It needs only better parking and could use some entertainment outside the stadium. Inside the stadium could use a little more standing room areas or areas like the bird bath which makes the game more interactive. None of that is a fraction of the 600 million dollar cost.
I grew up going to this stadium and I love camden yards, but they could really receive some renovations. The scoreboards aren't High definition and the sound system sounds like I'm hearing uncoordinated distant echos
@chris I agree but ours is not the only perspective, and there is always those who specialize in these matters who see it from an entirely different canvas. I love OPACY as is, but like the crap changes in MLB rules, that many like, I despise them as a traditionalist (grew up on 1980's and until 1997 with awful interleague play), but grudgingly understand WHY. It is the adult in me, he has killed the excited kid that lived in my conscience.... #lifegoeson
Kinda like the Metrodome back in the day for the Twins. It was rumored that they would turn the big blower fans on when the Twins were batting and turn them off when the other team was hitting LOL
This is the only ballpark I've ever been to (in 2019), but honestly keeping it in its 90s configuration would probably be better, it's not seriously ageing amenities-wise and being the first of its kind it really should honour that
Restaurants and bars will likely quadruple (perhaps more) the cash flow for that business segment and swallow the surrounding competition. What's next? A "Swing and a Miss" corridor with baseball-themed slot machines.
I heard the new owner say that any renovations won’t be to modernize the look just to update and modernize the amenities, he says he loves the original look and would never want to change it.
The PA/Audio in the stadium needs to be upgraded. Plus they need an updated/bigger center field scoreboard. The rest can come over time. Those are the two things they need first. I was just at a game early May and I couldn't hear a word the PA person was saying.
Well deal with it because renovations are going to happen either that or eventually you end up like the Oakland A’s with a sh*t hole stadium and the team leaves for another city.
@@tomdiets5079 the difference is the stadium in Oakland was a shit hole when it opened and they never did even the basic upkeep of the stadium but to make it worse, they added a giant wall of seats to get the raiders back. That is not even close to true in the case for Camden. It was perfectly built from the get go and criticize Peter all you want but did a fantastic job of making sure the stadium was well maintained. Upgrades are for parks that suck and haven’t been maintained. Other than a few little things here and there(mostly not with the stadium itself) it’s the perfect place to watch a game.
It only cost $110 million to build that darn thing. This public funding has to come to an end. There’s not a thing wrong with Camden Yards after 32 years.
The scoreboards are dated. The announcers box is garbage. The overall sound system is terrible. They should cut a lot of upper decks out, especially left field
I severely doubt that all of those things will be a part of a future renovation there, especially sense the article he was referring to came out before the new ownership took over, and I would believe that the new group has some different ideas on what to do with the place.
MLB stadiums are going the route of 32K fixed seats. It makes more financial sense to have less bad seats at stadiums and have more gathering/standing room concession areas. People spend more $$$ this way.
There is this under-monetized space in every ballpark. its dimensions are 90‘ x 90‘ x 90‘ x 90‘ only one player consistently uses it. Can we build a restaurant there? We will just put the player, I think he’s called a pitcher, on some sort of gogo dance mound and he can throw from there, from the middle of the restaurant. This sounds like such a moneymaking opportunity.
Currently in Baltimore to watch my O's in Camden Yards, traveling from Alberta Canada .... Camden Yards is amazing, if anything add a 300 level bar in left centre field, other than that Camden Yards is a perfect ball park. GO O's!!!
As a Baltimore native, I sat in the upper deck for the first time last year. We were so bad for so long i remember buying $8 upper deck seats and sitting wherever we wanted. A bar in left field that is always closed would be awesome. Especially because tickets are much more expensive now. lol I’d pay cheap seats to sit up there at a bar any day
@@ifmacfie you can still get cheap seats in the 300 section for under $10, especially during the week, just make sure you get to the stadium early and quickly grab a spot standing and leaning on the rail in right field, it's a great spot to watch the game from with a great chance of catching a home run as long as you don't mind standing the entire game; that's what I've done a few times on my trip down right now
@@chrismac5560 for sure. But i feel like nowadays sitting lower level with upper deck tickets isn’t as easy as it was. Trust me I’m not complaining that we’re actually good now. But an O’s game used to be a cheap date night. I agree though. Depending on who we’re playing, a weekday game against the white Sox…i could probably sit wherever i want.
