Please never ever change your intro music. For some reason it brings me back 12 years and feel nostalgic. Not only that but your whole channel is amazing. You have an amazing voice to.
you know MadSeasonShow your vids about the old world of warcraft make my day. So many great momories and things a I didn't even know. you are a great youtuber!
I remember hearing about plainsrunning in 2005 and the long-standing myth about it at the time was that Tauren players in beta would get on all four legs like Worgen and run around. Pretty amusing mental image.
One more thing about the rested experience system - I heard that back then, tired/exhausted xp was removed and replaced with normal xp just as a psychological measure. Players don't like to be punished for playing the game, so they still got the same amout of xp, but it was framed differently.
The so-called Blackwater Auction House was a linked auction house system for the four goblin cities: Gadgetzan, Everlook, Ratchet, and Booty Bay. I don't know when it was implemented, or if it also started off unlinked, but during vanilla, it was the only way for Alliance and Horde characters to trade, and it was a great way to unload your fancy greens and trade goods when you're far from your capital cities. (Just remember that the deposit fee and the market cut were much worse!) At some point many years later, the Blackwater Auction House got merged into the faction auction houses, and then into the unified auction house we have today. Makes me wish that those goblin towns were full-fledged cities in their own right. Also makes me wish goblin towns introduced in later expansions, like Area 52, were new factions of the Steamwheedle Cartel and just as interesting and involved as the four goblin factions of vanilla.
For a short time there was a bug that would cause her to attack warlock pets (and maybe hunter pets?) causing my 35'sh lock to get flagged for pvp at some of the worst times. Ah good times :)
Patch History videos are the best! I spend a lot of time on reading the notes, but hearing it with actual video content can't beat that. Keep it up man!
I got to r1 in this game by being a serious pvper. But that's not what initially made me enjoy the game. It wasn't serious 3s or hardcore raiding, it was actually the leveling experience and the social community; it made u feel living in a better world than the shitty one we irl. Thumbs up if u agree :P
If I recall correctly shaman originally also used bucklers, but were upgraded to shields when they combined bucklers and shields removing them from rogues and hunters. Some of the quest rewards for shields at release still reflected notably lower defense for their level as a throwback to having been bucklers originally.
OMG I was going to say the same damn thing about an auction house for each city. I KNOW this was the case. I remember it and I was surprised when you said they took it out before release. MANDELA EFFECT!?
You could make good money trading between SW/IF to Darn, there were quest items and materials needed for that zone. However most people traded in SW, you could actually be a traveling merchant moving items between the city’s.
How do you get such smooth scrolling with your videos? I'm trying to get a similar type of scroll in some of my videos, but when I'm recording myself playing the game for my video footage the movement is choppy. Not because of GPU limitations, but because the mouse movement is choppy. Is there a setting I'm not aware of? This is my favorite series by the way. Keep going with these. They're awesome.
I’ve played on and off since early wrath and cannot play the game without click to move. I’m pretty sure about 10-20% of players use it. CtM players raise your voices!!
Hey mate. Saying g’day from Australia. Something I want to say real quick. I’ve been dealing with depression for a while now and on my bad days these videos always give me an escape to something familiar. The way you discribe things, and the music and effort you put into your videos offer me a time to switch off and relax and remember some of my fondest memories from back in the day. These videos low-key keep me going on some of my hardest days. A massive thank you for the effort you put into producing these and sharing some of your memories. Please keep it up, it means a fair bit to me. Peace :)
1:19 the person writing the chat types "WTS [Major Rejuvenation Potion]x3 Please pst me a tell" So technically speaking they have written "WTS [Major Rejuvenation Potion]x3 Please please send tell me a tell Its the same as someone saying go to the ATM machine Automatic Teller Machine Machine
Maybe you just travelled from Stormwind/Ironforge to BB for the neutral AH? I most definitely did that because people tended to post undervalued items on the (much less viewed) neutral AH. I remember getting a Titans flask for 2g on there (probably because someone mistook it for a Limited invulnerability potion with the same icon)
Dear madseason show. What i sure remember in the early days, there used to be a single AH per faction. IF for alliance and Org. For horde. Love your videos. You are by far my favourite streamer
That really is the insane thing, that WoW was originally meant to be catered to the most casual players, as well as more serious ones. It was actually the case as well, because my guild was casual and there were plenty of ultra-casual low skill players that reached cap. If that's the way it was then-- what does it say about modern WoW which is leagues beyond that? A game should never have content that effectively completes itself, as in any non-mythic gameplay.
