We have had T Mobile Home Internet for about 1 year. Love it. Dumped our old Internet/Cable provider (Huge rip off due to no competition) and went with RU-vid TV. So far, an excellent combo. We are saving over $50.00 per month compared to our previous rip off provider.
I am having a similar experience with Optimum. We like our Cable TV but Optimum is the only game in town so when I hooked up my T-Mobile gateway and found it to be far far faster, I thought cancel the internet portion of my cable. Well after much talk with customer service in my attempt to do so I’m ending up keeping both because they offered me steep discounts to keep cable and wired internet. They quoted the price for cable alone would be more that keeping both. So, I’m trying to get the best out of both worlds. I plugged my Amazon Fire Cube directly into the wired modem which, in theory will take some bandwidth pressure off the T-Mobile. Bottom line though is that T-Mobile is the fastest I’ve ever had and I believe that wireless is the future. We’ve had RU-vid TV and Hulu which are great but actually a little more than our new, negotiated, cable price. Good luck!!!
This has been a life-saving solution for me, a gamer who lives in a remote area with no cable options available. I also work from home and my satellite ($100/mo) is completely unreliable. I am only running my pc on it, but so far it has been 100% worth it!
wait how did you get good latency with this? I am hard wired with an ethernet cable on my pc and xbox and I get terrible ping. Like around 90ms and would spike higher frequently.
@@austincronkright779 Naw not at all. Terrible connectivity and consistency. So far, I found a solution for xbox where I went into the network settings and turned on QoS DSCP tagging and that legit fixed playing with super high ping like 3 digit ms. On For Honor I get 30-40ping but on R6 I get like 70-80 but what Ive seen is less jitter/spikes. Weird man. Cellular internet is for minimalist that just watch streams n shit. Im legit going back to "wired" or fiber internet. tmobile scammed this cell internet
I live in a small Texas town of 1500 people, our choices of internet are very limited. I previous had windstream and was on the very best plan and that was 25 down and 6 up, and was paying about 120.00 a month as they required a phone as well even if you didnt use the phone. After that I had a local strtup company that offered 50 down and 25 up for 50.00 a month, and I was with them for about a year, now I have had the T Mobile for about 18 months, I have the original white round modem, and I am paying 30.00 as I have the phone service as well, I get anywhere from 200-300 down and 50-100 up, I work from home and I am on the computer 8-12 hours a day, and I have had zero issues with it. I would for sure recommend based on my experience.
I did a trial - keeping my Spectrum account just in case. I'm doing everything wrong and it works great! I picked up the device you used and located it in my basement in the center of my home - this is where my cable modem connected to my wifi router. I connected one of the ethernet ports on the back of the T-Mobile router to my router and have had no issues for a month now. According to the display, I have a "Good" connection. My speed is not supper fast - clocks around 150Mbs - but everything is working great. That includes a smart house with wifi connected thermostat, lights and plugs throughout my house. I've even switched to voice over IP phone with Ooma and it's working great. Just canceled Spectrum today - looking forward to saving about $55 a month!
How are your upload speeds? The guy in this video is showing around 50-57. I too have Spectrum which I really hate because I never get consistent speed and constant bottlenecking and the prices keep going up and seems my speed keeps going down considering I'm paying for 300 megabytes and generally I'm getting way less than that according to their own testing online
I got the same deal as you: $25 for speeds up to 300+ makes you swallow the accidental glitches or the occasional higher than normal latency. Most importantly, the appearance of TMobile home internet forced the local monopoly to lower their prices and up the speeds. So now we have two good options. Thanks for the great video!
Do you have any link that shows the price as $25? I think this is not accurate anymore. Tmobile got greedy I guess and now it is the same price as my wire internet. DEAD ON ARRIVAL!
@@EpicEternal2 we were paying $80 to spectrum internet for the basic connection. t mobile internet IS $30 per month, if you are a wireless customer. so im paying almost 1/3. im getting 175-200 MBPS so im actually quite happy. it's as fast as my cable internet was.
@@EpicEternal2 It depends on which cell phone plan you have, if you have the el-cheapo plan it's $40 a month, if you have one of the better plans the internet is $25 a month. If you really are getting wired internet for $40 a month including taxes than I would keep that because that is an awesome price.
I began with 4G and upgraded a while back to 5G. We have had limited options for internet service for years for an old wine country house. I recently added a switch to backhaul 5 Google Wifi pucks on this system, trying to cover 7.500 square feet of living space. It has been such a great system with minimal issues, maintaining 200-300 mbps and allowing everyone to stream to their hearts content on tons of devices. I agree, perfect for home use for most, especially when there are limited options for internet available. Now I have to figure out how to add a TP-Link CPE PTP to a secondary router to add a separate network for the other house without screwing things up! 😬
Can you answer a few questions? -is their peak use hours where speeds vary? -have you experienced significant outages? -how many gigs or TB do you use each month? -do you have to position close to a window or is it central in your home?
@@YouVSMeTV Speed with T-Mobile Home Internet is atrocious during peak hours. I was getting 5 Mbps or less during peak hours. That is worse than even DSL.
Saw this video this morning and went out and got one. As I was already a T-Mobile customer, it’s only going to cost me $40 a month not 55. Didn’t get the $25 a month that was indicated in the video. I am in the Los Angeles area, and this thing is fantastic. I’m getting 400 Mb per second download speed and close to 100 Mb per second upload speed as compared to my spectrum Internet, which was 300 down and 10 up. Also, my spectrum Internet had kept getting more expensive, the most recent price increase was up to $84 a month for Internet only. really looking forward to telling spectrum what they can do with their service!
