Jeff!!! I'm so glad you bought it and made a review!!!! I was totally looking at that same one but the price tag did set me back a bit....gonna have to check it out on our coming trip! Hahaha
If space is at a premium, this Firecan is perfect for you. With all the fire restrictions on the West Coast, this will still allow you to have a camp fire.
Just got one of these last week! This is the first base review. Thanks! Folks talk about the soon coming heat diffuser. But I haven’t seen it or now what it looks like or, sounds silly… what it does. Ignik I think posted that accessories for the Firecan will be coming out Q1 of 2022. Not sure what those are, but kinda excited what other things I can add to this compact set up.
Oh, so the ceramic logs are the diffuser, spreading the heat out more evenly. Ohhh, got it. Yeah, I liked the lil logs you put in there. Added a whole other feel and look even to the flames. Thanks is again
I contacted REI and I was told to contact Ignik about the heat diffuser, because it should have been included in the box and that Ignik had somehow sent out units without the diffuser in them. I was also told I could ship it back. But I’ll wait and see till tomorrow, cause I’m calling Ignik back in the morning since they were closed this evening when my firecan arrived. But I must say that it certainly feels solid.
On the Ignik website, I recall the FireCan description saying “heat diffuser sold separately.” Let me know if they send you one though. I may have to call them too.
@@havekidswillexplore good morning bud, I just got off the phone with Ignik customer service and I was told that the diffuser does not exist and that it was a fluke, and it was put in the instruction manual by mistake. I explained my cause for concern and they reassured me that it was perfectly fine to use with ceramic rocks, lava rocks or ceramic logs and it would not overheat the unit. And that the unit actually works better without the diffuser. I hope that help? I know I feel better now.
@@user-cy8ve7tr8y Thanks for the update. The FireCan works well with the ceramic logs I bought from Amazon. I wouldn’t mind trying the lava rocks to compare. enjoy your FireCan.
I am torn between the Ignik Fire Can and the Lava Box. I know the Lava Box is made in the USA. Where was the Ignik Firecan made? They are pretty much priced the same. The Lava Box comes with ceramic stones but the box does not have the folding legs like the Ignik. You can buy a "Over/Under" accessory for the Lava Box which has the legs, but also doubles as a grill top so you can BBQ food on top of it. I think I'll probably go with the Lava Box since it is made in the USA.
The Lava Box was my other option. I like how tall its flame is. The Firecan says it’s “imported.” But it’s still very well constructed. The flip out legs definitely provide more stability to the can. You can’t go wrong with either one.
I'm looking for this one. It's compact & perfect size for our camping, but I hate the price the charging $200.00 w/o heat diffuser. It is way over price for me & Now REI selling lava rock for this $20.00 so with tax it's around $250.00 for everything. It's way over price for me. I will pass this one & I will keep my $80.00 one i bought from costco it's little bigger than Ignik but it's better than spend $250.00 . Thanks for the review.
I hear you. It’s definitely on the pricey side. I waited till REI offered the 20% coupon. The small size is a real plus for us. We’re maxed out on space. Thanks for watching.
I’ve used it twice on a 5lb tank. The first time in decently warm weather and I left it on for easily 3:30 hours. It had more propane in the tank, but we went to bed. The second time was in very cold weather. I had the FireCan on full for about 30 minutes and my tank froze over. Needless to say, the flame was small and not worth keeping lit. I believe propane fires will work best with a 20lb in cold weather. 5lb is good for hotter temps.
It’s supposed to go 2 hrs 20 minutes on a 5 lb tank. I just got one, it doesn’t produce much heat, and the heat produced comes from the grated sides, not much out of the “closed” sides. I’m pretty sure some sort of diffuser or heat capturing element (lava rocks, fire glass, or ceramics) would help keep/disperse heat better. I just bought mine, so let’s see….😅😊
I just found this thing in my feed on amazon - I didn't realize Ignik had this thing. Considering all the fire bans we have to deal with - this just might be the ticket and the size seems spot on. have you been able to take it on one of your adventures yet?
Yeah, the fire ban starts in CA just before Memorial weekend. I used the 20% coupon from REI to save a few bucks. We brought the FireCan on 2-3 trips already. It does a good job. Watch my latest Jawbone Canyon video at 11:58 and you’ll see the FireCan. After the camera pans out you’ll also see the Lava Box (on the left).
I went ahead and picked one of those up - I'm glad you made the review as I didn't even know this was a thing. I had already burned through my REI coupon so I just went ahead and ordered it from Ignik. I had purchased one of their Growler propane tanks a couple years ago - didn't know they had released the Firecan.
I threw the mini logs in and fired it up. I tried not to cover the gas holes. And, I adjusted the logs positions a few times till the flame was centered.
I just got my firecan today and it didn’t come with the heat diffuser. I called REI and asked them why the fire can comes with the instructions on how to use it if the diffuser doesn’t come with it. I was told that Ignik just forgot to include it in the box and was told to contact Ignik so I could get one shipped out to me immediately.
