This is, in my humble opinion, the absolute BEST Super Bowl Halftime performance... EVER! Prince was the epitome of "great artist." He gave every performance...110%, no matter what.
Any other "artists" would have complained about the rain and cancelled, but Prince didn't care about the rain, in fact, we wanted it to rain harder! Woohoo!!
This was performed in a torrential down pour!! They were unsure if they should go ahead with the halftime show due to the rain and safety concerns, when they asked Prince what he thought, his response was "Can you make it rain harder?"
This was truly a legendary performance. Singing in a downpour, playing an electric guitar, on a very smooth stage, with the twins dancing in 4 inch spike heels... E.P.I.C. !!!
The sign he is standing on was his name for many years. He had problems with his record label so that sign was his name. Also known as the artist formally known as Prince
And he trademarked the symbol, which doesn't have a defined sound. If a paper wants to use the symbol, they have to pay him a fee. Just to make life hard for the record label. A bit genius. :) "the artist formerly known as Prince" was used by media outlets who weren't willing to pay for a character they can't say on TV. Not against the rules because nobody thought of it before...
@@CaptainNice They needed to introduce him, in some way when he was on a show or an interview. I don't believe the symbol has a sound or was called anything. I guess they could have introduced him as the man with no name.
Yay! My musical daddy! I saw him live at 6 years old back in 1988 and he inspired me not only to be a multi-instrumentalist and a band leader but definitely inspired me to be an universal black rock musician.
As a massive music lover i've shown my daughters tons of videos and live performances from all sorts of genres. They've seen Queen at Live Aid, Nirvana unplugged, the BB King show where he fixes his guitar in the middle of the song, all the best. There has never been any doubt between us that Prince at the super bowl is the best live performance of all time.
His death, like MJ, and many others when they were young...Patsy Cline, John Lennon, Janis Joplin, Curt Cobain, Hendrix, Pete Ham(Badfinger) Such a waste of extreme talent.
I have to cry with this film. Prince was a great musician, a beautiful man and above all a very good, warm, lovable person. I have known him since my youth (born in 1969), but only after his death did I really become aware of his quality.
Best halftime performance ever. Prince was an absolute BAD ASS! Beyond a genius with that priceless sexy walk. Yes he opened the scene of validating “it’s okay to be different” and to add he played 27 instruments all self taught!

I am not taking anything away from Michael Jackson. However, when MJ was up against Prince for Grammys, Prince beat Michael most of the time. When it comes to song writing, Prince had more depth and variety. When it comes to dancing, I prefer Prince. This Super Bowl concert is legendary. Thanks for showing it again.

I'm from Miami and rain is very rare in late January/early February hence the reason the Superbowl has been held there 10 times because of perfect weather conditions....Miami will host again in 2020.
Prince was the GOAT for real! Singer, songwriter, guitarist (and many other instruments), producer, etc! When he died it was an international day of mourning! Rest in Heaven Prince! ❤️❤️
Love Prince! This was the best Super Bowl halftime in history! Even though it was pouring rain, he hit that stage and did his thing! He was an amazing man. Kind, caring, generous and had one of the most beautiful souls. I saw him in concert several times with my Sister in law. Each time, we got more than our money’s worth. He put his all into every performance! The guitar and the stage are his love symbol.
"The stage.... it's his guitar... am I right?" - To protest something in the 90's (pretty sure it was something against his record label and ownership rights to his songs), Prince changed his name to that symbol. That symbol is "Prince". And ya... it's his guitar too.
That whole show was amazing. It was pouring rain during that show and it was pulled off flawlessly. The dancers did their thing without slipping and falling. The stage was the symbol he went by for a bit.
I feel so privileged that I got to see Prince twice in London 1990 & 2007. Seen a lot of bands live and he was just head and shoulders above anyone else I saw. R.I.P PRN