So, I hope someone sees this. A friend of mine got me into playing WotLK in a private server a couple of years ago. I played for a month or so , but september came and college with it, so yeah... I really loved it and wanted to play official, but being an student, time and that monthly payment were "nono" for me. Until know, I am actually graduating and I already have a good job offer on the table, so, when the summer comes, do I play current or classic? btw MadSeason is a huge part of the reason I am going to start playing! I love your channel.
@@borjallacersanz5669 if you want you can try bfa too, with a sub you'll be able to play both. But man, 25€ for a flying pig mount? 25€ for a ghostly fox mount? Character transfer/race change 25€. Faction change 30€. Name changes/pets 10€. Instant level 110 was like 30€. Remember, this is a game where you need to pay 12€ every month and 30€ for the expansion. And the new expansion is almost content-less.
Yes Auction houses were originally unlinked. Eventually they linked them BUT the neutral auction houses were still separate for obvious reasons. I am pretty sure the neutral action house is gone now tho
I remember the unlinked AH's from very early in Vanilla. It was changed pretty quickly afterwards. But thats what helped Ironforge become the major over Stormwind. SW was great, but its AH wasnt as massively populated as the IF one was. IF ended up sort of "sticking" as the main hub even after they linked them.
That, and being so close to both Blackrock Mountain and Menethil. I'm still surprised on private servers to see folks in Stormwind; used to it being pretty underpopulated in vanilla.
@@erdrickcapet3945 oh yeah thats a good point, the quick proximity to boats that take you across to the other continent probably contributed a lot too.
Also the lack of global chat for LFG meant people congregated there to find groups (this could be skipped if you knew how to remotely join chat channels for other zones though, but very few people knew how)
Ah that sap instance reminds me of when I was playing vanilla back then, one of my friend dedicated his whole free time just to level an ally night elf rogue in my server and following me around sapping me for pure troll fun. Good ol’ days
Another great video, as always - thanks MadSeason! Just a personal wish imma throw out there: I'd love if you made a 'Classic/Vanilla' video where you go over the looks and animations of each race and both genders, and maybe throw in some end gear for each spec! This would mean a lot to me since I'll have just one character and spend so many hours with it, and no one has made a video like this. But if you never read this comment I'll love you and your content as always, have a good one!
The first thing that came to mind, when you mentioned the unlinked AH, was "Oh my god... i remember that! It was a long *** trip going to Darnassus because the IF AH didn't have what I was looing for."... So yeah, they were definitely a thing and very much hated. On a more important note: when are we getting a video without the (soothing) monotone voice and a Arnold impression for 30mins. instead?! Asking for a friend.
They were rereleased unlinked then quickly patched to be linked. Azshara Crater was scrapped (It was going to be another 40man) Because they were already having problems balancing Alterac.
LEET BOOBS hell yeah :) And yeah, each city wasn't linked. You could list something in Org and nobody could see it if they checked the AH in Undercity. The goblin towns also had neutral AHs with a higher AH cut because of the greedy goblins.
I could be wrong, but I swear I remember seeing alliance and horde camps in Azshara but they only had boxes and banners, no npcs. Could have just been remnants of the zone being left unfinished cause they didn’t have those BG tunnel caves, but I was always like “it must be for Azshara crater!” When I was younger
So...it's been about a month since the last Patch video, just saying ;) Whether we get it next week or in April, I will be excited either way (but please don't make me wait that long lol). This is a great review for me. I remember watching the official website for months before release, imagining what class I would play, reading through the patch notes even though I wasn't in the beta. Then, one day, I saw that they were having their first open beta, so I signed up that very second. Only to spend almost 3 solid days downloading the game over dial-up lol! I made it to about level 12 on my beta Human Paladin, clearing out the entirety of Elwynn but getting stomped by the Harvest Golems in Westfall, loving every second of it. There was then only a day or so left in the beta so I rolled an Orc Warrior just to see a new zone and try a different class. Fortunately I logged back onto my Human just before going to bed, so I got to see a massive Infernal just wrecking everything in the open beta-pocalypse. I was hooked, no doubt. While BfA has gotten a bit stale and repetitive for me lately, I still sub every so often to catch up on the story. Classic will be the same for me I think, pretty casual, but I am so glad they are finally doing it. Thanks for all the Classic videos, yours are the best I have come across. There are far too many over-hype, scream casting RU-vidrs out there, so finding your relaxed and detailed content is a great breath of fresh air.
