The Longaberger Basket Building, Newark OH.
The now defunct and abandoned office of The Longaberger Company.
Longaberger vacated the building after running up over $1,000,000 in unpaid back property tax.
Longaberger operation is estimated to be at 5% of the revenue brought in just 10 years ago.
Will the Death of the founder and a recession mean the end for this local namesake?
What becomes of the building now is anybodies guess. Not even the city of newark has any clue what to do. What can you do with a 7 Story Basket?

The county should think creatively- turn it into a library or something. The infrastructure is there & that’s the expensive part (water lines, gas lines etc). Community Center on the top floors, library & career center on the bottom.

I have one of those worthless bread baskets. I was pressured by a woman in my church to buy it at a basket party in the early 90’s. It was an MLM from what I understand

According to Wikipedia the company is back in business as of 2019. They have a website that's current looking and they sell on qvc.

Everyone wants to blame Dave Longaberger girls but the way I see it ... the economy at the time and baskets just ran their course. I’ll never forget the place, had some good times there with my sisters, mother and aunt. We supported the company and Dave and the history behind it. There is a season to everything. 😘

I know the basket building was Dave's dream, but it was a dumb idea. That mansion that Tami built was ridiculous, too. Add to that crappy merchandise that had nothing to do with baskets like jewelry. Stuff made in China. Too many colors and designs. You can't charge high prices for stuff like that. They should have left it like they started--making a few quality baskets worthy of being handed down. If they kept it a small, family owned, USA made company, they might still be in business.

It's not worthless, either. I suspect that this building might lend itself to apartments or condos rather nicely. Certainly would be a great way to direct people to your home - 'Just look for the basket'.
