Its not a bad game its all about exploring (only 1 enemy npc type), building and fighting with others there is no quest system no levels etc, you gain knowledge from exploring the islands and this knowledge lets you build better ships thats the progression system the fun is in the building ships with friends and trying to get through the natural hazards that separate the zones.

One reason was that the devs put out trailers like that who didn't show the reality of the gameplay. Here it looks like a cute little exploration game, while in reality it was harder and more brutal than Rust! Many people played up to the point where they got raided the first time, lost ALL of their stuff and the ship... I LOVED this game - but the "false" advertisement was one of the pillars of its downfall.

I think we definitely want to find some ways to cut out experienced players from bullying new players. We've got a few plans which we're working on. It's not as simple as just turning off bullet and cannon damage in low tier areas because it's a fully physical world and none of that would stop players from dropping stuff on each other or crashing their ship into yours etc. You touched on one of the potential solutions we're trying out in your comment, "not much else to do" right? So how do we focus the late game and give high tier players something to do? We think the alliance and territory control systems we're implementing will go at least some of the way towards improving this. It's by no means the only thing we're trying though!

You really, really do. I came back after a few months off - built a sail raft on first island, got attacked the moment I lifted off, ship destroyed by a four engined two-manned ship. Spawned, built another raft, got ganked again by a ship I couldn't outrun and couldn't fight. Third ship - actually managed to unlock engines through knowledge - fitted engines and some cretin chased me for 20 mins solid, determined to take me down. I'm about ready to give up. I don't mind pvp if it's a fair fight, or something close - but the ganking and griefing is turning new players off in droves. I have three Steam friends who've all tried it, and all three stopped due to this one issue. We all love the exploration, but when you don't get chance to explore, and you can't leave your ship unattended for 2 mins while you try and explore - then you can't get knowledge and can't improve your ship/survivability.

Nynjasquirrel yeah this is a terrible experience for players, definitely not what we want! Sorry you and your friends went through that!

i'm worried about this "territory control" thing, because then whole areas will be locked down and can become no-fly-zones for anything the size of a grape, because there are about a dozen players waiting in AA emplacements to camp out a temple or something whilst looting everything that's inside. And even if you get through, there's probably nothing left but a few empty chests and a large pile of dead bugs that were just there. Or at least that's from my experience of playing the game and what i've experienced when people start getting the power to control things and don't think about the concequences of actions they undertake, which will leave people either really salty and doing something else because it's more rewarding than getting killed by someone for the 7th time, or people just leaving the game because there isn't enough fodder for them to easily shoot out of the sky. Another situation could be that there will be an all-out-war between several factions, which can be extremly fun in and of itself i admit, but i also want to discover the history and lore of the islands (and think of theories and reasons why certain things are the way they are) which is horrendously diffucult when everyone is for the destruction of knowledgefor the sake of "shooty-shooty bang-bang reading is for nerds" (of course i say "everyone", even though i believe there are enough people who would like to listen my discoveries or start making some of their own). I do like the game for the exploring and discovering part, but the fact that people have guns and the fact that last time i logged in, a beetle genocide had taken place on the island, leaves me worried about what will happen when i just land somewhere to take a look at some ruines, just to be killed by the XxX-N00BSLAY3R-XxX killcorporation in a "first fire, then ask" kinda manner. anyway, think i've gone and rambled for long enough. spitfire flyer territory is established using structures in mid-air, so as a system it won't encourage players to set up shop on islands. The hope is that it focuses PvP away from random players, and the systems we have planned for trading should diversify player roles and give traders some protection from being looted. We want to support all kinds of players, and I'm glad you enjoy exploring and discovering lore, that's my favourite part too. We've got some plans for a "loot budget" which should mean that treasure that is found less often will contain better stuff, so there's a least some additional reward in getting to harder to reach chests. I'm currently trying to think of ways to get more players interested in the lore, and I think safety good be a part of that. Keeping a window open while you ready leaves you open to attack right?

MikeCore if they claim it permanently all the islands will be claimed making it hard to land anywhere without encountering players who may not like you bothering them EDIT: also eventually there won’t be enough space for more island claims

could make it so after a while of inactivity the island is free for the taking again.

Krystof Perkey exactly although they’re adding a feature where alliances can take over islands and if they claim all islands in a sector they can claim the sector, sounds interesting and would be nice for raiding/wars to claim sectors

With how large Worlds Adrift is and the fact that there are no loading screens means water will most likely never enter the game. Allow me to explain, most developers create water in a way so that it interacts with the land around it, going around a sharp curve, falling, and splashing off of sharp surfaces. This is very taxing to a game due to the high amount of things interacting with each other, normally this won't be a problem due to the fact the water would unload when the player left the area and reload when the player returns, normally done with a loading screen. However, World's Adrift does not have loading screens and to load and unload water physics would be very taxing on the servers and would cause serious lag and possible crashes. Water will most likely never be implemented unless the devs can find a workaround for this problem.

its because of people like you not buying the game is what caused it to shut down. they didnt get enough funding from players and it cost bossa x3 as much as they actually got.
