“Islanders need to clear the cap space, so they have the money for when Tavares doesn’t resign with them” I’ve never openly laughed at a RU-vid video before, but that changed today 😂
hiphopaDIZZL I agree with you that his performance has been abysmal the past couple of seasons (playoffs aside), but to put it bluntly, his hands are fucked up. He's broken and rebroken several bones in his hands the last couple of seasons, and this is a guy who is known for his great hands, so naturally his play is going to decline until he has a solid stretch to recover. (Like in the playoffs last year his hands had healed pretty well, but then this season he broke another bone again).
Frank Carrozza, NO! The gap between Phaneuf’s salary and what he should be payed is bigger than what he should be payed. In short: He’s payed 7M and should be payed 3M. That’s 4M too much. Ergo Ryan is not that bad (compared to Dion)
I do disagree on Lehtonen somewhat. He may be the worst contract maybe on Dallas but he isn't bad either. he is 5-4-1 with a .913 save % and 2.44 GAA. This to me is on par with most backup goalies and is respectable. He is average but he isn't what I would call a bad backup goalie. He is a decent backup, but not a good starter. He is perfect in the role he is playing right now. And today he just got his 300th win against the Islanders so good for him! I know this video is 11 days old and he has probably shown some good stats since, like he did today.
jett lax k. I’ll give him 7 mill without even looking at his stats. I could tell his a 50 goal scorer this season. Let’s sign him for 6 years Patrick Stephan welcome abroad
@@mikecortivo8949 Players like Kopitar, Kesler, Bergeron, etc. aren't getting paid huge dollars to put up a ton of points. There is more to hockey than getting points.
Nakamura Hiroshima Honda Civic Miyamoto OwO wym kopitar is on a 8 year contract worth 80million and had 92 points last year pls the top players in the league who get a lot of points are on high level contracts
@@mikecortivo8949 That's also the only time in his career that he was over a point per game. He's obviously great offensively, but there are players who make less money than him and put up more points. What sets him apart from them though is that he's consistently one of the best defensive forwards in the league.
Kari Lehtonen one of the worst backups in the league? Like what? Hell nah. Tbh hes at least t10 backup. Even can make an argument that hes t6 mayby. Yes hes expensive but one of the worst in the league, just no.
aC 17 Ya, this guy talks alot of shit... You can tell when he pronounces some of the players names... Lol Emelins a pretty decent, hard hitting dman... Il take him any day at just over 4 mil compared to a guy like Phanuef at 7 mil....
Alex Stenberg He makes a hair under 4.8 mil, and they lucked into Kucherov playing really good on that contract. But if he had had this type of production before he signed his deal... cha ching!!
"Washington doesn't have bad contracts" yeah right. That Kuzy deal and even the Orlov one is scary. Orpik's is obviously horrible, but after that there are more questionable ones. Good video though
Kuznetsov is the future and a player you can build around. I watch every Caps game and the guy has unreal skill, Im talking nearlt Datsyuk stick handling with some of the most graceful skating, gliding. He is a natural puck handler, breakout guy, playmaker, and he has a good shot. The only thing we have not seen from him is the killer instinct, the finishing touch, he still has trouble completing his plays with goals, therefore his production suffers from this. He is still very young, maybe in time he will learn how to finish more consistently. But he is well worth the investment, imo, and a franchise player if he capitalizes on his skillset. Not all franchise players need be Canadien.
Dr. Drew yea I completely disagree with him on this one it isn't like they are paying 5 mil a year plus he is there as an enforcer and Toronto needs an enforcer
Eveyone thet gets hockey knows that without martins services the kids in toronto are open to what ever crap fron dirty players all over the league. This video is BS. Even the money for Marleau is well spent looking after and getting the young players to develop ok.
Lasse Kongo looks like that taking martin out of the line up has done exactly what you said. And now matthews is injured because of it! dumb move scratching him. I knew it was coming.
