Out of curiosity, why not spray it once with glyphosate then hop on your Ventrac and remove all vegetative top layer in one shot? In the process regrading to address the pooling issues. Retop with some added compost/topsoil material as needed. Effectively starting over. Then seed. Is the issue with Bermuda too high a risk in mechanical removal leaving any rhyzome behind unless you push it with N first?

@6:34 I got excited about Tribute Total and its ability to nuke everything but Bermuda. Then I saw it was $350+ per 6 ounces. Is there anything you can recommend for homeowners? My main issues are with dallisgrass.

I'm watching this two days later. As I have a Bermuda backyard that was ruined by backyard hens, your property looks EXACTLY like mine. Weeds and random flowers popping up (wild bird seed that's fallen in the grass), dips and "ponds" where the rain has pooled before we had the back of the house gutters installed.... our backyard is an embarrassment. WORD TO THE WISE: know what you're sacrificing if you're a suburbanite and you get backyard hens. You lose out on your flower beds for fresh eggs.

So glad your channel was recommended this morning, I’ve been in and out of lawn care (mowing, landscaping as well as weed control/fertilization, etc) and you’ve got such a better way of teaching people the mathematics of it all and making it almost dummy proof to do. MUCH better of a teacher than my previous bosses!

I whole heatedly second this. I'm in NE GA and seeded the back half/side of yard with Riviera while sodding the most visible area with 419. I honestly like the Riviera better, color, growth, blade and all. HOC@0.5"

Since you're doing Bermuda, I think it'd be pretty easy to just seed it, way more cost effective too. I vote for Bimini Bermuda, it has a super-fine blade on it.

In all honesty it would be super cool to see you take that common bermuda that is already there and make that take off and dominate that yard. Lots of people have common bermuda and some even are starting off with a yard such as this. Just think it would be cool to start exactly right there and work with what you have...anyone can rip up the ground and re-sod.

I thought you said in an earlier video were going to have Kentucky bluegrass and Bermuda lawn mix... I'm going to try that this fall with my Bermuda lawn then seem like they may play well together in the lawn keep it green year round.

Would like to see you with the soil cultivator attachment and then roll it super smooth...seed with princess 77 and then reel mow... seeding will give people a chance to see how aggressive Bermuda is and how fast it fills in...plus much less expensive than sod!

Hell yeah!! Been waiting on this series. Bring on the Bermuda Pete!! Looking forward to the lessons on this one. My yard is reel mowed Bermuda, and I have wanted to try the winter overseeding to have a green yard year round. My fear has always been getting rid of the rye in spring!! Game on! Id rather see you do the seeding instead of sod. Somewhat selfish because I know I can lay sod....but I really want to see how to switch Bermuda types through seeding.

Hey Pete just wondering instead of smoking that yard with carbon x why not use a tractor or a sod cutter to scoop out the yard so its bare dirt? Then use carbon x over that to kill any leftovers.

I promise, my yard is much, much worse ☹️. My son loves riding his atv in our backyard, but now after many years of him riding around the yard we literally have no grass and just mud, ruts, rocks, etc... I’m really not sure how we’re going to fix it. I’ve made a homemade drag that we pull behind the atv and it’s helping smooth out the ruts some, but it’s really not fixing the problem. At the end of the day I just focus on the fact that my son is having fun and it’s just a yard and eventually we’ll get it back to being a nice smooth green lawn again.

Can you do part of the renovation without the ventrac to show us common folk how to do it with maybe a basic walk behind rototiller or common tool rental equipment to loosen the dirt and level it out. Thanks bro

Do both. Plant seeds and lay turf. Many new build homes come that way so it would be very educational.

Sod it with Tahoma 31, which is a new bermuda that's showing a lot of promise for colder weather climates like where you live. It's a new cultivar that's available this year. Check it out!

MOST EXCELLENT VIDEO PETE! I would love to see the proposed area seeded. Sod is easy... green side up! I'm fixing to re-do a small lawn area in my new house. I will be seeding with a blend of Blackjack, Maya and Yukon bermudagrass. The initial prep is crucial to the outcome of the final product. My soil is not great... heavy red clay and rocks. Hope all of this work I've been putting in will suffice.