Would you say it's worth it if I plan to use it for Steam Deck? Not really to game online atm my priority is to download Steam games I got from sale. Where I am I don't have my own personal wifi yet just data
Had T-Mobile 5G home internet for almost a year. It started out being moderately fast (50-80Mbps), then jumped to over 300Mbps. Over the past summer, that speed slowly degraded to between 20 and 80Mbps with 100mS latency. Unfortunately, it also started dropping out completely multiple times a day, sometimes for hours at a time. Verizon still drops out, but for a fraction of a second to a few seconds with a latency of less than 30mS. Top speeds are about 150Mbps with averages under 100Mbps.
Same here. I tried saving a buck and thought I was doing better switching to Tmobile Home Internet. It was well over 200 mbs all day, 8 devices at a time. Up until a few months ago it's been about as good as dial-up was. And now even worse. Funny thing is my phone has 190mbs and my "home internet" only 5mbs. And they're both Tmobile 5G.
What area of the country are you in? I just started researching T-Mobile internet today (April 24th), and from the reviews I've read, it seems if you are in a bigger metropolitan area and are getting the full 5G|UC coverage, the speeds have been reported as very good for wireless.
Honestly just depends on location I live less that a mile from the T-mobile tower and get 400/600 download and 70-120 upload ping has been around 25 lowest has been 4 ping love it!
I live in rural Idaho and a fast speed was 18 mbps. T-mobile built a tower recently and it's like night and day.Running up to 400 now. So far so good. Also switched to their phone service because only on local carrier was available before.
I'm fortunate to live near a T-mobile 5G tower, and I routinely get 500+ MBS download speeds through this gateway. I do have occasional latency issues, but the higher speeds more than compensate. I find that the T-mobile service is much more reliable than the ATT service it replaced. I also needed to install a wireless mesh system to get full Wi-Fi coverage throughout the house. The mesh system uses an ethernet backhaul to the modem, so I get fast speeds throughout the house. Our only significant problem is with the Hulu live TV service. Hulu wants you to have a static IP address, and anytime the dynamic IP address on the modem changes, it causes problems that require a phone call to tech support. Other than that, I'm very happy with the T-mobile service.
My signal is "Good" at best. Since my original post six months ago, my speed has dropped significantly, to around 100-150 MBS during peak periods. I think I was an early adopter in my area, and my neighbors are now signing on. @@keepit1968
Been using this service for over a year and agree with most of what you said. I'm a trainer by profession and host 8 webinars each week using T-Mobile Home Internet without any issues at all.
I've been using cellular internet for a while and just switched to T-mobile for their pricing. Like you mentioned that hooked me with their phones and I got a great deal on a new phone with them. Overall my bill dropped to a little less than half of what it was. I also got $250 in rebates and a Pixel 7 for $100. Side note though they had to give you a cellular number with the device as it is basically a phone and has to have a phone number associated with it for it to work. I have a number for my T-Mobile phone and another for my T-mobile device. I might also switch out their internet device with a Netgear Nighthawk 5100 I have lying around as it is 5G, a lot smaller, and has a built in battery.
Chris, I love my T-Mobile 5G Home Internet Service. Speeds I get using this 5G service are much better than my previous cable internet. Since I work from home, I haven't experience any issues with teleconferencing calls or work related applications. I have experience a few slow periods but that has been at night. Until I'm able to get fiber, I will be staying with this service.
We got T-mobile to put into my grandmothers house due to the ease and no service people needing to come to the house to install. Been seeing around 400 down and 30-40 up almost all the time. No real hiccups. Been great for $50/month. I would recommend at least trying it. If you are in the right conditions(distance to cell tower, network load in your area, etc.) it could be a good choice for people. They even offer like a 14 day free trial with no cost. Just go to the store or have them ship a modem, try it 14days and if you cant get good results to your cell tower, just return it and it doesn't cost a dime.
I've been using it for 3 months and am mostly satisfied. I typically get around 250Mbps which is nice for the price. Only knock is the software is fairly locked down, no pass through mode.
I have had mine in Northern CA. I have the T Mobile home internet Plus.. it’s faster and more reliable than Xfinity.. so I pay 40 bucks a month. No equipment rental or additional charges.. I now am saving almost 175 buck a month! I LOVE IT!!
My wife and I live in the middle of 7 1/2 acres in northeast Florida. T-Mobile has been a blessing since the cable companies wanted to charge us thousands of dollars to run a cable. It drops out maybe once a month other than that, it’s flawless, absolutely flawless. Download speeds are roughly around 350 to 400 in the upload speeds are roughly around 70 again it was a blessing to receive this a true blessing, especially for the price point!
@@EpicEternal2 i’m a realtor and I have no problems working from home and my wife watches hours upon hours of Netflix and we really truly have no issues. Maybe once a week it disconnects just for a couple seconds and then reconnect but other than that it has been stellar and I would give it five stars and I’ve had Comcast AT&T DIRECTV and now T-Mobile I would almost put T-Mobile up there with a wired connection as far as being up. Cheers!
I loved your opening words… I too was very curious about this device/service and just decided to order it the other day. Wow!!!!! This thing is lightning ⚡️ My speed tests all coming in above 300 with highest at 480!!!