My first games were at Memorial Stadium, and then most of my years were spent at Camden Yards. Both stadiums are close to my heart. I live near Pittsburgh so go to PNC often and the one thing that I love about PNC that OPACY doesn’t have is the ability to go to concessions and be able to still see the game. I think that has to be the first thing that needs to be resolved. Regarding the seats in Left Field and down the Right Field line, I’m totally on board with turning those into common areas (bars/restaurants). I hate seeing them empty. Other than that, I wouldn’t do too much. OPACY is such an awesome stadium and it stands on its own. One thing I would encourage, although I know it won’t happen, is to implode the Hilton beyond LF, because it took away the sight of downtown Bmore. Namely the Arts Tower.
Look I am all in on upgrades. but not at the cost of destroying the ballpark beauty. Oriole Park at Camden yards is one of one gem. I hope they don't destroy that.
Great videos! Been watching for a while, and I don’t know why I was never a subscriber! Appreciate your honest detailed look at topics that are very interesting to me very well presented. Keep them coming!
32 Years old and still one of the best ball parks in MLB. All it needs is a new scoreboard. and updated sound system . People go to watch baseball not dine out!
They are probably going to think twice about removing the left field upper deck seats, because already in this season the fans are starting to take those seats... At last nights game the attendance was 38, 500 & fans were in the left field upper deck a bit & in the last six Baltimore is getting 30, 000 a game... Avg for year so far is around 26, 000 & Baltimore gets hotter att wise when summer comes & school lets out... So, when summer comes... the left field upper deck will probably get fannies in it much of the time except when Oak, KC and the like come to town... & of course, that 2, 000 or so seats are a lot of revenue come playoff time & this team should be playoff bound for at least the next five years... It looks like the Orioles will avg over 30, 000 this year, which means those seats unlike in places like Cleveland will be sat in...
Just to clear something up, the ravens have only spent something like $200 million of the funds for M&T Bank. This year they’re adding field level suites and next year I believe new video boards are being
The bleachers are great seats. People sit there every game because there are so few of them. The bar/restaurant thing is ridiculous. There’s an area on TOP of the batters eye now that’s a hangout area. The entire batters eye should be demolished, there’s a bunch of dead space out by the bullpens, and there’s a building behind it where the hangout area is. This would work if they’re going to reconfigure/remove/shift the bleacher area.
I went to college in Baltimore and loved Camden Yards. Boogs BBQ was the only restaurant in the whole stadium. The concession stands were mediocre except for Attmans Deli. This ballpark really could use 5 actual restaurants.
It has been a long time since I went to Baltimore or to the ballpark. When I went to Baltimore with friends we usually had a beer or two in the ballpark. We planned on eating at a restaurant around the inner harbor. I knew I was getting crab cakes or some other seafood. For more drinks we took the ferry to Fells Point and listened to music. Granted I was the only Oriole fan in my group. Still if you spend 2.5 hours there or so I feel its time for something else. Would not hang in the bars in the ballpark.
Fewer seats means lower supply. That typically triggers higher demand and higher seat prices. Adding standing room only gives more people to restaurants and common areas.
If the teams can feel proud about playing in Wrigley and Fenway, they can be even more proud playing in Camden Yards..Those modifications should already have been done,it makes sense to add modern twists for the fans…Word gets around about the new additions ,gets good vibes and eventually more fans..It’ll pay for itself..
The players came up with the idea to have the bird bath and since the day it opened, has sold out every game. They don’t need to tear out seats for more freaking restaurants. They need to invest in making the game fan friendly again. How about smoking sections instead of having ushers harass the fans and even having guards forcefully remove mostly teenagers vaping etc. if they want attendance to rebound fully they need to start listening to the fans who stopped going instead of listening to out of touch rich people.
@@Tank4Life they don’t allow it on the premises at all. They used to have a smoking section that was technically outside the stadium but was inside these gates to make it so there was no one sneaking in. It’s not just the not having a place for smokers, it’s the militant harassment of the fans smoking or non smoking. It’s gotta stop. I’m a non smoker never even touched a cigarette in my life and have been personally harassed. I had a friend who was eating a hot dog nearly be thrown out of the game “for smoking” it’s utterly ridiculous. The general treatment at concessions and the frowning on people actually cheering at the games has gotten out of hand over the years.
