A trip back to Wurzburg American High School in 1989, 17 years after I graduated. I wanted to show my kids my high school. Some video of the PX area and long distance video of the castle seen from a rest stop.
Being german, I grew up in Gerbrunn, went with my friend regularly to Skyline area and, of course, raised on the best hot dogs and ice cream one could imagine. The Leighton area is now being converted into a student campus. Many, many things have changed. (You might find a few new videos on RU-vid.) Being teenagers then we enjoyed the friendship week and everything that was allowed for us to visit. This is a chance for me to say "THANK YOU" to all the people who were here over many years, far away from their families and country.
@@831digital Yes, and it was in the eighties when we had the best rock concerts in Wuerzburgs Carl-Diem-Halle and even smaller places. Queen, Tina Turner, Huey Lewis, Foreigner and Michael Jacksons Open Air at Mainwiesen. AC/DC with Bon Scott and Iron Maiden at Lengfelds sportshall „Kürnachtalhalle“. Great music, good shows and fantastic beer and fun with those american guys. (Sometimes the MP had to stop to much enthusiasm. 😁) I will always remember those times.
3:47 I used to live on Leighton Barracks in Skyline in building 129 apt R1, I had the first parking space. I was with HHC 1st ID attached to 121 Sig BN in Kitzingen. Great memories. 🙂💛 Thank you so much for posting this!
Wow !!! We where watching and can see our blue bronco II parked by the bx ,amazing, it was one of a kind. We put runningboards and bugshield on it !!!!
I was stationed at Leighton Barracks in 1973, I have great memories from those days. I was part of HHC DISCOM. SUPPORT COMMAND, First Sgt Arwine Jones aka “Top”, a great guy! Anyone who remembers or was there back, please say hello! ESP. if you have some photo’s you’d like to share. Cheers! btw - we had the best mess hall anywhere!! In summer they made a huge BBQ Grill, steaks, chicken, burgers hot dogs, fresh fruit & veggies, they really took good care of us! Thanks to the Mess Hall gang... awesome job!
Class of 1974. Attended WAHS from 1972 to 1974; lived in Skyline. Thanks so much for posting this; I never did get back there before the high school was torn down. What great memories! This is great for me and my sisters to show to our kids.
I went to that high School 70 to 73 graduated from there I used to have classes out in the old Quonset huts I lived in kitzingen and had to be bust their I went to the high school reunion in Las Vegas in 2003
Wow! I lived in Building 129 Apt R1 from 2002-2005. I have so many great memories of Germany. I met a great friend while stationed there and we are still friends to this day (although the distance between us is great). Loved this duty station.....
Thank you for the video, I went to the Elementary School right across the street from the High School around the same time you were there (early 70's).
I went to WAHS for 9th grade ('81 to ' 82) I was on the track team. I loved watching the Prancing Paws (the dance squad) and just enjoyed pretty much everything about my experience there. Wurzburg was by far my favorite place we lived as Army brats. I have very very very fond, happy, golden memories of the school and of the city. Thank you for posting this :)
Thank you SO MUCH for this upload! I was at Wurzburg with my mother (Air Force) '99-2002 before being moved to Ramstein AFB and when September 11th happened I remember it being the scariest thing for us all on that base! So many good memories were had there and it's sad to know its no longer active anymore:(
Very cool. My family lived there in Skyline from 1970-1973 in Building 120. Wow, this is so neat to see your video. Thanks for posting. I hope to get over there sometime. I was there from 1-3 grade.
Ken Olsen..I went to the elementary school from 1973-75..I believe we were in 104 /R8 it was across from the grade school..I probably knew you there..my graduation year was 82
Ken Olsen...Yo Yo's and marbles..damn that brings me back..I used to gamble on the playground..I had a shoebox with holes and if you made it in a hole you got the number of marbles marked above the hole..I had thousands...a friend of mine got caught by a teacher and they took all of his marbles away and dumped them in a fish tank by the office
Lots of changes here. I went to school at WAHS in 65/66. The housing area was known as "Easter Egg Village" because they were painted various pastel colors. Legend had it that a General's wife thought the area was so drab and that it needed some color...
My family lived right across from the (then called) AYA (American Youth Association) and my brother graduated in 1972 from WAHS, so he was probably a classmate of yours!
This was interesting to watch!! I did not know it was once an airfield. There is more of Leighton barracks on RU-vid: Got to The Big Picture "Broken Bridge" starring Audie Murphy and, possibly, "3rd Infantry" BTW: leighton barracks has been vacated by the US Army about three years ago; I believe that a nearby university or college is taking over the site. And Wurzburg Hospital is being converted into apartments
1:55 wow thats where my then girlfriend lived! This was very nice to see even though I was going there 13 years after this video was shot (2002. class of 05). I would like to go back to visit but I heard the school might get knocked down since the area was handed back over to the Germans.
There '79-'82. The wolves are on facebook: under Wurzburg American High School Alumni, and another site: wurzburgwolvesdotcom Reunite with the pack! Great video! It changed a lot in 7 years from when I left in '82. Big open field and the airstrip was still there! Bagged groceries at the old commissary...
