I've found some good success 2h tanking simply raging blow / consumed by rage / endless rage. Get enrage up, 2 cleaves then refresh enrage / raging blow on cooldown. Damage intake is fine
Thanks for the guide, I really like your way of explaining. Just subscribed :). My problem is, I've read several "warrior sod tanking guides" but everyone says something different. As a newbie to tanking, this confuses me completely :(. I'm currently level 24 and I'm mainly concerned with tanking the Dungeons below the bfd raid. Biggest differences (in opinions what should be THE way to tank) I've read in all the guides so far: 1h and shield VS 2h ignore stance dance VS stance dance ignore thunderclap VS thunderclap is a must (for mob packs) neglect shouts VS shouts are the most important pull with charge VS ignore charge Then the topic of runes, every guide says something different. Rotations as well, the guides contradict each other. What would make your guide perfect would be a short summary in the sense of: Which weapon, which runes, which stance, which talents, which rotation depending on the mob scenario. Keep up the good work
People who are saying Thunderclap is a waste are prob biased since it has historically been hot garbage in classic. With the rune and the talent to reduce rage cost, it's pretty strong and also your only true aoe threat ability. Otherwise it's back to tab sundering or tab rending with the blood frenzy rune. Probably also effective so you've got options.
2h tanking is NOT an option during lvling/newcomers. Stick to 1H/shield. Charge in -> Thunderclap a pack -> rend all targets -> focus sunder stacks on primary target but balance your sunders equally on other targets Not the main kill target (ie skull can be at 2 or 3 sunders while other targets are at 1). Targets that changes to yellow signals you are about to lose threat, so keep your taunt ready and/or start attacking/applying sunders to maintain threat. Bleed+thunderclap+devastate runes are all round great start runes to get your going
That's nice. I wouldn't have any problems tanking with a protection warrior if people patiently waited for me to pull 2-3 mobs at a time and build up a little bit of aggro before they slowly engaged by single-targetting the enemy that i've attacked the most. Usually it just ends up with people pulling more mobs because they're getting impatient, while I'm trying to play whack-a-mole with the mobs that are already there to regain a little bit of aggro while I'm hardly getting any rage generation. Like, at that point you just fight an uphill battle and there's nothing you can do about it. I'm new to tanking as i've always played healer before and I thought that SoD would be a fun way to get me introduced to both classic and tanking, boy was I wrong haha. I really regret making a warrior at this point and I've hardly touched the character since i've made a mage and actually experienced genuine fun for the first time ever in classic, I had no idea the game could actually be fun and not completely stress inducing lol. Thanks for the guide though, appreciate it.
hey great video man, really helped me for my first time playing this game. I would love to also hear about your addons and how u set up your hot bar/marcos to look like it does in the video. I think this would be extremely useful as well. thank you for the great content!
I really like the video. However, I would say this leans more towards theorycrafting rather than beginner guide. Beginner guide maybe should be more focused on positioning, threat, and basic talent spec. Really good info though for long time players who aren’t super familiar with Warrior tanking.
Sorry if this is a dumb question(s), but i wasnt able to tell if you really used sunder armor on multiple mobs. Do you only reserve it for getting threat on one mob? Or is it like rend where you tab+sunder and try to give all the mobs it. Also, should i ever just wait to try to get more rage, if i have 300+ threat over the next guy should i just sit and build rage? Does being the first to attack help with gettinf aggro? I feel it does. If i lose aggro on a group of mobs, (say, a boss with 2 adds) should i try to use only aor spells (demo shout, thunderclap) or should i also use sunder since it does more threat? In fights with multiple, should i be using thunderclap as soon as i can? Sorry for the wall of text, im really getting into WoW and have fallen in love eith warrior. Would like to have some questions answered. Awesome video btw, cleared up alot about rotations and stuff. ❤
"if you really used sunder armor on multiple mobs" I try not to. I rather use rend and cleave, however I sometimes use it like I use revenge to catch up on threat or build a lead. "should i ever just wait to try to get more rage, if i have 300+ threat over the next guy" Yes, so especially on low lvl/ilvl, rage is hard to come by. only spend rage if you need to. try to ceep a rage bank, that you are comfi with. (I like to have about 20 rage or more at the start of each pack) " Does being the first to attack help with gettinf aggro" Yes it does, because iof they attack you, you generate rage - generating rage actually causes aggro (just like using a mana/rage pot) "If i lose aggro on a group of mobs, (say, a boss with 2 adds) should i try to use only aor spells (demo shout, thunderclap) or should i also use sunder since it does more threat?" Bind the hardest hiting mob with taunt spam and revenge (and sunder if you have the rage). for the other mobs it depens what they do, if they attack the healer, you have to stop them. if they attack meele dps, its not a problem. if they are meele, you want to debuff them, so they deal less dmg to your dps. (demo shout, Tclap, disarm) If its casters, they dont really matter. (you could interrupt them if you have the rage) "should i be using thunderclap as soon as i can? " Yes, its great snap threat and it debuffs the mobs. "Sorry for the wall of text, im really getting into WoW and have fallen in love eith warrior. Would like to have some questions answered. Awesome video btw, cleared up alot about rotations and stuff. ❤" No problem, thats why I´m here. This is only really for aoe and stuff so if you want to know about single target, you have to watch part two.
