When I first got into the military, I thought there was no way our military would go against us. By the time I got out I’m fully convinced that many within the military would attack our own people without question

Or Covid. No, 80% of the population, plus or minus, will obey any order they can rationalize. "If we do not stop it here, it could boil out of control" is a very normal thought pattern. If your trooper believes it is a matter of national security, 3/4ths of the unit will open fire. It is why you never base your plans on "it could not happen"... ask the Dems how that worked with abortion.

The military has a history of being willing to kill its own. Little rock crisis (101st airborne), ruby ridge (Idaho national guard + federal services), etc etc.

Say what you Will about Stephen King I think he nailed it in the stand. There’s sections from the book a talk about peaceful protest that gets opened up on, and then other soldiers open up on those soldiers who opened up on the protesters. there’s one particular scene that always stuck with me, the army is sent in to shut down a radio station, and a sergeant shoots the radio host only to have his unit turn on him for shooting an unarmed civilian.

I think it depends on the situation they find themselves in. Ordered to fire on peaceful, unarmed civilians? Probably not. In a riot where civilians have become a threat? Yes. Once a soldier has been targeted by their own people, all bets are off.

@@michaeldowson6988 Agreed. I have a very hard time believing that what we are seeing now happened organically. Factions have fanned the flames until they are nearly burning out of control. This path we are on now can't lead to a good place.

The problem for them, is we have two decades of combat vets who have been trained in guerilla tactics and improvised explosive devices that would not take kindly to them.

From comments I’ve seen here, I agree with them. I think it all depends on situations that the troops find themselves in, the same goes for the Blue Line.

Yes, because, human nature. Even though that recent movie "Civil War" was pretty lame, the one line from all the teasers is applicable to this question: "What kind of American are you?".
