Forget about those new tires, at my age I can neither afford them nor lift them if I had to change a tire (smiles). That being said, I am constantly amazed at the professional videos that you put out. The clarity of this video is so sharp that I feel that I am there in the garage with you. And the delivery of the information is nothing short of amazing! There was not one "umh" or "uh" or other pause in the entire video. The entire production is so well done that you could easily be a spokesperson for one or more of the manufacturers. Even when you post a video of a project that I can only dream of, I still watch it, knowing that I will both learn something and be the recipient of a well edited video. From: an old guy who is a late entry into the world of JEEPing. Stock 2016 JK 2-door Willys Wheeler. Thank you for sharing your Jeep Journey.
I have 35 inch K02s load range Es on my Cummins and love them. I gave about 30k miles on them and in slick mud, sand, ice, snow, packed snow, slushly snow, rain, and rock. I would definitely buy again. One of the best compromises between offroad, winter and onroad performance.
Hey Brad!! We love your videos!! So much attention to detail. As we prepare our TJ for our Alaska trip for our 25th Anniversary we have learned alot from you. Currently we are on 33 12.5 15 ko2s We like them so much that we have decided they will be our tire for our adventure. A full 60 days exploring that beautiful state. Thanks for the great videos and always helpful honest pros and cons for everything you take time to talk about.
I run 33” Cooper ST Pros. Have 47,000 miles on them and they have performed flawlessly. I do a 5 tire rotation every 5,000 miles so I should be able to get another 10,000 miles on them. Plan to go with a Cooper ST Pro 35” when they are replaced. GREAT tire.
Appreciate the words Brad. I've run BFG tires only, AT's, mud TA's, KM2s, and the 37" Kevlar which I am currently running on the JK. Honestly, the mud TA's were the best performing, longest lasting tires. Granted they weren't the quietest, but they were great! The KM2s are my second choice. The KM3 is what I will be going to once these kevlars go. The Kevlars are fine on rocks, water, sand, snow but they are noisy as hell and rather heavy.
Great video. I ran BGF KO2 tires on my Jeeps for a long time. Great tire. I did recently switch from 37 KO2 to 37 KM3 for our JLUR. I love it. I was hesitant at first because I didn't want the noise. They are actually really quiet for being a mud terrain tire. My buddy has the 37 STT Pro on his JLUR, and he really likes those. Wish I saw you at Cleghorn, I have a few videos there on my page. It has always been a go to spot for me. Close to home, and some good trails. Keep up the good work, I really enjoy your videos.
1 year of ever changing planning. This year we start the build. Which you personally helped with for the decision of our roof top tent, and alot of gear ideas. Again thanks for the great videos.
I had 33” ko2’s on my jku, went with a larger lift and stepped up to 35’s and went with Patagonia mt’s. Truthfully I hear no noticeable sound difference between the ko2’s and the patagonia. They’re amazing so far. Had them in snow for a few months here in Ny and they performed great! I’d highly recommend and was hoping to see you go for these this time around! I don’t blame you on the coopers, that was my next choice!
Cooper SST pro 37x12.5x17 is what were on my 2014 Jeep JKU when I bought it last July. I do like them, but this is my current daily driver. Now it has been on a few light trails. But I am currently looking to switch to an All terrain tire for better road manners. As always, great videos. Love following Regina and your adventures. Safe travels to you both.
The KO2 was a big improvement over the KO from what I have seen in my state of Arizona. The KO would chip pretty severely over time on the sharp rocks you encounter in rocky desert terrain, the KO2 is able to outlast the KO almost 2 to 1 here. Michelin really brought BFG into the modern Era. The French have tire tech on lock down...
@@dad3562 I am still running the KO2, its been great. If you went with any of the major brand name AT or MT tires I think it would probably be fine. I might try the Falken tire next, just for something different when these wear out.
I ran those tires on one of my JK’s and besides being a little soft on rocks, they weren’t too bad. They seem to run a little small and narrow for the stated size, but that’s an all-terrain for you!
I have the same Cooper tires but not as big. I have them on my first gen tundra A/C I have them for a lil over year now and it's been awesome. Still got great tread and they have held up awesome under my truck. No issues at with the Cooper's. Really not bad as far as noise goes on the highway. Great videos keep up the great work and I love seeing the xj in action. I sold my xj to buy my tundra. I do miss it on some narrow trails that I get my tundra through.
I'm running the same BFGs in 35s and I love em, had them on my old F150. I do believe though that I'll go with Patagonia Mile Stars on my next set after seeing what Lite Brite Jeep puts em through plus daily driving. But it's going to be a while before my 2015 JKU Rubicon gets a new set, just bought the BFGs 10k miles ago! Keep up the great work! Thank you!
