It is sad that he is playing only 6 minutes on avg. But from what i saw, he is terrible defensively and on faceoffs. If you compare him to Slafkovsky, you have to know, that Slaf is really solid in defense, he is not making stupid mistakes and turnovers all the time. Wright needs more time in OHL. When i look at habs prospects, both Beck and Mesar played much better than Wright and they were both on 3rd or 4th line in those games. It shows you 1 thing and that is that Wright is not as NHL ready as we might thought. And also there is in my opinion atitude problem, he used to think in OHL, that hockey is easy and he does not have to work hard to score points. Well that backfired on him in NHL, because now he has to work hard and he is not used to that.

Mistakes or not, there's really little to nothing you can do to improve with only 6 minutes per games and it will mentally strike him directly sooner or later. Is the Kraken, a team more than likely out of the playoff, can't give more time to their young talent and get a honest chance to work on improving while in a NHL setting? If they can't do that, send him back in the OHL for the season. That team is all but stacked with superstar players, he should be playing at least 10-12min.

just a few things.............. 1. not every kid is ready to make the jump to the NHL straight out of junior and wright may be one of those kids. playing him 6 minutes is useless and he would be better served in the OHL. 2. if what has been written is true wright is rumored to have an attitude issue. hopefully that isnt the case BUT if it is send him back to the OHL. humble him and put him in a place where he can continue to develop while playing important minutes.

@rickysnow400
@rickysnow400 Год назад
McDavid and Crosby NEVER played on the fourth line. They were given prime minutes on skill lines. No pure skill players work they way up from the fourth line. Occasionally you get a guy like Kesler or Lucic who start as tough guys and turn into skill guys, but a skill player will lose ALL confidence playing on the fourth line with guys who aren't really that skilled and only getting 2-3 shifts a period. You're stiff, cold, sitting on the bench and then thrown out with guys that can't help you get your touches or get you the puck in open ice. You're talking like this is 1990. The game is completely different.

I think this is mostly due to ego. Ron Francis needs to justify picking Wright (especially for a team that doesn't NEED to pick the supposedly NHL-ready player in 2022, considering they aren't trying to contend for at least another couple of years). They could've had Geekie, they could've had Gauthier, or Kasper or Nazar. Those are guys who we knew wouldn't be playing in the NHL in the year following their draft, but who are likely all going to be beasts in the NHL in 2 or 3 years. But they chose Wright, who, for the bulk of his draft year, was the consensus #1, and who everyone was saying was ready for the NHL. To prove they made the right choice, they need to play him in the NHL. Sometimes, choosing the player who is supposedly NHL-ready is a mistake because that player has been labelled as such not because they're _actually_ ready for the NHL, but because they are too OP for junior hockey (and so they look amazing compared to their fellow players in the CHL). They have a leg up in one or more of size, speed, shot, or stick-handling that allows them to tear it up in the CHL, but it's something that was gifted to them, not something they had to work super-hard to develop during their mid-teenage years. Thus, they're used to everything being easy, and when they come to the NHL and realize that they're nothing special anymore, they don't know HOW to work hard. Some figure it out, while others wash out in a few years and head to Europe (*cough*... Yakupov ...*cough*). The Slafkovský choice is looking really smart now, because Slaf has been learning how to work hard since he was 15 and left home for Finland to live on his own, playing mostly on the U18 team for TPS (he did put in a couple games on the U16 team, but he was too good). Then when he was 16, he played on his first men's national team in the 2021 World Championship, and could no longer rely on his natural physical gifts to carry him through. He got an education in going from the best to the worst player on a team when he was just 16 years old. And it must have sunk in, because the difference between Slaf at 16 on the Slovakian men's national team and Slaf at 17 on the same team is night and day. He was the Olympic tournament MVP in 2022, while he had no points in the 2021 World Championship. I'm not saying Wright's a bust, but the Kraken are in a bind. There's no point in sending him back to junior, and they know it. He's too good, and he won't learn a damn thing. But he can't play in the AHL, due to the dumb rules that disallow players who have played in the CHL from joining the AHL until they're 20. And he shouldn't be in the NHL either...he's clearly not ready, and is not being used in a manner that will actually help him. *So personally, I think the best choice is Europe. Send him to a good men's league team (with a well-respected development coach) in Finland, Sweden or Switzerland on a 1-year contract. And just...leave him there.* Let him develop into the player he has shown he can be. Otherwise, I fear that he will never live up to his potential.

I still think in 10 years, Shane Wright will be considered the best player from his draft class. Slaf may be flashier. And might score more goals. But Wright will be a more complete player, and will likely be the type of guy that is able to make his line mates better. Sort of like comparing Ovi to Sid, with Wright being Sid. Side note: I’m not saying those two will be as good as Sid and Ovi, just using them as a comparison for how I feel the players will be held against each other, stylistically. So don’t go crazy with, “Wtf are you taking about? Crosby is one of the best players the game has ever seen! I think he has one of the worst FO% I’ve ever seen for a centre with an average of 29.4%. Wright is going to be a MUCH longer term project then most people thought because right now he is a turnover machine with bad decisions leading to the other team getting the puck. His only point so far was him barely (maybe not even) touching the puck when it was in the defensive end 11 seconds before the goal went in.