I have a IT degree, and have been using tmobile home internet for almost a year. I have also switched all my phones and business use of internet and phones to tmobile. What can I say? Saving $600/month, getting faster speeds than anywhere else in the entire county, and unless I wanted to host a server this is beyond amazing.
I took my RV to Lake City Florida last year for the winter and the place where I was staying had no cell phone signal for Verizon. I went to T-Mobile and got the T-Mobile 5G Home Internet Service. I was able to get 4G service and use my Verizon cell phone and have internet for my laptop and Roku device. It was great for what i needed it for.
Even though everyone’s mileage may vary, AT&T has changed drastically over the past 5-7 years. I have their mobile service and fiber and could not be happier. At $65 a month for 1gb symmetrical, it’s hard to be beat.
In our neighborhood, fiber is not available. The only near-gigabit carrier is Spectrum, which I've had bad experiences with in the past as being unreliable. VHDSL is the best that AT&T can offer, and that's extremely slow, but at least more reliable than Spectrum.
I agree 100%! I've hadAT&T Fiber for 6 years and couldn't be happier. The upload speeds are the most incredible. Most cable companies will NOT give you symmetical (1gb/s up) speeds no matter what. It's $90/mo that I gladly pay.
At&T fiber has just been installed in Hutto, Texas. Since My Spectrum discount just expired, I can now switch to either AT&T or T-mobile 5G and get faster speed for less money. Updated 05/14/23 - Now we have NextLink going in also. I talked to a Hutto City Engineer last week. With the new Samsung chip plant going in 8 miles away in Taylor, suddenly everybody and their brother that has fiber all want cable plant in this area. He said there are at least 7 or 8 other companies that want 80-90% coverage here in our area. So it looks like before long, we will get fiber from Bob's Storm Door and Telephone company installing here (our pet name for the telephone company that had Sugar Land, Texas back in the late 1980's when they saw like explosive growth). After all, it's all federal money allocated to improve "rural" internet service. I would be tempted to not call Hutto "rural", but in reality, we don't have a grocery store yet. NextLink got over $438 million for this. They cover 7 states in the middle of the country, a little over 80,000 subscribers, 60,000 of which is mostly rural, that they cover with Wireless Broadband.
Here is the thing. When my wife and family moved recently, we did not have to do anything but hook this bad boy up. Internet the first day with zero issues. We were super impressed. No waiting on the cable guy or scheduling installations. And the best part is the speed is impressive and comparable to high speed broadband! In a home of 5 with tablets, laptops and a smart tv, we rarely have any issues. And when we do they are minimal. T-Mobile has done something here. The only question is how safe is this "5G" constantly emitting millimeter waves through the human body overtime.
I had the same experience with mine when I first installed it. Kept disconnecting all the time. It was honestly very frustrating and was going to return the device. After about 30 days or so it started to work flawlessly. Now I can’t remember the last time I had to reset it due to disconnecting. I use it mostly for browsing and some light work on my laptop. beats paying 100 with spectrum.
A year ago, and never been down but 2x for 1-2 hours. Gateway never had any issues. Speed varies but i get 300-600+ Mbps...way faster than Xfinity cable that i got only 120mbps. I connect my AX router with no issues.
Got tired of Charter jacking up the price of my service and never providing the throughput I am paying for. Been testing a T-mobile gateway and so far am pretty impressed. Been getting as high as 400mb on some speed tests. And the monthly charge can never be raised.
I have had T-Mobile for almost a year and it has worked very well. I agree with you that T-Mobile should offer a bridge mode as I would like to use my Meraki firewall without having to double NAT.
@@qazwsxzwharp Then the provider screws you with an additional cost for static IP's. It also screws with gaming consoles. I did up a WiSP using NAT many years ago and never stopped hearing complaints about NAT from unemployed stoners who spend 16 hours playing online games.

What can I say? I live out in the country and the only ISP I could get was one that provided line of sight internet service at 10mbps for over $85 a month. After being on the waiting list they finally came through, so I switched immediately to their Senior Magenta Plan. I love paying $75 a month for both full cell phone service and internet. Thats below the $85 a month I was paying for a slow internet service. So far so good for the last 6 months and I am very pleased with the speed and service provided by the T-Mobile Home Internet router.
Great video but one caveat that wasn’t mentioned was the type of 5G signal you was able to receive using the T-Mobile gateway. Based on the speeds you were getting during the testing it’s safe to say that you was connected to band N41 or their 5G ultra capacity network. If you we’re connected to N71 more than likely your download speeds would have been roughly 50-100mbps on average with peaks up too 150. Most people are not familiar with the 3 types of 5G signal, low band, mid band and high band or millimeter wave. Low band will give a wider coverage area but speeds will be similar to LTE. Mid band will give faster speeds but at a reduced coverage area. High band 5G will compare with fiber connections but only reach at a range of a city block or two. In which high band is usually deployed in highly dense populated areas.
N41 UC isnt the end all be all because some areas of N41 (like mine) only top out at 300mbps and the upload is all LTE no matter what area you’re in. Some places will combine band 66 with the n41 and use band2 as the LTE upload. He covered all that in the video by saying everything plays a factor, including Interference.
Thanks for this comment, I knew some of this based on the T-Mobile coverage map, but some things you said were not detailed by the map (which is absolutely fine, the coverage details come across clearly with the given information), and I thank you for the extra information.