Prince was the ultimate guilty pleasure alongside Jackson, my sister bought me Princes album sort of of a joke for christmas.. listened to it in secret sometimes, after all I was all about nails, leather and metal :)
Great reaction video! I thought I could handle it, but of course, I'm crying like a baby. I was lucky enough to see him 5X in concert. This man always gave it his all, in concert. I have loved him for years. I remember being 9 years old and seeing Little red corvette, on MTV, and I have followed him ever since. Its funny running into Elementary school friends and one of the first things they ask is, do you still love Prince! Lol! There will never be another Prince! I will miss him until I get to see him in heaven ❤
Oh please , DO NOT tear apart this most perfect show. Start at the beginning to the end. I love it when they warned Prince that it was raining that day and his response was, "can you make it rain harder." Amazing one of a kind talented person. RIP my love.
First saw Prince in 95 Sydney Australia The Diamonds and Pearls tour and have every time he's toured since. I had the privilege of seeing him at the Sydney Opera House on February 2016. The coolest man on earth.

I hope you will read this in its entirety, there is SO MUCH to talk about here...1st the guitar was same as the stage and that is a "sign" he used instead of his name for several years when he went by "the artist formerly known as Prince" he had some issues with the SYSTEM and was rebelling...secondly, when that crowd sang along this is arguably the largest sing along in World history, 100,000 people in stadium and I would estimate maybe another 10 million or so at home (including myself) all singing along by the time he got to that final song...the little snipet you watched was the last song of the set, and he had already brought the entire house down...this entire performance was amidst the worst downpour in superbowl history. Someone once asked Eric Clapton what it was like to be the best guitar player in the world. He said, I don't know. You'd have to ask Prince". Prince was a gift right out of Heaven. Wish he were still here. He was one of the gentlest souls you would ever meet. The stage he's on is the new symbol that he wanted to be called. Since no one knew what to call him, he went back to Prince.
Saw him live when I was 10. He came to Melbourne in 1991. My mum gave me the Purple rain album to listen to one day when I was 9. That was the beginning of my obsession.
I've listened to Prince since his freshman album. Controversy and Purple Rain are my two favorite albums. He was a stellar performer, songwriter and arranger. His guitar skills were something else. I was so angry and upset at his passing. It didn't make sense. Like Michael Jackson. I couldn't come to terms with it. Que the woo woo alarm: He came to me in a dream a few weeks after his passing. He said he was alright. Everything gon' be alright. He handed me a CD. His music is his gift to us. He isn't ever really gone when we have him immortalized in his music. Anyway.
The best half time performance I've ever seen. Incredible! I was a freshman in college during the heyday of Purple Rain back in 1984/85. I was a few hours drive from Minneapolis and regular went up there to go to First Avenue (where Purple Rain was filmed) and just enjoy the incredible music scene in that city back then. It always kind of amazed me a musical giant like Prince would choose to make Minneapolis his home even though he could have lived anywhere.
he showed the doubters of his guitaring abilities in the tribute to George Harrison "while my guitar gently weeps" with Steve winwood,Tom Petty,Jeff Lynne, and George's son Dhani Harrison on his blistering solo at the end of the song leading outtro. Loved the guitar toss at the end.
Hi India, To me Prince is The GOAT. Prince loved the symbolic shape that he chose for his Guitar & Stage so much that he once decided he wanted to be addressed as 'The Symbol' -formally known as Prince? Im glad he went back to his original name.
The day of this show, it began raining hard. The stage manager came to Prince before he went on and said 'sir, I'm sorry, it's raining, is there anything I can do'. Prince smiled and replied 'can you make it rain harder?'
I saw a Prince twice in person the first time was at the Cow Palace in San Francisco California the second time was at the Oakland Coliseum Arena in Oakland California.
Did you realize that entire performance was done in tropical storm like rain and still 4 live guitars used. True story as told by his hairstylist for this performance. P went missing and then he showed up on stage with the scarf on his head😂
