WTF Happened to Seann William Scott?

Seann William Scott is famous for being one of the nicest guys in Hollywood. Rising to fame in 1999/2000, hot on the heels of his gross-out teen comedy hits American Pie and Road Trip, Scott was on an enviable hot streak for a while. While attempts to break him out in different kinds of roles didn’t pay off at first (the late Ivan Reitman’s Evolution and Bulletproof Monk were flops), his comedies remained highly successful, with hits that included Dude, Where’s My Car, The Dukes of Hazard and Role Models. Not one to rely on typecasting, Scott attempted to break the mould a few times, starring in Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales, the thriller Bloodline and more. While none of those films were ultimately successful, one thing that was always well received was Scott’s acting.
In 2011, Scott had one of the best roles of his career as hockey enforcer Doug Glatt in the underrated Canadian hockey classic Goon. While only a cult hit, it spawned an even better sequel, Jay Baruchel’s Goon: Last of the Enforcers, which, like its predecessor, was only a cult hit in the U.S but a significant success in Canada. Scott also took on a short-lived part on Fox’s Lethal Weapon, replacing Clayne Crawford as Damon Wayans’ co-star, but that show’s tortured production history didn’t pave the way for a long run. While Scott arguably isn’t quite a household name at this point, he remains a much-loved figure in Hollywood and still has a devoted fan base, such as the ones who suggested we profile him here. With a new show, Welcome to Flatch, on the air - Scott is one of those guys like Bryan Cranston who may go unappreciated for years but could blow up bigger than ever with the right role. Join us as we take a look back at his career in this episode of WTF Happened to this Celebrity?

By the time "American Wedding" rolled around, you'd swear that Stifler was the main character, since a lot of the runtime is focused on his antics.
@nsasupporter7557
@nsasupporter7557 2 года назад
Yes, exactly. Because originally Stifler was only supposed to be a “side character” so to speak. But he became the whole movie by the time the 3rd installment came around. He was the only good thing about Wedding, that was the weakest out of all 4 American Pie movies.

American Wedding was good but that was too much Stiffler and it didn't help that other key characters were missing. American Reunion was a good send off if that really is it. Stiffler was great in 1,2 and Reunion because he was a supporting character.

can confirm hes a great guy in person. i was a nobody assistant on dude wheres my car. but every time i tried to sneak quietly into the ADR booth where he was looping his lines in post to bring the supervising sound editor something he'd stop what he was doing, turn around and say "hey whats up man?" while dapping me up (or whatever the equivalent of that was back in the early 2000s) this guy was bigger than ashton at the time, riding that Stiffler fame, but he was way more down to earth and real than most any other actors id met in my time in film. I went to school with Scott, Park Senior High, he was a great baseball player really good pitcher, taught me how to throw a slider, and one of the nicest people you could ever meet. Believe it or not the man NEVER and I mean Never swore. He actually started his acting stuff by getting into John Casablanca's models, and thats when he did the sunnyD commercial, in high school, not collage! When he told us about his modeling thing a lot of us chuckled but then after he left for collage he told us about a movie hes staring in but couldn't give us details till it was released. Then it came out American Pie, so the whole baseball team and football team went to see it, and the first words out of his mouth was, whats up fuck face...... we all about fell out of our damn seats! We started dying yelling, DID SCOTT JUST SWEAR????????? He came back from time to time, haven't seen him in a long time i'm not one of his closer friends more or less just teammates and thats about as far as our friendship went, but i'll never forget how polite and just over the top nice to everyone, he would even kill bullying with his kindness no one ever got upset or mad at him, it was impossible... besides if you tried every girl in the school would cast you away to be a horrible person for ever speaking to him that way lol. He didn't need guys backing him up, the girls did all that for him haha.

You gotta give him credit for trying to pivot to different genres: you can tell he's got the right idea, Evolution was an Ivan Reitman comedy, the Rundown was a well made, unique action flick, Bulletproof Monk could've had a large international audience, Ice Age is an animated franchise, and Goon was a dramatic role/sports movie. There are some roles he might have done for $$$ that contributed to typecasting-- but he's definitely working more regularly than most of the American Pie cast.

I completely agree with Seann for only agreeing to do "dude wheres my car" sequel as R rated. Movie production teams hate doing R rated movies, because they cant take a lot of money from kids, also kids usually bring their parents so its a lot more potential viewers that probably wouldnt watch that movie otherwise. You might think whats the big deal with making sequels of R rated movies as family friendly? one less nip slip? No No more cursing making some conversations and emotions look unnatural. No more blood ("venom" is a good examle). Humor suffers as the jokes you can make without getting canceled by twitter moms are greatly impacted. No drugs/alcohol abuse. And finally you not gonna see that nip slip. Im tired of sequals of great movies being ruined by lame humor for kids. So many movies I rewached 10 times, enjoying every minute, with a sequel that I cant get past 20 mins without looking at my phone..
@TacPanini8578
@TacPanini8578 Год назад
man the rated R cut of Dude Wheres My Car? was 100x funnier than what hit the big screen. So many jokes and references were cut to hit the rating it was sad. I think they were still doing re-edits and dropping in wild line replacements after I was off the project and so the version I had seen on my last day of work that I thought had been sadly gutted of all the great stuff was even further gutted when I saw it in theaters. Also, not that drug use in and of itself is inherently funny or anything, but I mean the movie is called Dude, Where's My Car? and the premise is these two clearly stoned dudes cant remember where they parked their car and hilarity ensues. Even the title hints at the stoned nature of whats going on here. The entire theme of the movie is THIS IS A MOVIE ABOUT TWO STONERS. And as a result yes, early cuts of the film had them ripping bong hits like literally every 5 mins. They'd run into a new obstacle? Get high and think on it. Time to go to a new location? Wait, first let's get high. But what came out to the public in the end was all the drug stuff stripped out. How are you going to strip all the drug stuff out of a stoner movie?? If I recall correctly they wound up leaning hard on this "shibby" word to imply getting high but my memory conflates what was and wasnt changed so I cant be sure. Then stupid things like the group of alien women offering "oral pleasure" was it? No, originally they were straight up saying "blow jobs". Not a huge loss there but another example of the PG-ification of the film. All this to say what the world knows of Dude Where's My Car? is actually a bare bones skeleton of what the movie once was and because of that the world was robbed. Just wish I had somehow kept a copy of the early reel turnovers on a hard drive somewhere for personal viewing :P
