I go through the install process of adding the GYTR slip-on muffler available directly through Yamaha for my Yamaha Project WR250R.
Naturally it's a good fit, takes the stock oxygen sensor bug and is easily to install, while retaining the exhaust shield which can help reduce damage from drops.
It's also fitted with the B&B luggage rack, which share one of the same mounting points on the tail, using the bolt provided with the B&B rack.
At this stage I'm running the stock headers and heat shield.
If you're in Australia, here's the link to the Y-Shop (genuine Yamaha accessory) page:

That really is a beautiful bike. Good video. The last time I fitted a hot exhaust was to a Mini when I was a lad. Sounded well. Didn't go as well.

Oh nice, my very very first experience was on the rusted old Excel I inherited, the header rusted out and I unintentionally ended up with a very 'characterful' shitbox. Fitted the cheapest fairly standard replacement I could find. It's a bit more exciting on the bikes, although I think most of the performance gains are a placebo unless you get the bike tuned or can flash an appropriate map!

@@MotoJournoKris My Mini's 'gains' were certainly placebo.

That rubber grommet interfaces between the stock exhaust and heat shield. It looks like the GYTR exhaust does not reuse that additional mounting point.

hiya awesome vid. I just got a DRD which looks pretty much identical to this. I saw you didnt use clamps as it came with none and there arent any cutouts anyway. same situation with me. That makes only two points of contacy with the bike (in terms of bolts). has yours held up? Do I need to do something about it?
@MotoJournoKris
@MotoJournoKris Год назад
I haven't had any issues with mine and it seemed a very snug fit, so I'm working on the assumption it'll be ok! I've seen a lot of WRs with these fitted and haven't heard about any issues yet (although I haven't done any research to see if anyone has any either).

@@MotoJournoKris Thanks for the quick response! Im riding tomorrow so I appreciate it lol. Yeah it seems like its on pretty good plus the two bolts will stop it in theory from sliding off. Preciate it and ride safe 🙏
@MotoJournoKris
@MotoJournoKris Год назад
@@hisride That's what I figured it would need to slide a long way back to come off, and the bolts should prevent that! Have fun!!

Hey, is there a way to get this exhaust shipped to Canada by any chance? Because i cant find anywhere to get this pipe! All the websites say its unable to ship outside of Australia.

Good luck. Ive been looking for months. No luck here in the US. The power commander v was a huge improvement in case you haven’t looked at it.

I had to start looking for someone in Australia to pick up WRR parts for me to send to the US. Can’t understand why the Yamaha dealers won’t ship out of the country there

You can get the same pipe from Dubach Racing in California. They will ship to Canada. They originally manufactured the GYTR pipe for Yamaha also. dubachracing.com/products/2008-20-yamaha-wr250x-ns-4-slip-on-exhaust

Did you forget to install the exhaust clamp on the new pipe?
@MotoJournoKris
@MotoJournoKris 2 года назад
None was included and the original is fused to that pipe so I couldn't re-use it. It's also solid on the GYTR, so with no cut outs I'm not sure it'd be able to do any actual clamping. I was a bit concerned but it seems well sealed, with no discernable exhaust leakage, probably due to the tight fit.

Cool. Was wondering if any leaks

Good video. GYTR web site doesn't show this unit for sale?

I think this one was sold directly through Yamaha, I'm not sure if it's been discontinued due to the bike no longer being produced, or if maybe it was only through Yamaha to begin with. It's still listed on the Y-Shop here as part number GYT-32D93-20-SS, but not in stock.

Nice. Good to see you smile. I managed to get a Q4 during lockdowns which was a bit lucky. It’s pretty noisy but I like the torque bump. Interested to see what you think. Seems I can lug it lower. Sound is very cool, but I am running with ear plugs now. And a fuel controller
@MotoJournoKris
@MotoJournoKris 2 года назад
I'm running the earplugs pretty religiously now too, I really need the fuel controller or a tune to get the most out of this pipe I'd say. I feel like it being louder without the earplugs I baby the revs to keep the volume down!

My bike came with a pipe. Just wondering if the stock pipe with exhaust valve makes more torque in the lower rev range?
@skaragianis
@skaragianis 2 года назад
I had the bike from new. The aftermarket pipe pulls better. You can pull from low down, lugging it. The bike doesn’t like that with the standard pipe, needing more revs. The aftermarket pipe likes to hit redline faster/easier too. It’s also a HEAP lighter. The engine is a just a pump so more air in and out makes a difference. Nothing massive with this bike but I think noticeable. I won’t be going back myself
@thomasr7552
@thomasr7552 2 года назад
@@skaragianis ok thanks that helps. I was always wondering if there was a trade off. Good to know it makes a positive difference
@MotoJournoKris
@MotoJournoKris 2 года назад
@@thomasr7552 There's some definite advantages of the aftermarket pipes, especially just in weight alone which can really help the suspension at the rear. Most bikes are pretty bottled up with the stock exhaust these days. Main trade off I'd say is a much noisier bike, which you'll normally notice, as on these 250s you are generally pretty aggressive on the throttle. But getting a tune is definitely ideal if you want max performance. I've talked to a few guys with an aftermarket exhaust who definitely thought they got more torque once tuned properly, particularly in the low to middle range. I really have to organise to get that done!