Matt Martin is gone but Lou brought him in and then brought him to the Isles. Nice guy and a local Windsor boy who my wife met once. One of her coworkers went to high school with Matt and last year came down with Uncle Leo to hang out with his buddies.
ezwelchman I can see it both ways. Like I agree, he's not great at hockey 😂 but Ur paying him for his leadership. Do they resign him, hopefully no😂 but is the contract terrible rn, not really
SuperNova GD. I’m from Buffalo and watched A lot of Myers Career. Compared to his Rookie season he is nowhere near the player he was but I agree. Even top 4 Defenseman get reasonably big contracts. I didn’t mind his raise at all.
Marcus Kruger is worth the money. I'm from Chicago and id take his cap hit any day of the week. What he did and was still doing for our penalty kill, face-offs, as well as making each line mate look better. I haven't followed him since the trade, but having him back on the hawks couldn't make things worse then they currently are
Brandon Beck as someone from Chicago , my second team is Carolina because of all the hawks there, and you’re right. Rask is so bad, has like 8 points this season
As for the Jets and Myers, A. Winnipeg didn't sign that deal and Buffalo did. B. Buffalo paid out the majority of the actual cash value of the deal before trading him to Winnipeg (Winnipeg only pays out $3.454 mil/year)
Lucic is the Oilers best fighter/tough guy so he's worth all of that! He wasn't brought here to replace Gretzky...lol But you may be right about how well he ages during his contract as he is a hard hitting player physical player. However, points and tough play/intimidation equal the best tough guy you could hope for and if the Oilers had more depth, Lucic would be playing on McDavids line and killing it! Plus the Oilers would be doing better :)
I don't think Matheson's contract is bad... I think he's really underrated. Great skater. Kulemin's contract is coming to an end, but Andrew Ladd still has his for a long time... I think that's going to be much more of a problem for the Islanders. It's pretty impressive to see how well some teams have managed their cap though... Nashville and Tampa have done really well.
TheGannonCannon 913 From a Montreal fan, I was disappointed we lost him, he'll never be the best D man in the world, but he's a team player, can put great hits on guys, for me defo 2nd D Pairing, really liked the guy.
Jack Johnson is actually a really good d-man. I think the fact that he plays in a small market and doesn’t put up a ton of points skews your view of him. He’s solid and would be a top 4 on any team except Nashville maybe.
Minnesota fan here. You might be right about Ennis. However, he was acquired by trading away Pominville who would've been the pick if still in the team, and Ennis is cheaper. If you wanna be honest, though, Parise's contact is the worst since he hasn't even played in a game yet this season.
The thing about Jack Johnson of CBJ is that he isn't that bad of a defense man. I do agree that his contract is probly the biggest but we did just sign Cam Atkinson for about the same but Cam is very much on his game.
Paul Courcelles So? Every player on this list is loved by their team even though they have a bad contract. Matt Martin for example is loved by teammates but has an awful contract
How on earth you think Killorn’s contract is worse than Callahan’s. I’m a bolts fan and i think Killorn’s contract is little bit too much but he is a big piece of the team.
