I don't think the logo was ever really the problem, it was the name, which could be considered a slur. If they were called the Washington Warriors or the Washington Braves, I think they would have kept the name and logo.
The Braves would never change their name. The oldest professional franchise in major league baseball. Changing the name would be disasteous for attendance and fan support. Plus, there is nothing wrong with the name Braves.
@@MrBenitez823 Bud, the Reds are the second oldest team. The original Red Stockings is not the same franchise as the one on the field today. The Braves are the longest running active franchise in MLB.
THANK YOU!!! I've been saying the same thing since 2020. Most close minded people will never believe that, though. They are too brainwashed by the media and believe all of the propaganda that they put out. It's finally nice to see someone else knows what's really going on.
Couldn't agree more about who is actually insulted by the old name. I worked with a native American. His truck reflected his heritage with lots of native American stickers. He loved the Redskins and can't stand the name change. He considered them "his team". He wears many Redskin tees and hats to this day. It was a sense of pride for him. He told me that no one in his community was ever offended and was upset at the "woke" mob who wanted to be offended for them. "Bullied" is spot on!
A lot of people don't realize why they were named Redskins in the first place. They were named after a Native American tribe but the name had nothing to do with race. It was a tribe from the Virginia/West Virginia/ Washington DC area. The reason that tribe was called the Redskins is because they actually painted their faces red when they went into battles. It had nothing to do with race at all. The people who complained about it and said it was racist are the most racist people of all as well as being extremely ignorant and uneducated when it comes to the subjects they complain about. On top of that the Washington Redskins used to donate money to that tribe every single year. Now they don't because they aren't named after them anymore. The people who complained about the name actually ended up costing Native Americans a lot of money by getting the name changed. They hurt the people they claimed they were trying to help by getting the name changed. Either way the main point is the name had nothing to do with race. They were named that after a local tribe who actually painted their faces red hence the name "Redskins." Their skin was red because they painted it that way. Not because of some racial epithet.
The team came from Boston originally. They were called the Boston Braves in honor of the baseball team that they also shared the same stadium with. Do more research on this subject
@@ronbrown7941 They didn't change their name to Redskins until they were in Washington. What's your point? They had a different name when they were in Boston? Of course they did.
@@j.r.bladorn4120I honestly wonder when that became their definition. Because they've had a recent history of changing definitions under the radar to fit a current social narrative. If thats been their definition since 1960 then fine
I don't think the black lives matter movement had anything to do with the name change don't understand how they came up in this conversation I thought it was certain native Americans groups that had an issue with the name correct me if I'm wrong but I would like to see bring back the name redskins and Cleveland bring back the name Indians
They are the owners, and can certainly do that. However, that is separate from a decision of Congress to gift land owned by you and me to the district for their own use.
Can Neo RFK Stadium be rebuilt for the National Football League’s Washington Commanders(Redskins), Major League Rugby's Old Glory DC, and United Football League's DC Defenders since the original RFK Stadium and FedEx Field gets demolished in 2026-2030?
I think if push comes to shove, we can keep the name if we must, but go back to the old logo. The Chief is the "Commander" of the tribe. The logo was iconic.
If they don’t go back to that logo (in order to avoid the offended by everything crowd) then they could create a new logo with something that pays homage to the commander in chief, could be something like a group of people with swords or a George Washington holding a football in one hand and a sword in another hand. Anything at this point even if what I suggested may sound cheesy would be better than what’s going on with that plain W right now.
Didn't FedEx threaten Dan Snyder that they would remove the naming rights and funds for his stadium if he did not drop the name Redskins? Now, it's ironic that the stadium no longer bears its name.
If the logo returned, I would accept the team again. I LOVED the logo, still do. The logo has great meaning to me as someone who is part Native - my father was born and raised on the Turtle Mt. Band of Chippewa - Ojibwe.
As a person with Native American blood and heritage I loved the name and logo. I was a fan for about 40 years. What was offensive was they were losing.
I can't really speak for Native Americans, but I'm sure they are more concerned about issues they are facing daily than a sports team nickname - that I believe most of them either Like or Don't Care about that nickname.
@@joeylawn36111 maybe I have thicker skin than some people but me and my family loved the Redskins, we used to go to the games and met players when we were lucky.
I think the best thing would have the Redskins uniforms and logo come back as a throwback jersey like the Titans bring back the Oilers uniforms. I don’t think you can bring the actual name back ever again because of the backlash it would receive if it ever returned. It sucks that historic team names like the Redskins and Indians got replaced, as they’re likely never coming back. All we can really do know is do what we can to prevent other classic team names like the Chiefs, Braves, and Blackhawks fall to social pressure as well.
Work an agreement with Native American tribes. The team gets it’s old logo back and the Natives maybe get free tickets to games/free food/ and merchandise
"Redskins" is not a "slang term for Native Americans" lol. It's an indigenous synonym for "warrior." The term comes from their use of the bloodroot plant to paint their skin before going into battle.
I hope they bring back the logo. I'm part Cherokee Indian on my moms side and I was okay with the Redskins but yeah....I get it. Just bring the logo back at least...I'm all in for this team.
I wish they'd pick a name closer to Redskins like Guardians is to Indians. Back when they were taking suggestions I submitted Residents. It pays tribute to the original residents of DC- the Native Americans, as well as the "taxation without representation " residents. It keeps the HTTR chant and the R logo plus it's as close to Redskins as you can get.
