it to my adult son so people would not think I was crazy. Of coarse I was probably crazy for trying it in the first place. :-) All my work was done by hand with various grade wet stones to a wet ceramic flat stone and strop with green compound. No machines. I was never able to cut a hair. - sad I tried the same experiment about 1 1/2 years ago with the exact knives and failed! Maybe my beat up hands have lost the dexterity? Maybe the TP was different? I have very sharp knives. They are NOT hair splitting sharp. That is a whole different level! I have never seen a SAK that sharp. Well done! Because of this video I thought for a second, I should give it a try again? Nope! I just stropped a few knives like I do everyday and got it out of my system! Again, well done. Thank you for posting!

I was able to grind down the small blade on my Swiss Champ into a whittling blade as demonstrated in your other video and sharpen it to approximately 17 degrees on each side and get it close to the sharpness you reached. Your videos furthered my appreciation for Victorinox knives and are why I decide to carry the Swiss Champ with me everywhere over the Leatherman Wave. Cheers!

Would be interesting to see how long will the knife retain such sharp edge. For example, would it still be able to cut hair after slicing some wood few times or would that be enough to already deteriorate the edge.

Cool video! That edge under the microscope was beautiful. Thanks for the eraser tip for cleaning stones, I will definitely give it a try. I've always enjoyed sharpening a Victorinox as they can be given a great edge quickly and with simple tools. Often on woodworking blades I use Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish on a piece of thin cardboard that cereal boxes and other food items are packaged in. It gives a wonderful polished scratch free edge. I also use the old woodworkers method stropping the edge across the palm of the hand to maintain an edge or hone the edge. It is leather after all.

That is seriously sharp! Thank you for the awesome content you put out. The secret is the stropping. My latest Spartan showed a BESS-score of 165 out of the box. After 5min of stropping I got it down to 85 and it was hair splitting sharp. The chisel grind on some knives are even easier because of the more acute sharpening angle. Stropped a brand new Skipper for a few minutes while watching this video, tested the knife and got the score 75. I usually maintain the blades just by stropping and if sharpening is needed I use Spyderco ceramic rods, freehand. They are super hard/fine grit and the set has 4 different shaped rods so you can do the serrations, too.
