My first car. Was 68 Nova four door. Straight. Six. In 1973. Year I got my liecence. I Was. 18. The car hit street replaced. Front bumper grill and hood. We chained. Radiator frame to a tree. And was able save it. Water pump was broke. Had to replace. Engine smoked. So had to buy. Studeabaker. Straight six. 66 Lark. Actually it was. GM. They supplied. Studeabaker. With engine. Thanks
In the Body shop, we put the porta pac inside the truck w/ some added support and pushed outwardly applying pressure evenly along the panel until got the desired contour
I thought about that and mentioned it in the video. I just don’t think anything in trunk would be strong enough. Really need my frame machine and pulling tower in the shop.
Every big channel has a catchphrase, like Cleetus with hell yeah brother, Tony/Stay Tuned with were gonna lose the shop etc..... I vote that yours has to be "that's not terrible". You don't get phased by anything which is awesome. The car is coming along great man
When I put a hood or trunk lid off or on by myself I use my cherry picker and some ratchet straps , it takes fiddling with but better than trying to manhandle it by yourself
I hope you know how much this content is helping the DIY restoration croud. Sent an email before i got to the part about you already having a tail panel.
Where there’s a will there’s a way ! Especially when something tickles that “ I can do this bone “ in your brain ! lol. One day I’ll be able to get mine out. Total 32” last weekend and another 18”ish coming tonight through Friday. Wtf 🙄😂 take care John 🍺🍺
I don't have a porta power but I do have a come a long. I tend to bolt through to the inside of the trunk and hook the other end of the come a long to an anchor (usually my pickup truck) and then crank on it until one of the two starts scooting. Once something starts scooting, I break out the torch and start warming and tapping with a hammer. Not that it gets any better results... Good luck.
You Can Make it easy on your self Just buy a new back panel, I have restored 5 cars, 1 Viewer said it right Tack weld a brace at rear well quarter well and Porta power the Panel In 1 shot. The whole panel, Do bottom then Top were needed.
I looked at bracing up trunk to do that but there’s so much stuff rusted that hadn’t been fixed yet I was afraid I would tear stuff apart or bend it. What I did definitely wasn’t ideal. It pulled it out a hood bit though. Need to get my frame machine back home.
Since we're fixing so called junk you could maybe fix that warped truck lid! Also when pulling out panels the pressure or points of force should be opposing if possible!
I looked at bracing inside trunk but didn’t want to try welding stuff in and it not work or damage more stuff. Really need a pulling tower with car attached to frame machine for this type of repair. I might play with warped trunk lid some. I really didn’t know if it was the lid or the car that was way off. Thanks!
There’s nothing in the trunk to brace it on that would hold up. I didn’t want to try welding in braces. This kind of pull really needs to be done with a pulling tower.
Hey John. I'm looking for 68-72 2 door stainless steel drip rail moldings. Do you have any idea where I can find a set. Need both sides for a 1970 2 door nova. The after market stuff is junk. Trying to find original moldings.
I have one set that I’m saving. It’s so hard to get them off without tearing them up. If I find another set I’ll let you know. Going to a swap meet this weekend.
Watching this video , it occurs to me . Evil Knievel was brave , but what were seeing here is ... Finish that as you see fit. Basically this is a poor boys ABC wide world of sports direct from Alabama . 🎯
SO MUCH TALKING. !!!!!!! Interesting project, and want you to do well with channel. Talk less, and mostly show the work. Don’t care what you have, could, would, should, or might do. Only care about what you ARE doing, Also, what were you doing with the port-a-power on the tail light. That one set up was like bending down, stepping on your hands and trying to stand up. Please don’t take this as me being a hater, Just offering you some honest criticism and advice. Truly wishing you success.
I appreciate your critique. I normally like to talk and work. Sometimes filming makes it difficult to do both well. I’ve tried doing videos different ways and on some things I have/want to explain more. A lot of what I say in a video is to answer questions/comment viewers will inevitably ask. The way I used the porta power wasn’t ideal at all but the frame rail was the only thing that was strong enough to push against. There was more space than it looked like on video and I was able to pull it about an inch. Really need a pull tower for this kind of stuff. Thanks for watching and the support. More to come.
Isn't it funny how some people are too timid and afraid to take on a big rusty project? They see a quarter sized hole and to them its scrap, and then there are the guys like us. My Ventura was hit in the rear like that one, but I'm not touching the body. The underside will be spotless, but the exterior will be exactly how it is now. Kinda wild how the quarters are different between 2 and 4 doors. That thing is looking like a race car again. Soon it will look like a daily driver. The entire time the timid people will call it scrap.
