I found the cheapest steel helmet for sale online. It is a visored barbuta helm, for sale on Amazon, for $41. It looks great for the money, has complete functionality. Indian Armor. Not set up to add an aventail, however it does have a basic faux leather height adjuster and solid chin strap.We put it to the test, wrecking it with an SCA rattan sword, a short two handed axe, a saber, a longsword, a long two handed axe, and a hammer. You need to see what the great axe did to dent the crown. It was a lot of fun and a learning experience. Of course, I know this is not intended to be used for actual physical contact. It would make an excellent cosplay item. Being involved in Armored Combat League and needing something to use my gear on while we are staying at home, it felt great to smash something.

First helmet I ever got and you've wrecked the thing! I got mine off some armour website and paid over 110 euro. I had to turn mine away from the screen. Still held up alright, cost considered. That hit to the back and top of the head were something else. Liked you had all the relevant tools to test too. Digging that hoodie.

Its a really cool looking helmet! Especially considering the visor works well and it has the headliner, wow, for the price they sold it on Amazon right now, it's well worth the money. Probably everyone and their mom seems to sell it these days, the price has gone down a lot. I wish I had my greatsword or else that would have been the grand finale shot to the helmet 😆. Thanks, her mom got me the sweatshirt 😃

Its made from steel ....and combat ready..just that its have too low quality...and maybe too thin....

@@kewintaylor7056 If it's low quality and too thin then it's not combat ready. Just because something is made from steel doesn't mean that it's strong.

@@SpaceEmperorGenos True. I have helmets that could stand to those blows wiyh barely a dent from the bigger axe. This one... would not be counted among them.

Everybody hates the rust when it comes in “new”
@vhaleryanadamant1975
@vhaleryanadamant1975 3 года назад
Well this is Larp armor made from mild steel of probably a thickness of 1 or 1.2 mm so it's no surprise that it bends so easily.
@notfeedynotlazy
@notfeedynotlazy Год назад
Even 1 mm, properly hardened (by work or heat), can stand to some serious abuse (i have a couple pieces that can testify that). This is likely 0.8 or less with no hardening whatsoever.

honestly for 40 bucks this one held up quite decent. Those were some rough hits. I would love to know how thick that metal is. Normal cheap reenactment and light combat steel is roughly 1.6mm thick and doesnt bent that easy when doing some fighting

I actually just ordered a metal thickness gauge. Hopefully it will help add more information to these videos! Thanks for the info on thickness

Weird question but I don't know where else to go. How many times a week should you clean the helmet if your using it as a decoration.
@BachataKnight
@BachataKnight 2 года назад
If you aren't handling it with your hands and it isn't going to get wet for any reason, a nice thin coat of something like Rem Oil should keep it free from rust for a long period of time. Dusting etc will depend on the environment. I have a pig face helm I got a rusty hand print on 🤦 so just make sure to do some detailing after handling it

If you want a sturdy helmet. Get one for buhurt. But they are very very heavy ☝️

I've been using a buhurt rated helmet on my pell. It's actually been the best thing i swing at for "kind of" realistic practice

Dude yess!!!! I will wear it for halloween. For each halloween i wanna dress up a ancient warrior. My first will be a samurai armor with mask etc& then the knight class. Since everything is looks color silver using black sweats and black hoodie will make the knight armor. I really just need a simple assassin knight which forearm guanlet,chest plate, shoulder plates and shin guard!!

@@BachataKnight Late for the answer (and answering a lot of comments to favor you on the RU-vid algorithm), but my educated guess is that it was likely 0.8 mild steel with too low carbon content to even be hardeneable, and most definitely NOT work-hardened. I have 1mm pieces that have been thoroughly work-hardened during build and can stand to... let's say "considerable more damage" than that helmet. You could dent them with the steel stuff , but certainly NOT with the rattan...

Should I consider buying for a costume
@BachataKnight
@BachataKnight 2 года назад
Its nice for a costume. The helmet (to me) is pretty short inside Nose to Back of Head. I couldn't wear it. But yeah if you think it fits, sure thing. Its just a very common helmet so its not exactly unique looking as is. And definitely don't get hit in the head with this one on ;)

This is on Medieval Collectables for $99-$123 depending on how large your melon is. It's too fantasy for my taste, but Cool, which is a big plus and wouldn't be out of place in a cosplay or LARP. For what you're getting, and for the present economy, not bad. But definitely not for full-contact sports. Get something approved for that.

Good point, especially on a large site like that. Someone may think it's a deal for some head protection, without yet knowing how to tell difference by looking at the pictures alone.