@@konter4323 sorry, 1 more question. If a mob goes on the healer, should I be using abilities like taunt or mocking blow to get it off the healer asap? Or should I just go over to the healer and use rend+sunder?
@@nodebuh2026 getting Mobs of the healer is number one prio even for dps, so Sometimes you also have a mage or Something in the Backline, that helps your healer. But If your group is Not that good, you really need to Stop that asap (all methods that Work are allowed :D)
@@konter4323 wow thanks for the answers so fast :) My dumbass keeps coming up with more questions. I am currently doing wailing caverns & deadlines, maybe the stockades soon. What runes would be best for a warrior who doesn't want to spec into tanking, but still wants to tank & get aggro. In addition, for something like BFD, is this type of warrior viable? Or does one need to spec specifically into DPS or tanking, with talents and runes?
You want warbringer for dungeons. The ability to charge the next pack while they are finishing up the last mob is invaluable. It keeps the dungeon moving and you get to the mobs a few cycles ahead of dps to get sunders on all mobs. Tclap is not a great aggro generator. I would rather get there first and get a sunder on each mob
first of all Tclap generates +/-100 threat on up to 5 mobs per cast. so in a mob pack of 4 mobs you need 3 globals and 45rage to get the same value with sunder. stating Tclap is not a good aggro generator is objectively incorrect.(the tooltip even says "this ability causes additional threat" times 60%from rune, times the bonus of D stance) The warbringer glyph is really good because it does not go in to the pants slot, and like you said it really helps with the pase and the threat. However you can also stun casts, get rid of roots and snares and most importantly, you generate rage. I wonder how many lvl 20s are able to pay 30 gold for a rune tho.
@@ecsanchoquestion for ya, when you tank do you use defensive stance much? You can only use TC in defensive stance right? Do you find ur generating enough threat just spamming sunders and TC?
@@cburt22ify use the TC rune and u can use it in any stance. Threat is not problem, get tidy plates threat and manage your threat, use revenge and sunders when you loose threat and taunt when u have no rage
Let me save folks watching a 30 minute video lol. Dude needs to trim down the fat if he wants to teach folks correctly. Dungeon tank: Be level 25. Use your slowest strongest two hander. Don't wear leather and have lots of stamina and strength. Always stay in defensive stance the entire time. Prepull should always start with bloodrage then battle cry then apply rend first to all mobs for aggro and rage generation. Then demo shout and thunder clap. Then spam cleave and revenge if aoe or heroic strike and revenge if single target. Refresh rend, demoshout, and thunder clap as needed. Sunder bosses to 5 always. Use taunt, sunder, and revenge when needed to pull aggro away from dps if they pump damage before rend ticks. Los casters with walls and blob up mobs for aoe damage. Use your range weapon to pull mobs don't use charge. Be aware of your party's mana and tell them when to drink. Be confident and command the dungeon, you are the leader don't let dps dictate your pace for you. Never turn your back on mobs so you can prock parry and move mobs so that your party can attack the backs of mobs to avoid mob parrys. Talents: Heroic strike 3/3, Parry 1/5, Rend 3/3, Improved Thunderclap 3/3, Deep wounds 1/3, Cruelty 5/5. Chest rune: Blood Frenzy. Pants: Furious Thunder. Gloves: Endless Rage. And as a finale note, always google a dungeon before you run it. The tank should always know what to do and where to go.