Would love to see a video/hear your thoughts of Activision not even considering Classic a major release. Maybe I'm being too hopeful, but I really hope the relaunch of classic explodes with old and new players and just shows blizz/activision how much down the wrong path they've been going in their direction with their games.
Its interesting: 50% tired and 100% normal exp would make people rage... I get that, but 100% normal and 200% rested is the exact same ratio. People are odd lol
I confirm the unlinked auction houses in vanilla! As a mage I travelled to Thunder Bluff to check! There was very little compared to Orgrimmar, but deals could be found.
ROFLMAO I remember when I first encountered the "Rest" on my 1st character ever and I tried "/sleep", "/lay", "/rest" in many of the beds or floor mats in the game... I was so clueless and none of my friends wanted to tell me what it meant. Legit thought my character was tired and needed rest...
_Plainsrunning!_ I had forgotten about that. Shame they removed it since it made the taurens unique. And had they kept the bucklers rogues would have been more ...wholesome. Good times.
Paused at 2:12 - I was confused when you said that they removed separate auction houses before full release because I too remember that they were separated for quite some time. I started playing in October of 2005 (EU). I remember being so happy to be playing a mage at that time and all of my friends were happy too because of the portals. (Having teleport to towns was actually the main reason I chose mage class as my main - I had a hunch traveling would take up a lot of playing time :) ).
Still kind of bummed out that they took bucklers away from Rogues and Hunters, would have been cool to see how that would have evolved. Great video once again MadSeason, looking forward to more. Thanks.
Amazing video yet again, how do you find all this information? Like i know alot but you know soooo much more lol. Do you have a discord or something where your fanbase can chillout? Would be super fun :).
rolled undead and had no idea how to get to orgrimmar, so I was told about the auction house by a friend by about level 20. yes, i leveled to 24 with only junk drops and quest rewards, without ever stepping foot into org. can confirm there was no AH in undercity. but berenstein/stain moment: not sure if i was remembering beta or vanilla.
I swear that only IF and ORG had AH through all of Vanilla but can't find anything on that. I can't even find when they were re-added, as you said they were taken out in .9 leaving just the two. I had the same bearenstein thought.
I'm really curious as to know how old you are. Don't take any offense here but your voice could either be 23 or 53, and it's bugging me that I don't know!
Unlinked auction houses is how Ironforge became the main hub were everyone hung out. It was the most central place. And Darnasus AH became the place were you could instantly trade things to different characters. I remember a friend telling me he would troll the AH in Darnasus to try and nab something for 30 copper that someone was trying to give to another toon on the same account. He had some pretty amazing gear lol
2:00 huh? if you know all auction houses (of a faction) all got linked together in 1.9 then how are you confused about whether they were unlinked before that? obviously they must have been. they definitely were though. I distinctly remember before that everyone only used the AH in ironforge because all the other ones weren barren a.f. so 1.9 was a very welcome patch for that alone.
I thought there was a hunter class quest in Ashara. I remember being there with my hunter (this was in Burning Crusade mind you). And yeah I miss class quests, even the annoying ones. I painstakenly got all the totems for my shaman, even the water one. As for the hunter quest I remember having to tame a tough creature/animal or maybe it was to kill that animal. I just remember having to use my scare beast skill to help me out with it.
i also remember traveling between cities checking the AH for different items, i was also 6 or 7 during vanilla so i cant remember if the AH's actually had different items, but i do remember checking the org AH then going over to TB to check things