This was a great video. Learned a lot from you and the comment section even more! I have had this "granny service" [as someone called it perfectly ;- ] for family HI about two months. For us it is working. Two separate gateways in two different buildings across town from each other. Daughter and granddaughter have HI for first time ever. It does get flaky on the roku run tvs occasionally and runs a bit slow at times where she lives - but all in all, for home use it has saved us money and she has connection. It always runs well on our cell phones and my Fire tablet. Special price deal [if you can catch it] is $55 a month, whereas for one connection with spectrum I was paying $80. If TMO irons out their buffering and conflicts with roku, I will be happier.
@@frankyng4159 I stream Direct Tv on 3 TV’s, we have 3 iPhones and IPads using it, and I do also game on PC and Xbox with no issues. I will note, the tower is just down the road and I am usually at 5G speeds, so that could make a difference,,,I never have any issues, top notch in my book.
Chris! You’re awesome, thank you. Like you, my home network is based on the Ubiquiti controller and I am interested in finding a suitable backup source for when the primary cable based service goes down. I’m not familiar with the double NAT issues you me mentioned but will do some research. Thanks again!
Hi Chris. Great video. Otherwhere in the world - for me in northern Europe - similar solutions are available. The Scandinavian based company '3' has a solution available with the most wanted option to bridge the router and can support an inter connection with a fixed IP-address. Same issues as with your T-mobile: occacional dropouts and the need for a residence in a 5G well-supported area. We moved office to a new location on a very short notice, and with 6 weeks delivery of a cable internet connection, the 5G worked with two routers for us until the cabled connection could be installed. I guess we'll keep the devices as we expanding our offices now and then, and for that the 5G option is well suited.
I just ordered to give it a try mainly because my Comcast internet was sooooo slow no matter which plan I purchased. They figured it was the outside wires that was the issue but no matter how much I complained they didn’t do anything about it. Time to try other options!
Thanks for the review! Being a TMO customer for 18 years I took the plunge based on your review. I live in a 5G UC area and have been averaging speeds around 250Mbps. The gateway is in my closet with the rest of my network and I'm only getting a "Good" connection according to the app. I have it plugged into my Amplifi HD and honestly, nobody in the house has noticed any change. My son did mention though that his ping times in Fortnite are about half of what they were on cable. We'll see. I'll give it a month or so until I cut the cord!
One thing that bugs the crap out of me is that they don’t prioritize this over other service. I use it as an airport in our break room. It’s great usually get around 150-170. But it slows down a lot during the day even when the airport isn’t busy. Also I had to put a fan near it because it seems to get very hot.
@@grayrabbit2211 You either have an obstruction, or are to far from the tower. Have you looked into an antenna? See Nater Tater's channel. It is best to be near a window with line of site to the tower. I have the original Sprint trash can unit, about the same speeds you are describing, the tower was nearly 3 miles away and I had no line of site due to trees and terrain. I went with the Verizon unit, 4G, but the data limit is capped at 50mbps. It is unlimited data, they simply throttle the speed. But, it runs everything in my house, several TV's with Roku boxes, music streaming and internet, no gamers here. The service has been rock solid and no issues. The tower is 1/2 mile away as the crow flies, with no obstructions other than trees. Getting five bars.
I just took my T-Mobile 5g back 2 days ago. It was great for the first day or so but after that it was pretty rough. I play sim racing and it wasn't very good for that and streaming worked most of the time but there were times when it was strong enough for streaming.

I’m a truck driver and have my home internet on the go with me always. Just recently connected a external router (netgear xr1000) for gaming and never really had too much of a problem going all over the country. Of corse their are some slow speed spaces and dead zones but majority of the time it’s work very well. Love the bonus of no speed/data caps, as I use data heavily.
Its actually insane how much internet costs over there, I pay £40 a month for 1Gbps down and 50Mbps up (upload is set to increase to 500Mbps for free in the future)
I have had T-Mobile 5G for over a year, I love it, best internet connection I've ever had. I do live in the city of Philadelphia, so of course 5G coverage is good. All my devices connect directly to it, either by network cable (My gaming PC and Entertainment PC) and other devices wirelessly. I have never had a single hiccup in the signal, and routinely stream at 4K, again without hiccup. That said, it should be pointed out that I live alone, so it's only generally feeding data to one device at a time, but the few times that I had 4K video streaming and Windows or my phone or iPad performing updates, I have never detected any hit to performance. For $50/month and no contract, I'm loving it! I haven't accepted any of their other offers because I don't need any of them, but they do continue to send me new offers of various types, so who knows?
Very good review. Thank you! I was considering switching from Xfinity/Comcast to TMobile for my home internet, but now I decided I will stay with Xfinity, just go down from 1.2Gbps to 400Mbps. The price is higher than Tmobile, but still competitive. I probably could go down to 200Mbps for even more savings....
200 Mbps Xfinity will blow away T-Mobile Home Internet in most cases. Even if T-Mobile home internet is faster occasionally, who cares? Xfinity will be pretty dam consistent all the time and get your 200 Mbps virtually always.
My device just showed up in the mail. Can't wait to install it. I don't work from home but I have a LOT of devices in my house - TV, smart speakers, displays, bulbs. Way cheaper than Spectrum for me as well. Hope it works out.
I just received mine today and I couldn’t be happier! I live out of the city and I was getting like 10 mbps download speed with AT&T and now I’m getting well over 150. Night and day difference!