Some good information! But Not everything I wanted to tell the audience. Also, a slow two hand only makes sense in combi with instand weapon attacks, or wild strikes/wf. Otherwise it only means, that your cleave will be slower and your rage gen more spikey. Wich can make tanking more tedious. Before you get SS and Ww, I would suggest a 2.7s - 3.0s weapon, If you want to two hand Tank. wich does not increase your clear Speed btw, because you Deal Like 15dps more, wile your healer ooms faster.
Hey mate, thanks for the guide! Have you already cleared BFD as a tank warrior? Wondering what talents to use. Last stand variant or your "hybrid" with parry and the 11 points in fury?
I see you've replied to a few folks that you use WA an plater, but those can be complicated to set up. Can you walk us through how to set up the "Aggro" word, color and the point value on the mobs? Thanks!
Aggro with sunder armor and revenge, change to battle stance, use hamstring on all targets, kite mobs. Once mobs are 1/3 hp run to the next mob or pack of mobs. Warrior tank is the most fun
Hey man great video! I have a question, should I level warrior in 2 handed spec to lvl 20 and then switch to tank talent and grind 5lvls in dungs? Or leveling in dps tank talents?
Heyhey, thank you! Talents are not needed for tanking right now.(you can spec what you like) The runes are more important. Yes I would lvl in Dungeons for the last 5
@@konter4323 I didn't say it wasn't fun, I was saying in the video you imply multiple times how tanking isn't for fun, like you said DPS just wanna have fun in dungeons you can't do that as tank. I know you didn't mean it this way, However, I find that funny
@@EddatheWicca I think the word fun was only used once, and thats that dps is NOT going to have fun if you bottleneck them as a tank. I said, if you want to relax and you dont want to watch guides before going in the first time, you should brobl play dps. I know that sounds kinda rough, but nothing is so mouch negative fun like a bad tank for anyone else in the group. I think its an important information, that not everyone talks about. and I say it once more. I simply tell the viewer how to be a proper tank, if they think this doesnt sound fun, tanking in classic wow is not for them.
Do you keep threat on mages spamming living bombs and Arcane exp? Since some of them start the rotstion, panick and then run away, I feel I am chasing the mobs back more then actually tanking them. Am I doing something wrong?
If you pull more then 3 mobs with a 2hand, most healers will be oom after each pack. In that case 2hand is not worth. Healers reg mana if they dont have to cast for 5seconds
Shit guide for a new player and here is the reason. its a game. If you wanna tank just give it a shot and see how it feels dont listen to these people telling you you need to make playing wow your entire life just to tank, you dont need world buffs, you dont need consumables and its fine not reading up on every single dungeon mob beforehand. Just play the game and have fun and dont listen to what sweaty nerds tell you
hmm I think you overreacting a bit here. You can just play porpper and still have fun.. I dont see the confliction here. Its just how the game works, if you are the most buffed dude as a tank, everyone else will have a better experience. most ppl that play tank do not want to scuff the dungeon run or fail their group. I did this video only, because people came to me and ask how to be a good tank, as a new comer. so I delivered. how is watching a 10 min guide before a dungeon (you can do that wile on the way to the instance) and klicking an npc wile you are in tb displayed as: "makeing playing wow your entire life" for a lot of people, doing your job right is more fun then failing at it. the fact of the matter is, you have a responsibility as a tank (or a dps, or a healer) as soon as you enter group play.
"great" is a bit of a stretch. It was just the only thing warriors could do on this lvl or against a massive mob. now we have Tclap that is just better with the rune. however if you have like 5 mobs that get added, you still want to know about your shouts doing some decent threat on every target
In at 29ilvl 320 gearscore. Should i be tanking raids with 1h and shield in prot spec or using dual wield with raging blow + dualwield gloves rune + consumed by rage? I cant find what is best
pick what you want to be you want support use im battleshout you want to be beefy (like solo tanking and stuff)? use the prot talents. for runes you can as well kinda play what you want. you can even tank with the 2hand build rn