Glad to hear you had no issues with the BFG's. I had no issues for years, until the last 3 sets. Then, nothing but sidewall cracking issues. They were the KO1's, and BFG knew about the issues and did nothing knowing they had the KO2's coming up soon. For that, they lost a customer. I'm a fan of those Coopers and Nitto's. Looking forward to hearing how the Coopers compare on the rocks to the KO2's.
good decision brad , i have 37inch cooper on my rig and i love them. no problem at all in mud or other type of obstacle , a little bit noisy but its easy to deal with, i was waiting for u to say u got cooper , not disappointed
Your videos convinced me to buy a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2019 Rubi yesterday. I’m happy as ever. Your make AMAZING content brother. RECOMMENDATION: make more videos on cool interior setups on vector mounts and tech.
I recently switched to the KO's (35's) and I LOVE them for all the reasons you mentioned here, Brad. I went through 2 sets of KM2's (35's) and felt a need to change things up. That said, those Cooper's you have now are a great tire as well. Also, I completely agree with your statement regarding 35's on a Rubicon Jeep.
Great stuff, Brad!!! I went straight from stock (BFG KM mud-terrain 255/75r17) tires to STT Pros in 37x13.50r17 about two months ago and I LOVE them. I can’t wait to see a video on how you like them. Enjoy!!!!
Brad Do you not run an inner fender? Also what fenders are you running. Always love your videos and from one veteran to another..,man I appreciate everything you stand for and your service
nice pick on the tires!! i have 37 STT pros myself. they lack some ability in the snow unless you really air them down far, but offroad they are amazing.
Brad! I Love your program, I always look here first on how too and trail exploring, I am more excited about upgrading my jeep now than ever (17 4D Rubicon) I am a Black wheel guy but my Jeep is Rhino "color". Yours looks perfect the way you dressed it, the new Spyder fenders are a must have. thank you for your clear & concise reporting. also need them door Step hinges. so badass.
Dang! You should have gone with the milestar patagonia. I've got the 37 milestar patagonia MT and they are silent and crazy aggressive on all surfaces. I've had them for 10,000 miles and i'm totally in LOVE with them if you can't tell. They are only $240.00 each!!!! I have these on my daily driver. I drive these to work and back every day and they ride nicer and are quieter then my previous all season tires.
You should definitely do a 5 tire rotation.. If you brake one atleast they will all have similar tire wear and you won't notice the difference on the road but if you add a new tire when all other 4 are halfway done well.. It'll be a sad day.
The only thing I see need to be changed on KO2 is sidewall on larger tire sizes should match the size, cause sidewall out of 27 let's say don't look good on 37, they look like a bubble, or they should have 2 styles on larger KO2s this bubble-style sidewall tire and 2nd more box style sidewall tire plus little more down on sidewall.
An excellent choice! I’ve ran the same tires for the past 2 years and they perform excellent on the rocks. I just love the look of these tires as well.
Good call, I have always said you need to pay to play, if you off road your rig you need an aggressive tread like a mud tire the A/T tires just don't cut it when you are out playing and the weather changes, dry going in, wet coming out and the guys with mud tires are getting through while the A/T runners are getting pulled through.
Hey Brad, great video...do you think running 37s on the wrangler jl are similiar to running 35s on the jk? In other words, does the jl handle 37s better requiring less modifications in steering components, cv's...etc? Alot of folks seem to be daily driving/wknd warrior on 37s with stock jl rubi axles and tie rod/draglink. Thoughts?
Totally agree with your decision to go with the A/T vs the M/T. For this reason I chose the Toyo R/T. They seemed to perform almost exactly like your KO2s with respect to tread life, on road, and offroad (especially suffering out here in the AL/GA clay & mud). I was thinking of Ridge Grapplers next but your review is making me consider the Coopers.
Brad awesome video and tire choice partner. Btw Cooper are an American owned and made tire company. Figured worth sharing with all the good folks. God bless you all.
I have 33s KO2s on an XJ. No problems what so ever. Even wear and tear. Daily driven for work on arizona weather. Weekend offroad no problem. 33x12 5x15. Quiet on the freeway.
@@dad3562 no issues been to Sedona greasy spoon trail and reymert mine trail very rocky and held up nicely. If your going to daily and offroad once in while KO2s in my opion, if your going to offroad hardcore then km3s. Never had stt.
A lot of people gravitate towards those coopers. They're on my short list here soon. Apparently they are terrible on snow, but really good at everything else. I am excited to hear about your experience with them. I only have 4 months until I have to buy a set. Keep us informed!
Great video. Love my coopers. I’m running them in a 37x13.50 and have just over 10/32 after about 32,000 miles and that’s with religious 5 tire rotations and keeping a close eye on balanced and PSI. I think you’ll get some good life out of them. Great choice!