We switched almost a year ago to T Mobile ,phones and internet. Verizon is almost non existent now and our cable wasn't much better. We have a tower close to the house so no problem . Optimum did run new cable wire and promised better speeds but I'm not changing back . Happy with the T Mobile Gateway.
I'm using T-mobile 4G Home internet since 2016, other than modem/router combo getting slugish and changing it last year, it was perfectly fine. Due to limitation ofc I can't just load ton of images on one PC and not having lags on other PC, but other than that, up to 50/30 and now up to 60/10 is a okay for something I can take with me (due to old contract, new ones are strict to one location). But I won't be switching, too high cost for not really that much of a change.
Thank you, I'm a T-Mo customer and their 5G is fast where I live, way better than AT&T which was slower than molasses. I've thought about trying it for a few months alongside my Cox to see how it compares or perhaps as a backup.
Tried it at my house (5G area). Great early morning, then my speeds dropped drastically in afternoons. Network could not keep up with normal busy times. Took hours just to take a speed test!
Thanks for the info. I’m sick of mediacom blackouts and surprise rate hikes! I’ve been considering T-Mobile I’m just a you tube junkie and old movie buff it sounds ideal for me!
Another issue I found out from a friend. The gateway/Modem from T-Mobile changes it’s IP frequently. This is also likely what attributed to your random loading issues as a friend had the same problem.
Switched from spectrum and this is several times faster, half as much money and far more reliable. I don't much like the double nat and lack of control options but at least it works vs spectrum stopping several times per day. Att dsl in my area is 5/1 Mbps unless it's raining and then zero. Honestly I'm a price over speed person and I'll take reliable cheap connections. 500mpbs download is really not often useful for me though 100 upload is nice. My weekend house has 12/12 Mbps 4g at dirt cheap and we don't feel cramped for speed.
@@Findmy_Way-Home Spectrum is not bad. I have a location with their Gigabit plan and consistently get 945 Mbps download and 42 Mbps upload. T-Mobile Home Internet can only dream of reaching these speeds.

This kind of device looks amazing for those who live where there's not many internet options like the country. I was inquiring about this since I may move out to the country due to family inherenence but when I added the address to the t-mobile website. Says address is not allowed but I also checked 5g coverage out in the country and it's solid? Though you did mention you walked in the store and walked out with a device. I may need to try that. This device seems to be the best option as the only other option is 90/mo for less than 1Mbps lol
Our address wasn't available for a long time even though 5G coverage is readily available in the area. I think(all just a guess on my part) they are slowly adding addresses and watching/protecting network capacity so to not overload towers. Once we were able to get it, it worked great. You can still type in an address that is less than 1/2 mile away and it says not available even though we can get it. Both addresses are less than 2 miles from the tower. I think adding your name to the 'waiting' list on the website when you trying checking service availability may actually get your address available sooner. You just have to keep checking the website though.....they didn't notify us of anything. Just one day it went from not available to available.
@@dturner40 I'm sure within the next 5 years it will be more readily available. I'm moving out there yet and getting a starlink is almost impossible. They need to have some better options out there for those who may need it especially out in the country. 99/mo for 1Mbps is actual robbery
I just renewed my contract with Comcast. 24 months at 89.99 for 1200/40. It’s baffling to me that Comcast hasn’t updated upload speeds yet and I always considering switching to this based on upload speeds alone. I wonder what the random slowdowns were caused by. Is that potentially a DNS issue with T-Mobile or a modem issue?
Xfinity upload speeds will be going up significantly with the adoption of DOCSIS 4.0. T-Mobile is not going to be competitive at all with these upload speeds.

And the price is great. Tmobile has been the best cell phone provider we've ever had . And we've had AT&T , Verizon. I highly recommend it
I could see this being exceptionally good in a couple of cases, one of which I'm actively considering with Verizon's option as a current Verizon customer, assuming they have comparative pricing and deals will have to actually look at that. The situation I'm considering is as a failover redundant wan system with my current spectrum connection because occasionally if the house loses power along with the rest of the block I might lose internet but I won't lose cell service at least for a little bit. So an active T-Mobile customer for 25 bucks a month. That's not a bad redundant internet connection. In fact it's probably excellent The other situation would be in places that are still around in the US where the only other option is like three megabit DSL. Again, thank you, spectrum.
I have both the Sprint and Verizon units, they never skipped a beat when the power was out for five days here in the Detroit area. I do have them on a battery backup and we have a whole house generator. We had Comcast Xfinity, every time a butterfly farted the service went down. I don't miss them in the least, more their ridiculous charges.
Running 4g in New Zealand and could not be happier. I am rural and was dealing with VDSL, no fibre or cable available, speeds around 12 to 15 mbps down and 1mbps up. Now I run 130 to 160 down and 20 to 30 up. Slightly higher latency but I still game on it, the biggest pain is that it resets every day. As long as I do a reset myself before I start playing I am fine.
Can you clarify on what the automatic reset process is? Does the provider send out a reset signal at a certain time daily? How long does resetting manually get you before another signal reset? Is this a setting that can be changed? Thank you in advance
@@J-tothe-A I guess it depends on the provider and the device. If I do a power cycle on the device before I start a gaming session I don't have an issue. I believe the provider does the auto reset every 24 hours but if I power cycle it the auto reset seems to be 24 hours later. This eventually seems to randomly change. I have not yet found any settings to change it.
