From Lauren's self titled album from 2015, this became her first Number 1. Her parents were going through a divorce, she was suffering from bulimia after being shamed for her body on American Idol and her Dad was in rehab for alcoholism. Her journey to come out of all this controversy, produced this song to uplift the spirits of others who were shamed. Outstanding song with 2 banjos and a mandolin, with a magical melody and important lyrics. Amazing singer she was the runnerup on the 10th season of American Idol in 2011. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Lady Gator. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
As always Mary thanks for helping to fill in the blanks in this young woman's story. Reading about her being bodyshamed is sad. Those shows I find to be exploitive and manipulative at the best of times. She has a great voice. Take care.
Thanks Harri - a great reaction, as always! Got to see Lauren 3-4 yrs ago at The Ryman in Nashville. I’d not heard of her before that night as I don’t follow country music much these days, but I really enjoyed her live performance (including this song). She brought a couple of young girls (fans) up on the stage with her.. great interaction with them and the crowd. She has a great voice, and I really like this song/message too!
I’m prettying sure she was a runner up on the show American Idol. Great song and amazing voice. Makes this rock fan want to take another look at country music. Let’s go!
Great choice Lady Gator. I could never figure out why Lauren Alaina isn’t hugely popular by now. I think she’s wonderful and expected she would continue soaring after she won “Best New Female Artist” at the CMA’s a few years ago. Anyway, this is a great song. Thanks for the request and thank you Harri for the perfect insights. 🌺✌️
This song reminds me of my favorite poem. Robert Frost The Road Not Taken Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