Nice choice Brad. I recently stepped to 37” tires after completing my LS swap. I ran 35” KO2’s for 4+ years on my 2011 JKUR with excellent results like yourself. I had similar wear results as well. I had 48k driven miles and another approximately 18k miles of being flat towed behind our coach. I sold them with a remaining 6/32’s on them utilizing a 5-tire rotation at every LOF service. When making my choice for the 37’s I strongly considered another set of the KO2’s because I was so pleased and impressed with their overall performance in every driving condition except mud and I absolutely despise mud and try to avoid it at all costs. I had heard and witnessed great off-road performance from the Cooper STT Pro’s and waffled on them because I wanted something just a little more aggressive this time but didn’t want to go back to another mud-terrain after having them prior to the KO2’s. In the end I went the Nitto Ridge Grappler which is considered an “aggressive” all-terrain or a “hybrid” and love them so far after my first 3500 miles in all conditions with the exception of mud. Did I mention I don’t like mud???😜 Looking forward to your review of pavement manners on the Coopers but your separating issue on your 35’s made me a bit gun shy. Mike
TrailRecon Brad, whatever you do don’t drive an LS or LT powered JK then because you’ll be hooked. The power is so smooth and seamless. I just returned from Moab for the first time with this combination and I love it even more. I found I hardly had to use 4WD, only on the more difficult obstacles, otherwise with the low first gear of the 6L80 transmission it just negotiated the trails so easily. I told my wife I felt like I was cheating because it moved so effortlessly along the trails. It’s just so smooth and docile now and nice low RPM. Hands down the best mod I’ve done to my Jeep to date and I’ve had it for nearly 8 years and nearly 100k miles. I hope to have it on the road/trails another 15-years and hopefully another 200k fun filled miles. If you want to see what is involved with the transplant I have a series of videos on my channel documenting the engine swap in my home shop. Love your channel Brad and I would like to meet up with ya on the trails somewhere. Mike
Ding Ding Ding! winner! I guessed you were going back to the Cooper STT Pros! I love mine and will never go back! Great on all surfaces. Yes, they may not wear as well as your others but over all...the best in my book! So far I have 30k online and tons of tread left. Here in Colorado we see every kind of terrain. Now, do a 5 tire rotation to get the most out of them!
@@TrailRecon You are welcome here anytime! You have earned the respect of so may people around the world with you videos. You are the real deal. Some day I will shake your hand and thank you in person. Next time you are here in Colorado conceder Poughkeepsie Gulch....beautiful and challenging. My YT channel just dreams of being as classy as yours....
Good review Brad. I just mounted up some Pro Comp 37x12.5x17 Extreme MT2's. They've only been on for a couple days, but I'm liking them so far. Cheers!
Great video. I’ve been running the k02 on my 2 door JK and have 10/32 left with 55k on them. You honestly can’t beat the wear life on these. Wish the sidewall was a bit softer though
Here in the Midwest every trail is going to have some degree of mud on it. I know MTs wear faster, are louder, and ride less smoothly, but even though I also drive on the road a lot, that confidence to claw through mud without worry is like a drug I can't kick. Love MTs even if they aren't the logical choice. 👍
Had KO2, duratrac, and now ST Maxx on my LJ. Found the ST Maxx to be the best so far, and it's available in a 255/85r16. Not quite as quiet as the KO2, but better than the duratrac and better performance off road than both. A bit heavy (only LR-E available) but love them and would get them again.
I went from the AT3 and went to the KM3. KM3 is well mannered and quiet on road. The AT3's had better traction in the wet and snow though but with a thinner profile.
Woohoo i cant believe you went back to the Cooper Stt Pros not the 315/70r17s but the 37x12.50r17 inch size awesome choice. Btw Bfgs are still extremely good tires no doubt! Nice Upgrade Brad👍
100% agree with your opinion. I’ve only got appx 10k on my Toyo MTs and there done, but my XJ is an all offroad toy so those have been some hard miles.
If you can, post a video after you have tried them for a few days. I am split between STT Pro and KO2's myself. Trying to decided which to go with. Mine would be the 35's and I use it for a daily driver also.. Very interested in your opinion over the next few days, might help me make my final choice.
Brad…I’m running 35” KO2’s / 17” rim on a 2013 JKU RUBICON with a Rusty’s 3-1/2” lift and Rusty’s RX9 shocks and the ride is so rough. I want the 3 peak snow rating but I’m trying to figure out what shocks to run. These tires are Class C, yet the side walls are hard as a rock. My tech test my Jeep with stock 30” tires from another brand and it softened the ride. KO2 tires are great if you can handle a hard ride.
I ran KOs and KO2s on my Tacoma a couple years ago and only got 29k out of both sets even with balancing and rotations every 3k. I enjoyed the Nitto Terra Grapplers I had after, as well as my Falken AT3Ws which held up great for the year and a half I ran them before finally switching to mud terrains. I decided to give BFG a third chance with a set of KM mud terrains which were absolute garbage. Currently I’m running Firestone MTs and I could not be happier with the looks and performance overall, about 15k miles in and still at full tread.
