Thank you for the videos, they are a huge help. My son and I wrestled out the trans and transfer case as one and it was a pain. Going back in, we removed the transfer case and it made installation much smoother. Splitting the two may have added half an hour but in the long run I think it made the job quicker and safer.

Your camera work is excellent, it takes the viewer along on the journey through the maze of removing a transmission. Many don’t have the luxury to call Jason, so it was nice you tossed in some encouragement for the self reliant folks.

I can't thank you enough for these videos. Easy to follow and simple instruction. I'm by no means a mechanic but you have helped me out of a ton of jams. Just wanted to say thanks.

I watch your videos for help on my 91 YJ we just bought a month ago already replaced the transfer case and today is clutch day

I have no clue why Eagle/AMC/Chrysler decided to put the clutch slave cylinder inside the bell housing. Years ago when I replaced it myself, it was a PAIN and a HALF to get to just to replace it, and I had to do it twice within months because I cheaped out on the parts. At that point, I said "never again" and anything clutch/transmission related with my YJ goes to a transmission shop. Got Luk clutch components in mine and haven't had any issues for a few years.

FYI the top most two bolts @12:12 are a external torx head bolt. You will need to grab a E12 socket to remove them, then make sure you replace them with a grade 8 hex bolt if you want to make it easier on yourself in the future removals.

Wouldn’t it have easier to separate the transmission from the bell housing and then the bell housing from the engine? I know it’s more steps, I hate lining up clutches.

If you first break the tcase off, the trans is easier to handle, ie you can bench press the tcase out of the way, then the trans in the same manner

On 94 and later models *unbolt the release cylinder from the transmission- there's no need to disconnect the hydraulic line* (Haynes manual) Real men read manuals

Was the rear drive shaft balanced on the vehicle? I thought they were balanced at the shop, so how the go back on should make no difference. Thanks for the videos.

I’m taking mine off to replace the torque converter. Has anyone documented the bolts and nut/bolt used to bolt the transmission case to the engine. Head size of each and actually length would be helpful if you have it. Thanks. BTW great how to channel for Jeeps. Very helpful for anyone turning wrenches at home.

We have a 92 YJ. Currently removing trans to replace the clutch. But all but 1 bolt on the skid plate broke. Any suggestion or how to remedy this? I know the nut they thread into is welded inside frame - so other things online say to cut a hole in floor pan, but I’d like to avoid that if possible. Thanks for the video!

Help! I have a 2001 Jeep Wrangler. 32RH (904). I change my transmission fluid every 40,000 miles. my transmission won’t shift into overdrive. I change the fluid and filter and replaced clutch converter solenoid. Still won’t shift into overdrive. Shifts fine in the first second and third at all the shift points for RPMs. Just won’t lock up in overdrive ,any guesses? Never has appeared to have burnt fluid. Overdrive clutch? Checked the throttle position sensor and clean the throttle body for your video. Replace the speed sensor.

were you supporting the transmission on the engine oil pan? My yj has a Peugeot transmission, I will eventually get around to swapping it myself
@JeepSolid
@JeepSolid 3 года назад
Yeah. If you place a block of wood under the oil pan to disperse the pressure, you can use it to support some engine weight.

I have a 1991 Jeep Wrangler Renegade, Engine 4.0 liters MFI 6 cyl 240.7 cubic inches, 190hp, 225 ft-lb @ 4000rpm Transmission Manual 5 speed: AX15 Transfer Case: NP231 ??? Front differential: Dana 30 Rear Differential with Trac-Loc: Dana 35, 355 gears, “C” clip style Tire Size: BFG AT 30x9.50 R15LT I have a problem that’s driving me nuts. I’m hopping you can help me with. I have a real bad vibration in 1st & reverse gear “intermittently” I can go 2-3 days and the Jeep will work fine, then without warning I get this bad vibration just starting out in 1st and backing up in reverse. I’ve had 3 clutch assemblies replaced (clutch plate, pressure plate, through out bearing, slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder, pilot bearing, flywheel resurfaced. New motor and transmission mounts. I even thought it might be the Rear Differential with Trac-Loc acting up, even though every time I look at it, it look like new, but just to make sure I installed a 912A569 Eaton Detroit Truetrac Differential. So now my idea it might be the flywheel that was resurface 3 time, and how knows if it was done properly from the beginning? Or the transmission or transfer case. What’s your thought? I’m tired of guessing. And spending money on items not needed. Thanks
@JeepSolid
@JeepSolid 3 года назад
Yeah. That stinks. Not fun throwing money at it. My first thought and a normal maintenance issue is the transmission fluid. How's yours? I've heard a lot of stories of people having an issue with certain gears, which was resolved with a change in fluid. Have you checked to see if yours is low, dirty, old? Is it due? Have you recently changed it with a different fluid. Just initial thoughts that are easy to check.

@@JeepSolid First, thanks for the reply. I change my engine oil and filter every 3000 miles. I change ALL my other components every 10 months (Transmission, Transfer case and both differentials) I use Lucas 85w-140 hi performance gear oil #10042 for the 912A569 Eaton Detroit Truetrac Differential and Redline MT-90 for my transmission.