Pete I don't think you should go with rye. You're going to be killing off the rye every year. You're a busy guy. Also...alot of very high end sports fields are moving away from rye to blue grass. I suggest you go with a blumuda yard . Yukon Bermuda and barenburg turf blue hgt. (Or barvette if you don't want the blue grass blend) I think you'll enjoy balancing the two grasses more than killing off and over seeding.

In Kentucky, bermuda grass is considered a noxious weed. I do not like bermuda grass! It grows everywhere, and once it sets in, you can't get rid of it.

Everyone saying either seed or sod. I’m saying seed half and sod the other half. Then you can really put your skills to the test and see if you can dominate the sod with your seeded half.

Hey Pete, I didn't realize I could take I-85N straight to your shop. That's almost a straight shot for me! Hahahaha I would seed the Bermuda. I think it will be more interesting. As far as type, I've had no experience with it except for that godawful wild Bermuda you are killing off. You'll pick the right one though. Can't wait to see this transformation but you better get that Ventrac out there and level out those giant holes first. LOL

My vote is for seed. I seeded my Bermuda front yard last year and I am very happy with the results. I love the way it looks cut with a reel mower. Will you be taking the ventrac to that property to get it good and smooth? That would make a good video! (I love those ventrac videos)

I would like to see you go from seed, going into the late spring / early summer it's a perfect time for it. Sod seems like the fast and easy way out, show us your landscaping chops anybody can lay sod.

Sprig it please - I’ve been wanting to see/learn this for years. Few people can afford to sod a yard - esp with an athletic quality turf...and anyway, aren’t a lot of them hybrids, thus you can’t seed the best cultivars?

Sod with tifway 419 Bermuda. It's much darker green than most other varieties.

Sod or sprigTahoma and overseed with Bluebank Kentucky bluegrass.

Monaco Bermuda Seed if you go that route. It’s more cold tolerant than most. It’s the improved variety of Riviera. But I’d go with sod no doubt. TifTuf is more drought resistant, but not quite as dark of a green as the Tifway 419 and some others. Vegetative Bermuda is on a different level compared to seeded.

Neither You should SPRIG tifftuff Bermuda. Kinda like seeding kinda like sodding. And you can use Ronstar at sprigging for weed pressure. If you must seed then Riviera Bermuda is no longer available. Only choice to Seed is Monaco Bermuda. Yukon Bermuda is way to sensitive to a lot of herbicides like quinclorac ( I personally know). Princess 77 spring dead spot is horrific!!

Seed. Sod is for the impatient and for pikers who can’t grow sod quality from seed. Might take a couple years to get it perfect but would make for good instructional videos.

Hey Pete, I would like to see you successfully seed P77. It’s cheapest from Hancock Seed. I would also like to see you do a Monostand of the Hybrid Bluegrass SPF-30. There is very little documentation of this stuff. I ordered 200 lbs of this to get my shaded areas taken care of.

Start it from seed. Sod is the easy way out and with the seed it is much more satisfying when it’s matured.

Seeded with something Green Resource sells. I have a chance to get the Boger City Optimist Park which is three softball fields. They are not happy with their current maintenance provider. They only mow and not very often. I want to put in something that will knock their eyeballs open. I only know what NCSU Turffiles shows to do and have zero experience with Bermudagrass. I've been watching GCI Turf Services for about three years and have the TTTF down. Especially after last years weather. Bring it on Pete! I need your help... Again. Thanks.

Monaco Bermuda Johnston Seed Company, just released, but seen one of the test plots last year, we were hired to scalp the test plot, one of the thickest sections of Bermuda I’ve ever cut.

I'd sod it with either Tifgrand or Tiftuf. I don't know that the seeded varieties will ever look as good as the sod varieties. I would stay away from tifway 419.

Riviera or Monaco seed!!!! I don't think you'll be able to find Riviera seed though, I heard they had a bad seed crop last year. I have Riviera in the back yard and TTTF in the front. The Rivera started greening up the first part of March this year in East Tennessee, its a great looking turf! My CarbonX is do for delivery tomorrow, Thanks Pete! God Bless You!

The traffic going past your premises is probably just as busy during the week as it is on the Saturday. You just never noticed before because your in and out of your workplace early and working hard for most of the day.

If you SEED it then you will make me want to "push and smoke" the bermuda that I just began to nurse to health in an otherwise neglected side yard. 15+ years of no love and I am already happy with the stuff the construction crew threw down after major road and storm sewer replacement work.