Great video as always Brad. Thank you! I jumped on the Milestar bandwagon with a set of 37’s. I’m pretty sure I will only get 20-30k miles out of them with a 5 tire rotation. They seem ok so far. Depending on your review of the 37” coopers, I may try them next. I wish BFG would make some tires that are true to size.
Didn’t your last set of coopers come apart on you? Or was that another brand of tire? And being from Georgia, I concur that KO2 suck really bad in mud. Really really bad.
I guess Cooper was happy that you didn't dis them too bad when your first set blew out. I'm guessing price is the answer, but why didn't you go with BFG KM3 mud-terrain?
Those new Coopers look way better, i look forward to seeing how they work out for you. When I did my lift I went with the Pro Comp Extreme MT2’s, they have been incredible. My only regret is they are terrible in slippery snow and ice but that’s not what I bought them for, made it through the winter now so back to more fun. I bought the warranty when I got them, as long as I have 50% tread or more they will replace them if they fail even if I slash open the sidewall on a rock. I’ve been doing the 5 tire rotation which is free as well as balancing for the the lifetime of the tire. Will see if I love them enough when they are worn out to buy them again. Cheers
i have stt pro 315/70/17 (35 inch) and they have roughly 30k miles on them id say and man do they rattle alot... when i turn i hear the hub rattle on rear from the roughness of the ride.
It’s funny, I just switched from STT pro tires to KO2’s. And I completely agree, the off road performance is no where near the STT pros. But as they wear down those coopers like to rattle your Jeep. I drive way too much and have the 3.8 still so I need every advantage to help that engine lug me around. It’s all about compromise, know how much you drive, and what you can sacrifice. Both tires are awesome in their respective categories. Side note, make sure your ball joints and toe are good, if not your KO2’s will only last 22k, for any tire for that matter, don’t ask me how I know...😐 Great video as always!! 😀👌🏽
I'm running Milestar Patagonia M/T 285/70r17 at $160 per tire. Only at about 800 miles with them, but they're wicked quiet on road. Haven't had a chance to get them in mud or rock, but definitely in snow. The 285/70r17 is roughly 33" in diameter, did that because they're on a JLU Sport. Don't need snapped axles or sluggish performance, plus they fit the stock wheels. Went with the Milestars because LiteBrite highly recommended them and they seem to work super well for them. I'd recommend giving them a try, but I've barely even broken them in yet! Definitely not as bad as some mud terrains I've driven on, super quiet with my soft top; I'd be they're inaudible with the hard top.
@@TrailRecon Yeah definitely will shop around more when I redo axles and go for 37s or larger. For 33s that I'm just gonna be doing some light trails the Patagonias are great. Can't wait to see how you like your new ones after you get more miles on them! Gotta agree though, that new rubber smell is second to none.
Brad, so your switch to the Cooper's is because you believe they handle better offroad? Not that there's anything wrong with them, but any plans to switch out the wheels? Will Jamie be making a guest appearance in Moab?
I've currently got over 65k miles on my Cooper 35x12.50R20 Discoverers on my 2012 Unlimited. I conservatively estimate I have another 10-15k miles before they are down to the tread bars.
@@phantomwalker8251 i don't know about other Coopers, but the STTs reviews i have seen show them to hold up well. I think they will ride nice and still have great traction offroad. Also, your vehicle can effect how tires wear. A lighter vehicle with new and aligned suspension/steering will wear better than an old 1 ton truck.
I need some advice. My Jeep (which I use primarily for hunting trips, which I do very often), have the BF Goodrich All-Terrain (I think KO2) in 31". It is a 1997 TJ Sport standard w/ a 2.5+ inch lift. I am adding a rear posi lock on Monday (can't afford electronic or I'd do both front and rear). I drive around 500 km (round trip) for each hunting trip, every 2 weeks, and do maybe 5 km off road (not rock crawling, but some crawling at times). It's mostly ice, mud and snow off road here in Southern Ontario. What would 33" tires give me? Should I upgrade? Do I need more lift then?
I liked the KO2s on most surfaces, but found them very lacking on hardpack to deep loose snow compared to similar tires. The Cooper STT Maxx and AT3s have been much better in Montana snow across an LJ, Taco, and F150. Although the Maxx doesn't wear as well as the KO2.
You just broke my BFG KO2 heart ❤️ lol just kidding you know your rig better then I do, the smell of new rubber is only second to the smell of coffee in the morning. Enjoy and see you on the trail
what a beast, I didn't know they did ko2s in 37s! surely a slightly narrower tyre (of the same tread pattern) would perform better on the rock crawls where you struggled?