Will be passing for now. I work at home and reliability is my number one concern. If I could rely on this 100% as my primary connection, I'd be all over it since I'm already a T-Mobile customer. Sounds like we're not there yet. I'm getting 800mbps for $65/mo from Comcast right now, so I'll be sticking with that for the foreseeable future.
I'm 100% work from home and right now since I lost my AT&T connection, it's my only ISP. It has been more reliable than my WISP was, but I may have to go back to the WISP since I'm struggling to get AT&T again.
I have the $55 plan at T-mobile the highest plan possible for the internet! Works very good with 10+ devices it’s very convenient and fast. Runs at very high speeds I also got a tablet with the modem and everything totaled out to only $70 that’s a steal!! I would rather have this internet over my old internet provider.
I just cancelled my T-Mobile Home internet after having it for well over a year. It was ok but increasingly erratic. I found setting a timer to automatically reboot the router daily helped a bit. A USB 120mm cooling fan blowing up from the bottom also helped somewhat. It never worked well enough to rely on as my only provider. Also some devices don't work properly for some reason (as T-Mobile support confirms). Not terrible if you live very close to a 5G tower. I kept hoping it would get better, but it didn't. Also, T-Mobile is a nightmare to work with.
@Ed.A you must have the Nokia ""aka " trash can model which was notorious for bad heat dissipation. Two more models have been introduced since the Nokia and they have pretty much fixed the heat problem. Maybe you should try the Arkaydian model to see if it will give you better service.
@@Andman-tx5uu I'm done with T-Mobile. They never did get my billing straightened out even though it should have been simple. Midco put optical fiber in my neighborhood a few months ago and it's much faster, more reliable and even less expensive. To top it off the customer service is great. T-Mobile's customer service was a horror story.
Hey I feel you man, I'm n downtown Raleigh NC, everybody got towers in this city. Only had T-Mobile a short length of time, so far it's been alright. Tried Nomad, got all kinda runaround with them, now Verizon is part owner and you have to buy not rent but buy their expensive equipment in order to get service. Had Spectrum but where I moved to, they are in the process of putting Spectrum in my new complex. Good to you, you should be ok with fiber.
I live about 20 miles north of Mpls/Saint Paul. Centurylink was the only option here for decades, terrible speeds (max ranged from 1.5 to 3 mbps down, 0.75 mbps up). Then they upgraded to fiber with copper for the last 1/2 mile. It was capable of higher speeds but they software limited it to 20 mbps down and 0.875 mbps up. Pitiful. When the connection went down it would sometimes take days for them to go through their link points to restore service. I talked to a number of their techs on the roads and to a man they complained about not even being able to get proper connectors for repairs after centurylink bought out quest. Thought I'd try t-mobile, much faster but not very reliable. A friend who lives a couple miles away also tried t-mobile for. He lives line of sight from the t-mobile tower which is about 1.5 miles away. He had the same erratic problems as I and even got the latest t-mobile modem/routers twice. He had a hard time getting them to upgrade his equipment but he's very persistent. No improvement for him except that the newer ones ran cooler. Now Midco built out fiber all the way to my house. The ONU (similar to a cable modem) is included no charge and stays with the house even if you move. Of course you either need to buy or rent their mesh router system or install your own router. I installed my own router. Very easy setup if you've done any networking. So far the service and speeds are great, a real > 250 mbps (always tests in the 260-270 range) both up and down for $10 a month less than t-mobile was charging me. I called customer service a couple times with questions and wait time was always under a minute. With t-moble it was sometimes over an hour and then I would get shuttled from place to place and back again with no resolution. Horrible customer service with t-mobile. Even worse than centurylink (as centurylink would at least always sooner or later fix the problem, although leisurely). 😞
You just walked into a T-Mobile store and signed up? Wow. I've been on their waiting list for almost a year. I guess that's what I get for living way out here in the wilderness of Los Angeles.
I tried this same 5G service through Verizon after my fiber optic service went down during tax season and ATT couldn’t/wouldn’t fix it in a timely manner. At first, I had trouble connecting with the default WiFi channel configuration so I changed to channel 5 and it has been working great ever since.
I currently have 1 gig fiber, so I want to qualify my comments accordingly. I have Xfinity mobile for my phone service, and my area is just now getting 5G+.... once in a while. I have been in areas that have fully adopted 5G, and I have never been impressed. The speeds even "looking at the tower" are paltry at best. I don't know if you just live in an extremely dense 5G area, or I have been in very weak 5G areas, but I got nowhere near the speeds you're reporting! I'm also disappointed that the download/upload are asynchronous. I consider upload as important as download. Having been a cable customer for years, this was a source of frustration for me. I actually moved to an area that offered fiber internet, for that reason. Thanks for the thorough testing, and as always, a great video!
Similar to most, it can be good at times however the consistency is not ideal. Its a cool device though and I have seem some interesting builds with the internal components and I am wondering if maybe newer versions will have directional attenas vs omni-directional. We shall see.
Very good review video. I have seen some reviews from T-Mobile themselves, but then they did not speak about the negatives you spoke about (as expected). I loved the way you presented an unbiased review.
I tested out Verizon's and after hours of trouble shooting and being on the phone I sent it back. It can't be bridged. Took forever to find someone to tell me that. I'd have to imagine the business class one can be bridged.