This guy has obviously no NHL knowledge worth listening to: Blackhawks didn't get red of Kruger because they wanted to. They got rid of him because they had to. Kruger has been one of the Chicagos most valuable players in their playoff runs, and is probably one of, if not the best penalty killer and shutdown center in the league. I gladly take him for 3 mil on my Washington Capitals over Jay Beagle or Lars Eller every day of the week. Also, though I agree Jack Johnson is sligthly overpaid, he's a good enough top 4 defenceman in the league and very good at skating the puck out of the defensive zone. Points is not everything in hockey, especially not for a defenseman. Brandon Dubinskys 5.85m cap hit is clearly a way worse contract for a 3rd liner than 4.25 is for a top 4 defenceman. Also, Myers is definetly living up to his caphit this year. He's the top defender on of the best teams in the league, outplaying both Bufyglien and Trouba. I would swop Jack Johnson with Brandon Dubinsky (5.85 through 2021), Marcus Kruger with Jordan Staal (6m through 2023) and Tyler Myers with Tobias Enström (5.75 through 2018) or Dmitry Kulikov (4.33 through 2020)
This video seems scattered with unfair and even biased assessments at times. Zajac has been injured and though he has picked up his play in the past week, many Devils fans feel that he is playing injured, since he came back from his injury much earlier than expected. Kulemin was signed alongside Grabovski to the Islanders with the hopes that they would score a lot together again like when Kulemin scored 30 goals for Toronto before the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl plane crash, even without Clarke MacArthur. Yeah, despite his skill and nice hands resulting in the obvious need for him to shoot more and perhaps move up a line or two, his current price is a bit steep for the points he has been putting up, his first year with the Islanders was the best one so far, with 31 points, but his penalty killing / defense mattered all the time and it showed since he has been injured early in the 2017 - 2018 season. Who are you to suggest that Tavares will not resign with the Islanders? The season is still young and there are developments to be made as soon as January, such as Belmont Park or whatever alternative arena deal may need to be made (Bruce Ratner really dug a hole for himself in cutting up the Barclays Center to get tax breaks for billionaires that poorer taxpayers will need to pay for and get nothing out of, but it is still much better than sticky floors MSG).
Pittsburgh's worst contract now is Kris Letang. 31 years old, $7M Cap hit, no movement clause, just awful. His value absolutely plummeted after the 2018 playoffs. While Alzner is terrible, Carey Price's contract is worse. After the seaosn he had, he is nowhere near $10.5M a year over 8 years. Especially considering fellow goalies Jonathan Quick and Braden Holtby have been better and they are getting paid only half of what Price gets.
viewernewest he has to continue his style even though it puts him at risk of injuries, because he is most productive when he is getting to the front of the met and grinding
As a canucks fan I think Brandon Sutter has the worst contract on the team. His deep analytics are among the worst in the league. He was on pace for a 20 point season before getting injured. 4.4 mil until 2021. Help.
man you really know your hockey....emelin is viewed as the worst nhl defensemen, so naturally montreal offered him a 4 year 4 million ddeal.....ah i just died
General Rock Im a Habs fan... I agree with Webber being the worst contract... I thought that as soon as the deal went down. I think they should find a trade partner for him right now while he still has value... Can you imagine paying almost 9 mil to a 40 year old?? Lol And they would bring Markov back at 39 for 5.5 mil....
myers deal is 100% not the jets worst contract. enstrom and buffs are definitely worse. plus myers has been solid this year, although i wouldnt expect anyone to notice anyone on the jets so its easiest to look at numbers smh
Errorsson, the worst contract on the Wings? Nooooooo. All he does is turn the puck over and I swear the puck's gone off him into the wings net more times this season than he's put in the right goal in his entire career
I would take seabrooks contract all day. So underrated defensively, brings us grit on the blue line, has a cannon from the point, always has 150+ shot blocks. If we traded for oduya and kept hjalmarsson we could have had the best defense in the West.
Some of these contracts were bad at the time they signed them (MacDonald and Phaneuf for example), but others you can't say they are bad if the player performed well and to their price for half of it? some of these good players wouldn't sign for short term deals, someone would always offer LT.
Who on the hell said Emelin is "considered one I of the worst defensemen in the league "?He's physical as he'll and hits like freight train. One of the problems in Montreal now is they only have finesse defensemen. Subban and Emelin and Josh Georges kept the front of the net clear. They've got nobody like that now.
I disagree with Martin. I wouldn't pay him any more than his 2.5 Million. But you know what you're getting with him. A fourth liner enforcer. If the leafs weren't willing to pay the 2.5, someone else definitely would. Especially since Martin won't be eating up valuable ice time for young talent.
The worst contract in Montreal is Carey Price, mainly bc of his contract length and salary compared to his age. They are gonna have to carry that contract for the next 8+ years and he isn’t going to get any better