Are people playing attention to what baseball is doing. They are eliminating seats bc they can't sell tickets....then when a team gets good charge double if not triple bc there is high demand yet not enough seats. The people of Baltimore should say no
Finally someone realized this, I saw this when Citi Field opened significantly smaller than Shea Stadium. It’s a ruse to rob fans through ticket pricing. The thing about these bar areas that people don’t realize is they only work financially with a good economy,if the economic outlook in America starts to look even bleaker than it is now fans are not going to be caring about being robbed to even pay for a ticket and now pay for overpriced drinks also. But all sports especially baseball are terrible at fan service.
@richiemartinez8078 not only that but when you make community areas it blurs the lines of objective and subjective attendance. When you have seats. That aren't being filled everyone can see it. When you have large patio areas with some people you can't determine if it's full or not. It's a slight of hand they are doing with attendance
I don’t think all this will happen like the center feild bar or expanding the flag court I definitely do think the left feild upper deck does get renovated as well but we will see
Sounds like trying to turn it into a food park, but the stadium doesn’t usually sell out, so if it gives people more food options, why not? These high-level guys only buy wholesale so it’s not going to cost as much as it might seem.
As someone who lives in Denver and goes to a fair amount of Rockies games, the best thing they ever did to Coors Field was put in the bar/social spaces in the upper deck in right field. That thing is PACKED every night, even if the rest of the stadium is sparce. No one ever sat up there, unless it was a sellout prior to the renovation to add the rooftop bar.
I don't think need that much to do a remodel. They dont need to take out that many seats didnt think they had attendance issues from few pics didnt look like it and doing good lately
Here's my gripe for the day.The oil is rumored to be giving up kobe mayo and enrique bradfield junior for miller the reliever closer from oakland that will be the Most ignorant trade ever done. You got mckenna and cowser erauis And mateo you could give up for a closer
I believe Camden is fine as is, BUT ours is not the only perspective, and there are always those who specialize in these matters who see it from an entirely different canvas. I love OPACY as is, but like the crap changes in MLB rules, that many like, I despise them as a traditionalist (grew up on 1980's and until 1997 with awful interleague play), but grudgingly understand WHY, and the same applies to stadiums. Let's go one step farther: those who hate public funding are likeky not old enough to remember the Colts departure, and the drunk ramblings of Robert Irsay on television (a huge deal in 1984). Yes, the MSA (Maryland Stadium Authority) SAVED the Orioles. Thank William Donald Shaffer and Herb Belgrade.... It is official, the kid in me is dying and the adult is fully in charge 😩 #lifegoeson
Disgraceful the state paying for it, the teams can afford to do it, and if not they can sell revenue share in the additional businesses the city having to pay to build on/around the stadium. But then awwww the owners would make less money.
@@patrickwagner6247I wonder if they can also improve the look of the fence at the Bird Bath Splash Zone by the bullpen. Just painting it black might be enough to make it less of an eyesore.
Yeah because Baltimore has so much money to spend on an unnecessary stadium upgrade that hey can give it to a cheap ass owner, who won't even spend money on their own lineup.
When did parking lots become obsolete, how the tf are all these people getting to the games? Sofi Stadium has huge amounts of parking and it doesnt take away the amazing look of the Stadium or feel like its lacking a district. I think all these future ballpark districts will be a waste of parking and money
Yeah, how many restaurants - with lousy and expensive food? We had two roast beef sandwiches (lousy!) with chips (even lousier, lol), two twelve-ounce cokes at Boog’s, club level last Friday night - $57.24! Could have had a MUCH better, MUCH cheaper meal at McDonald’s before paying $17.00 to park OTHER of the Ravens’ stadium. The alternative restaurant (on the club level) was $80.50 (plus tax maybe?), all-you-can-eat, all game (they said). We passed (we’re big guys, but not grizzly bears who haven’t eaten in a month, lol). I remember as a kid, hot dog AND coke for twenty-five cents, 😳. Cut the lousy restaurants and $500 million from the renovations. And heh, maybe the new multi-billionaire owner could foot the other $100 million. Same with the Ravens!
Is there a field to play on? Are there seats or bleachers to sit in? Is there a fence with a gate so you can charge money? THEN EFFING PLAY AND SHUT UP!
PNC Park's batter's eye is the one bad thing about the park, and he wants to emulate it? If you are going to emulate a great batter's eye, copy Progressive Field.