Can confirm. Have been using TMO home internet for about 8 mo now exclusively. I have six children, all with devices and every afternoon after school, at least 6 different streams going. Also, I work from home full time for a software company and am in Teams video calls all day every day. Good Xbox One play. Attached to a 100% Ubiquiti setup. Couple things - #1 CGNAT sucks. Tailscale gets around it nicely. #2 IP address changes daily which annoys me, but again, Tailscale. #3 it does occasionally stall out (about once a month) requiring me to bounce my USG Pro. #4 The price!!!!!! For being attached to the internet 100% of the time for my job and my kids sucking it down left and right - shazam. Question - I'm paying $50/mo. I also have 8 lines with TMO on cell...what's this $25/mo business???
There was a promotion for awhile here 2 months ago. Email sent to customers near whatever tower they'd outfitted with the 5g. You had limited time to sign up. I have the three accts in 2 separate apartment buildings. $55 for both.
Had to laugh at your comment on how many lines you have cause of family. Since I got this whole service for 3 of us, Ive gained 3 or 4 more! I never noticed the gateway would get msgs as the videographer said.
Aside from satellite, I have two options for Internet. No cable here. One is an outfit that provides a Motorola Canopy radio mounted to the house, aimed at a cell tower about five miles away. It was reliable but hardly fast, and it was expensive, around $90 for modest speed service. T-Mobile now runs about 75 down and 32 up. Plenty good for me. T-Mobile seems to ration the accounts on each tower to prevent overloading, something I don't think they always did, which might account for experiences that changed over time. This tower was upgraded last year. Very easy to set up. Customer tech service is very good.
Good info and useful review. I especially like the speed test data logging setup! I do wish there was more detail on latency. I find inconsistent latency can make video calls painful despite good download speeds. But I'm definitely going to run down to t-mo if my comcast connection goes out during work-from-home!
I signed up for a trail here in Florida in April 2024. They had quoted me $40 so I called and questioned them about your saying $25 and they said that was an early promotion. I will receive the modem in a few days and excited to try the service. I am currently on a 600 meg tier with Xfinity for the same $40 but it. has had a lot of dropouts lately.
I waited and waited for T Mobile to come to my home area as I was a T Mobile Customer. No luck. Verizon did upgrade in my area and I decided to change services and go with Verizon. Works great and no complaints. I have 5G UW signal on my phone sitting at my desk, cell only, no wifi. I hope you get this good of service with T Mobile if it makes it to your area.
I ordered it about a week ago and have been using it for a few days now. I was a bit worried it would suck because I live in a basement apt in a converted house that is a 100 + years old. My signal says good and I'm getting roughly 100 Mbps down. For just me, it works great so far.
Thinking about getting this. I have questions if you don't mind: I am planning on using this as my own wifi for upstairs would it work well/no interference if there is a separate router downstairs? Another question: is the plan unlimited 5G? Or a set amount? Kind of want to get it for my Steam Deck mainly so I can download a 80gb game would it suffice? Depending on how it turns out I may keep the TMHI later on.
I've had the full boat geezer plan for a year now and it's been great. Heckuva lot cheaper than basic cable and Straighttalk, faster and included Netflix, Disney+ & Paramount plus unlimited hotspot which works great while travelling in the RV. Never less than 50-60 Mbs , max speed was 341Mps.
I have been a Comcast/Xfinity Customer since 2009. What made me switch was in Nov. 2021, I received notice from Comcast stating an increase in pricing starting Jan. 2022 of $30 more which would be $95 from $65 and that did it for me. I had gone through many increases and I had enough of it. I had heard about T-Mobile and decided to take a peek. I'm so glad I did. The date was 11/19/2021. I called the rep and at the end of the conversation, I was a T-Mobile 5G Home Internet customer. I, also, got one of those temporary hotspot devices which I never used and now it's totally off my account. My speeds vary but always over 100 mbs which is fast for me since all I ever got from Comcast was 56 to 71 mbs even when I was paying for Blast. And they always powered down the system at 330 am Sundays for 20 minutes and then came back on. Now a good year later, I've had a 4K Smart TV, Roku and my computers and no interruptions, no lagging everything runs like clockwork. I'm very happy with the service. Fall River didn't have a connection actually but I was able to get some signal. I'm near New Bedford and it runs faster. There are no caps either which I like. I use about 600 gb/mos. but that was when my TV and Roku hooked up but now I'm staying with my sister so I just stream on my laptop and sometimes I use the WIFI for texting. I have the Nokia Trash Can (silver) modem.
Boy! This would have helped a week ago when my Google Fiber went down for 5 days. Although I have heard of this, I had forgotten about it while I watched RU-vid on my phone...like a savage!
Also I'm a full time RV'er with a work remote job. I can work from anywhere as long as I have an internet connection. Where I am currently is just outside of 5G range but it works with 4G also. I get anywhere from 85mbps to 200mbps download speeds which is fine for all I do. I can work and stream fine all day long. I have an issue with my work VPN killing my speeds but I think that is an issue with my VPN more than the connection as it happened to both ATT and T-Mobile. I'm still able to work effectively though.
My office was flooded 2 days ago. Had to move everything out of the office for contractors to replace walls and floors. Probably another 3-5 days before full restoration and insurance paperwork etc. During this time I'm using TMobile 5g as i have no way to plugin the Ubiquiti router in the office until repairs are done. However, also recently had fibre cable broke some where outside, TMobile 5G came in handy during this outage. Wife works from home, she said one time her live meeting dropped so she reconnected, other than that, no issues with TMobile 5G.
