@@asianprince8718 Shibumi is a Japanese word that loosely translates to 'effortless perfection'. Anything that is Shibumi is quiet in refinement, noble and fulfilling in a manner that is not shaped exclusively by analytical thought. In Japanese culture, Shibumi implies 'a simplicity of spirit; an attitude of refinement without pretension, honesty without apology, beauty without artifice. Western mystics try to attain or achieve a state of inner peace, but shibumi must be found, not won.' Shibumi is understanding rather than knowledge, it is harmony in action. In art, it is understated beauty, articulate brevity. In philosophy, it is spiritual tranquility that is not passive; it is being without the angst of becoming.

funny story, my American dad fell in love with a Korean lady 30 years ago and so I grew up hearing him speak Korean and surprise local laundromat cleaners by communicating with them. Though he ended up marrying my mom, he would always reminisce about his time in Korea fondly and say he wanted to go back. I always thought speaking Korean was cool, so I finally had my chance to study abroad for 6 months and chose Seoul. I learned the basics and during my first month in Korea, I met my bf. His English is nearly native level, very few Korean people speak English, let alone that well, so I got lucky. Fast forward, we're still dating 5 years later and I speak high intermediate-level Korean, and no, I still don't get inside jokes and puns so there are times my bf is disappointed that he can't share memes with me. Initially, we fought a lot and had many misunderstandings but we learned how to better communicate and resolve those differences. Overall if you put in the work to learn about the culture and mentally assimilate then it's pretty nice living in Korea, you don't even feel like a foreigner after a while. There are certain downsides, however, such as needing a reliable partner as banking/taxes/laws/insurance can be tricky to understand without help, and you may end up feeling overly dependent as a result.

No girls Trina date a man from a lower income country than their country. It is natural. Easten Asia is not a melting pot that all race work together. Most of foreigners in Korea come and go. They always have to remind the fact that they might have to move to the husband's country. It is not easy to give up ur job and move to a country with lower salary. This is reality. No girls in the world usually do that. And since developed western counties are 'yet' white dominant(soon it wont be), it is natural that they usually end up marrying white guy from developed countries. Just like Japanese are at top 5 most married partner for Korean females, average income and development similarity is the key rather than ethnicity itself. No matter how they are white, you won't find many Korean girls marrying eastern European guys.

It's not a guys job to decipher if your gf is fine or not. Communication is very important no matter what country or culture. If a girl can't communicate if she's fine with something or not/how they are truly feeling. Then they should not be surprised when things don't work out. Anytime I get into any relationship I always tell my partner that Im not a mind-reader and I'm not going to sit here and analyze you 24/7, either tell me when you have an issue or this relationship isn't going to work

@Xinbaba 100 percent true. However that's not a cultural issue, that's an individualistic issue based on how you were raised. I'm a very vocal and straightforward person (which has nothing to do with my culture), my partner doesn't need to be, but what they do need to is acknowledge and accept that communication and respect are the cornerstones of any successful relationship universally. Avoidance, lack of Comms, and deflection lead to resentment, miss communication, and eventually breakups. If my partner is not used to this for whatever reason that's fine but they need to progressively and actively work on that, or else why even be in a relationship with me that I know will fail.

That's high context culture for you. Being straightforward is an invitation for argument in Eastern cultures which prefers to keep harmony for the group, because they value a group of people more than an individual. So they have to read the air and conform to somewhat rigid social norms, but it keeps general peace. It's not wrong, just different, just like western low context culture that heavily relies on verbal communication isn't wrong, just different. International couples need to make steps towards each other, it's egotistical to expect only one person to change.

For long-term relationships, the couple should share a mutual language or it'll be extremely difficult to bond. Unless the foreign guy can converse in Korean or the Korean girl can speak English, it will likely not work. The phenomenon of interracial marriage is much more prominent in the West since the language barrier is less of an issue and East Asian countries like Korea are very racially homogenous so the perception of beauty is different.

I was in Korea in the '60s when things were much different than today. But, I learned a (very) little Korean language, participated in rice planting, cabbage harvesting, visiting historical locations, etc. I really enjoyed my time there. There was a girl I liked very much back then, but I knew she would never be comfortable in the USA, and I was very direct in telling her so from the beginning. This lady was from a village just south of the northern border of South Korea and would probably not believe the people you interviewed were actually her countrymen! I work in my retirement in a senior home and met a resident there from Korea, born in the '40s. She speaks little English. Her husband has died. I guess she dated her boyfriend for decades during his visits to Korea, before they eventually married, and then she moved with him to the USA. They never had kids. Her family in Korea has all passed on from my understanding of her story. I feel so sorry for her situation. She has nobody close to her that I have noticed. I have to be very careful she does not confuse our professional relationship with a personal one. I believe that everyone has their own preferences when it comes to dating. When dating a foreigner, you must familiarize yourself with their own cultures, traditions, and beliefs. However it isn't all the time where Asian men/women are compatible with those of foreign blood, and that may be because they would have these tendencies where they would clash over some things they don't fully agree with, etcetera. Anyway, if you feel the need to be with someone who's of different origin from you, then just go for it. Who knows where it may take you.