No young, high draft pick, skill players can "earn" his ice time by playing 5 minutes a game on the fourth line. Thats not his style of play. A grinder type player can do that but that's not what the Kraken drafted. Wright was a Patrick Kane style of player. He's all skill and playmaking and you can say he is a bit soft and you would probably be right but in todays game a player can be skilled and a little soft and still be a huge asset to a team but that type of player will never develop on the fourth line getting 10 30 second shifts a game.

This is coming from someone who has not seen a full Kraken game but maybe the team have already decided he would play the whole season in the NHL and just asking him to observe and learn in the first month. Slafkovsky hasn't played on the PP in Montreal either. Slafkovsky said in an interview that St.Louis told him to watch and learn for now. I see no problem letting Wright get used to the speed and skill of the NHL before giving him too much ice time right out of the gates. If his ice time doesn't increase by Christmas, and the team is struggling to score goals, we can have this conversation. But for now, I don't think it's so bad. Same goes for Slafkovsky BTW. I'd like him to get more PP time but if St.Louis thinks there's no rush, then that's fine with me. The Habs have some talent up front and I think it's ok to give him some time to learn too. Slafkovsky's had some great chances 5 on 5 in his first 5 games and if there are injuries and the PP is stagnant, that's when I expect him to get PP time. In Detroit's best seasons, they would rarely let a player start the NHL after being drafted. They let them play in the minors for 2, 3 years before being called up. Guys like Ovechkin and Crosby were generational talents and were impact players right of the gates but their teams where also depleted of talent. Wright isn't a generational talent. I thought Logan Cooley was more talented than Shane Wright. Arizona sent him back to play in University and they don't have an outstanding team either. I don't see the rush in brining up players too early. But like I said, if Seattle has already decided to keep Wright in the NHL and want to ease him into the line-up, I see no problems with that. As long as he doesn't play 7 min a game till the end of the season.

Ron Francis is a terrible gm and has no clue what he’s doing and Dave Hakstol is a garbage coach who was no good in Philly and is no good here. Hopefully they don’t waste his talents.

Great philosophie. Give the spoiled kid who was handed everything ice time that others work their buttts off for. You're tripping balls if you think a coach is going to risk his career for 1 player. I think the draft got you hyped up because it was in MTL. Do you really think that established players care about the draft. Every year theres a draft, every year kids show up, every year many disapoint and this year was by far one of the worst draft in years. Its 1999 without the Sedins. How did Caufield and Suzuki get to where they are today ? They earned it . Great way to keep your players, taking away hard earned minutes to sastisfy a few . Slav and Wright are getting the ice they deserve. These kids are good with the puck , its without the puck and positioning, and reading the play that they dont have. Move them up the line up and youll lose the team and the game. Hockey IQ gets developped by playing. But you cant risk the team losing so keep him down the line up and just like at every level he'll figure it ou eventually , then he'll get his shoot.

He is 18 year old, was expected to go first overall for years and then dropped to 4th and a terrible team (and by the looks of it, a terrible organization) in Seattle, and is now on the fourth line playing 5 minutes a game. He is literally being put in the worst position possible.

@@rickysnow400 he's not a superstar. That's where your wrong. He developed faster than other kids his age but now he's platuaed and others are much better than him. He's lazy and terrible defensively and he can't win faceoffs. They don't play him cause he's a liability on the ice. Ice time is earned not given based off nonsense. He's not worth the 4th spot he even went in and Seattle is begining to realize what 3 teams before them had the foresight to recognize before them. Oh well. Live and learn Ron Francis.
@rickysnow400
@rickysnow400 Год назад
@@0canadiens81 he absolutely has superstar potential. The kid is an incredible talent and needs to be developed. Plus he is only 18 years old. My entire point is that if they aren't going to develop him as a skill player he should be sent down to AHL or back to juniors where he can play a ton of minutes on top lines and power plays while they work with him on rounding out his game. Putting him on the 4th line and basically benching him the entire game does absolutely nothing for the team (there are other players who could do much better for the team in that spot) and it does nothing in turning a 4th overall draft pick into an asset for the team.

He's a boy in a man's game, or a woman's game. No difference, he's just gotta grow up and accept responsibility for this. People saw the draft antics and thought, "Oh boy... this gonna get ugleeee!" Then it did. Kid needs a mentor, period. Right now he has the grace of an immature, disgruntled, entitled , and spoiled teenager. Which he is, by the way.

Come on people. Teenagers coming in to the NHL is very difficult. A) Ice time is earned B) points don't matter C) it's 5 games D) it takes a full decade for these kids in junior hockey to get here only to be dumped on after two weeks of playing on an expansion team ? Give these kids and their management a chance, they're not all Connor McDavids...