I find it hilarious when people get in the comments saying the Redskins name and logo will NEVER EVER return. Like you know exactly what's going on behind the scenes. You are NOT rubbing elbows with the owners. All you can do is speculate. As for me, I think it's very possibly that we get the name and logo back. From all of the things that have been going on since the Harris group has takin over, I will not be surprised in the least, if we get the name and logo back.
I love your ideas and perception on the name change ideas and logo and understand where the shift of the conversation is going. but as a Cherokee American I will say… Honor the teams name and heritage and Native American heritage with an UPLIFTING name such as the Warriors, or Even simply AMERICANS. Keep the historical symbolism, all while starting a new era of Washington Football we can all be on board with and proud of. Let’s honor the history of the team and location in order to gratify the AMERICANS not the just the TEAM and ESPECIALLY not the ownership or NFL. We can all be warriors regardless of color or name. Could possibly do a modern throwback feel with the logo w/ the feathers and number marks but bring in a new team name that’s amazing and one america can be proud of as well as one that will transcend the future, honor the past while leading us forward out of the past for the present and the future.
My prediction is they will change the colors to red, white, and blue to go along with the other DC teams and have a logo that will make them more like the Patriots 2.0
In my opinion, sports teams named after Native peoples were named in honor of their brave spirit, and not meant to be racist in any way. With the exception of the previous Cleveland Indians Chief logo. I really hope that all this woke B.S. ends soon. Probably just wishful thinking though😟
As a eagles fan. Bring back the redskins. Or atleast call then the warriors or the braves, which to my knowledge that was their name back in the 30s. But that solution would be so much better than the football or commanders mess we witnessed for 5 years. No one like the name and it have no connection to the past.

"I am Native American and had asked for the change of logo because I was offended. Said Never." But now I feel discriminated against since ya changed it because that isn't inclusive. I no longer have a team to identify with. 😜
As a long-time REDSKINS fan, I say bring back the logo, and do a fan poll to change the name to another name that honors Indigenous Americans. I wouldn't mind Warriors.
Not 'Generals' IMO, but only because the Washington Generals are a basketball team that serves as an opponent for the Harlem Globetrotters, and usually lose to the latter.
@@timothyholland2927they probably wouldn’t use Warriors anyway given from what I’ve read. Some consider that offensive too. Some think it’s to close to a Native American reference.
Northern Virginia is not going to be the site of the Commanders new home as the cost of land there is outrageous. It’s all committed to very high cost development. Great for extreme price homes, office buildings bad for a stadium used only 9 to 10 times by the Commanders.
You ever notice why black Americans were never offended by the Redskins name? Because we know, George Preston Marshall(team owner) knew and the US government knows who the real American Indians are, us. We are aboriginal to this land, not native!!! 300,000 slaves brought to our land over 400 years is less than 800 humans a year, the math doesn’t add up. George Marshall had the mascot emblem shown on players helmets to accurately match what true American Indians look like. "Cooper-colored" people of America!!! 1828 Webster's Dictionary def. of an American. Read it.
Bring back the old name, call the new stadium “Native People’s Stadium”, and make it a monument to all the native peoples of the US. Honor them at every home game. And give all the remaining tribes a stake in the team.
If the logo is return and the name should change, then its name should be Warriors. It was suppose to be that name and not Commanders, that name wasn’t trademarked at all!
That was what I thought, that it was an actual person which turned from an actual portrait to a more "easy to turn into a logo" image. And an actual person in war garb IIRC
I would instantly become a huge fan of the Washington Whiteys. Instead of, "Hail to the Redskins," it would be, "Hail to the Whiteys." It would be an epic fight song. 🎶 Hail to the Whiteys. Hail victory. Whites on the warpath. Fight for ole DC!🎶
I always felt it was odd that, when it came down to political correctness, the most politically connected city had the most politically incorrect name! I could give up on Redskins if they could come up with a better name. Not sure what that better name is though. It's definitely not Commanders, and not Red Wolves either. Maybe something regional? IDK. Old Redskins logo really wouldn't make sense if they are staying away from being called Redskins. Could go with the same logo but the "R" in the circle ... or maybe not. IDK. Current logo looks like bent sheetmetal. Old RFK site is a sweet site to get back to, for multiple reasons. My $0.02.
As a Cowboys fan, I want to see Washington bring back the name Washington Redskins. Since they were forced to change their name to the Washington Football Team and then to now as the Washington Commanders, that rivalry between Dallas and Washington just isn’t the same anymore. It was an iconic rivalry between Cowboys and Indians and Washington should give the die hard Washington fans what they want and bring back the name Washington Redskins and bring back their old uniforms and the logo.

Meet with Tribe councils establish a new connection and let the tribes pick a name that everyone can vote on. The logo was never a problem from the vast majority - neither was the name really if you look at the american indians numbers opinions on it. = thats why you never had hundreds of protesters at Washington / Chiefs games in hot bed majority tribal areas eg Arizona. Keep logo - let the tribes pick a few team names = let everyone vote on the final team name?
I have no problem with them going back to the old logo. The logo didn't offend me... The name "Redskins" did. It won't matter what they do they'll still lose to the Dallas Cowboys!!! 😅😅😅😂