These young women have a lot of negative things to say. I think they have absolutely no knowledge or experience with foreigners. I wanted to go on vacation to South Korea with my wife. There are many racists here in Germany, especially in East Germany. I read that South Koreans are supposed to be the fascists of Asia. We have no desire to vacation with fascists. There are even more Asian countries with open and friendly residents. So South Korea is off our vacation list.

No matter who you get together with--even from the same culture--there will be conflicts and misunderstandings, and Western women also sometimes say one thing but mean another--and many Western men complain about this! lol However, if a man and woman of different cultures find each other attractive enough to try to make a relationship and marriage work, I think both are more willing from the start to allow for those differences and try to make compromises and adjustments along the way. The fact that many international marriages seem to be happy for both partners demonstrates that this is definitely pssible if both partners are willing to do this.

Kind of like an outcast, similar to how a Westerner who loves anime and Asian culture is the weird weeaboo in America. I’m what ppl would call a black person, who understands bits and pieces of both, so it’s kind of awkward engaging the comments since I’m an English speaker who knows that it’s not really talking about me as often as it appears LoL. It doesn’t take away from the enjoyment I get out of watching your videos nonetheless!😊 (I’m aware that you can say “white guys“ because Japan and SK are less sensitive, but also… more sensitive? It’s like… It’s not universally BAD but it IS still risky and will solicit a negative response if someone makes a video in English saying “how many Korean women have dated white guys?” It’s genuinely frowned upon to bring up certain issues directly. With America being such a heterogeneous country(culturally/ ethnically diverse), the culture has learned to find more subtle ways to refer to things. Im getting ahead of myself, let me answer your question. In a formal setting, a white person would be called Caucasian, a black person will be called African-American. If I am talking to someone about you, it’s kinda ok for me to refer to you by your race, “what’s that guys name? I forgot. You know, the Asian guy?” but there are lots of times where due to American customs, I will simply PREFER to refer to you by an article of clothing you wear frequently, or a common behavior you exhibit. Western cultures tiptoe around more sensitive things, I’m not sure where you’re from but if somebody is bigger, your culture will likely call them fat, sometimes to their face! A girl doesn’t want a guy to go stay with a girlfriend who lives by their selves or constantly go places without telling you where they’re going or constantly going places without you, etc. etc., there’s no difference in a lot of that stuff is that’s not allowed in the United States either if the girl is smart! Otherwise she just might end up being used. You want Decent partner with basic good standards. The couples that are mixed backgrounds or cultures but seem to work well and have a lasting relationship seem to be able to speak each other’s language well also.

Yes, I thought a few of the things they thought as distinctly Korean were actually quite universal. I'm curious as to what kind of men these women dated. Their exes didn't sound like they world fare too well if they were dating a westerner either.

My mom married someone from Peru, couldn't speak ANY Spanish at all. Best relationship I've ever seen, it was a literal movie relationship.

I'm a foreign spouse to a Korean lady. We have been married for almost 4 years. I know it hasn't been that long but it has so far given me invaluable life experiences and lessons. Despite the language barrier (her English level is "okay", and I can only speak and understand basic Korean), we find ways to make it work. We know that communication is very very important when it comes to being in a relationship so she takes 1-on-1 English classes weekly while I practice on Korean school workbooks. Culturally, it's night and day for the both of us and we make it a point to navigate and understand each others' culture and differences to deter any miscommunication (which still happens from time to time). It's a lifelong journey of understanding and learning about a partner and it keeps the relationship exciting.

Thank you for taking your time to share your experience with Korean wife. I am glad that everything works for you both. While she improves her English day by day, you could also try to learn Korean so you can also speak to her family who don't speak English.

Good one mate. What's so important for these kinds of relationships is accepting that sometimes there is no right or wrong way, just a different ways, and being open to change. And finding things to laugh about :)

When have you ever seen American or European girls asked if they'd marry a foreign guy? It seems it's always Asian girls asked to consider foreign men.

The language barrier is my life, I am french Canadian so I have a barrier with English, but it is not so bad. My concern is much more around the delay, I like softly moment and spend my time on everything. Asian people make their career at 20 years old with four children. That is not enough romantic.

Omg...the girl who's mad about the weight comment but over there, trust me, it's a common thing to point it out directly. Even to co-workers who are not even that close to you!!! Coming back from vacation and hearing comments about your body as if it's their business. Culture isn't always an excuse for a lack of good manners and respect. Speaking from experience.