Hi Chris, i am in michigan and have the t mobile 5 g internet for my business of just 2 people and only used for emails and browsing the web. Its in a 2nd floor office with no windows have had little to know issues with it. We were unable to get xfinity for some reason so we went this route really no complaints.
I have T-mobile 5g and really like it. I had Cox 1g (gigablast) for around 5 years. My cost was the con in the otherwise pro. With cable Tv it was $240 a month. After I moved the first thing I did was cancel the Cable tv portion. I live in Phoenix Az and get over 100 over the air channels and use a computer with a Hd Tv card as my Dvr (about $20.00 a year) As for T-mobile after my first month its been solid. My speeds vary from 250 mbps to 400 mbps to slightly over 500 mbps after midnight. For the price i like it. The best perk is my upload speeds more then doubled. As a sim racer upload speeds help drop my lap times.
September 28th How are you liking it Is it still worth it I'm moving in about a week and I'm really leaning towards going this route opposed to spending $200 on my local cable service
I’m getting about 350mbps as well with it. We use it primarily as a failover to my UDM SE. We have also toted it around when we have gone on vacation last year. If you get into a major city or beach town with it i have pulled close to a gig with it even thought the T-Mobile sales guy says the modems are only good for 600mbps. Over all im pretty pleased with it. It’s nice to go on vacation and not have to worry about dealing with the hotels WiFi.
I just moved and fiber or cable aren’t available where I’m moving. The options were satellite which was over $100 with 100gb cap or Tmobile. I just signed up for the basic plan hoping it works out for streaming and occasional download for games. The rep also said there is a tower within 2 miles of me so I should get good signal.
I`m on a 15 day tryout with T-mobile router and so far it is fantastic, ATT fiber is good but beware when they add new lines for new customers near you, your line may be cut off during cable trenching, several of my neighbor had that issue with them too, 30.00 vs 76.00 is a huge difference in price, I think T-mobile may be the winner, time will tell.
I switched to T-Mobile for my cell service and their Home 5G for my Internet when I moved to Cambridge MA and after two weeks I have no complaints especially at $30/mo for Internet when I was paying $90/mo for FiOS in LA and dealing with garbage Frontier. I'm averaging over 300Mbps which is plenty fast enough for me. Plus setup couldn't be any easier walked home from T-Mobile store with the router plugged it in and signed on.
I have spectrum 500 meg. once a month around 2 am EST they do an hour maintenance. Besides that for $69.99 it rocks solid. I have a bundle so that is why I get that price. I also get 5g phone service for $14 a month with no other tax or fees not even 911 tax/charge. I could go business but I would pay 5x as much and only difference is I get a ip address which I do not need. I am happy with what I got but for some what you are showing might be there best option.
I have had TMobile 5G for 5months now. I have been getting anywhere from 300 to 400 download speed and 130 to 150 upload speeds. I live on the third floor of my building and have a perfect view of the TMobile broadcast unit that is on top of a power pole. I am about 120 to 150 yards away from it. I am getting twice the speeds from TMobile 5g home compared to Cox cable. I am paying $20 less for TMobile for better speed. I would say if you can see a dark colored can on top of a power pole and black cabinet below, most likely it is TMobile home broadcast tower. They also say they will not raise the price yearly like broadband providers do. I have been very happy with the change I made. I do NOT miss cox at all!
I already had a wired internet connection through Optimum. We also get Cable TV and just switched our cell service from Verizon for a substantial savings. I often get slowdowns or dropped service on the wired connection from trees downed or other physical interference. I figured that wireless would not be vulnerable to those issues and so far the speed and reliability of T-Mobile is fantastic! With wireless speeds in the 3 to 4 hundreds vs 1 to 2 hundred wired. I had also already invested in several Eero mesh units installed around the house. . I unplugged my Wired Eero from the Optimum wired connection and connected the Ethernet directly into the T-Mobile and immediately got better service throughout the house than with the Optimum wired. One real world test or proof of that is that my Ring cameras now open and respond much more quickly than when on the wired system. I have around 30 Alexa items around the house, lights, plugs, Echos, Fire Sticks and cameras. I will no doubt keep adding to that array with garage opener, door locks… who knows but we Love it. My biggest concern now would be a power outage which of course would literally put us back in the dark ages. I am thinking about a whole house battery. Thanks for doing a great video!
Is this great for gaming as well? I usually use my internet for tv for the kids and gaming at the same time while using 2 other phones as well on the same wifi
Moving into my first apartment soon. Any point of getting this or should I just use my phones hotspot I have go5g plus plan so 50gb of 5g and then unlimited max 3g speeds after. I do a good amount of gaming tho when I can
Question: Live in NorCal with multiple grid wide power outages per year. When we lose power Comcast goes dead (no backup generators), but cell coverage is maintained. I assume T Mobile has backup and with a small UPS the T Mobile 5G service should be solid??
whats the advantage of this over the Straight Talk home internet? What is the advantage of both over hotspot devices offered by both Tmobile and straight talk? I am looking for the cheapest way to have internet in the mountains on vacation. I love staying at cabins in the Smokey Mountains and look forward to camping around the country and would love to use one of these to get much better internet after a long day of motorcycle riding. So which do you think is better T-Mobile or Straight Talk's home internet or their HotSpot devices?
