A complete guide on how to remove the AIS and install block-off plates on a Yamaha WR250R/X.
Note that there are a lot of AIS removal kits available in the market, so I recommend going for the one that best fits your budget.
FYI, the kit I purchased here in Japan was only 1000 Yen (about 8.50 USD in today's rates).

What size vacuum cap is that? Where did you get it from?

I haven't measured the exact vacuum cap that I used, since it came in the kit I purchased, but I read somewhere online that the inner diameter of whatever cap you're using should be 13mm (double check before you make a run to your nearest auto-parts store).

Oh, and if you're asking where I purchased the kit I used, I got it from a vendor on Yahoo! Auction; a service available in Japan that is kind of like ebay.

did this trigger an error code? what year is your wr?

I have a 2017 model, but it didn't trigger an error code. I did my own research on the internet before I removed the AIS, but I didn't find any reports on it triggering an error code for any model from previous years.

Why do this? What’s the benefit besides removing a little extra weight?

To give you a short answer, other than getting rid of a little weight, when you change your pipe to a less restrictive slip-on or a full system the AIS on your motorcycle may cause excessive backfire. Getting rid of the AIS can alleviate the backfire, but I also recommend changing the fuel ratio via the CO programmer built in the WR250’s speedo unit.
