An undated recording of the sign-off used by the ABC network station for the Hampton Roads area of Virginia (Portsmouth, Norfolk, Newport News, Virginia Beach) during the 1970s and 1980s. A rather unique feature of this sign-off is that the announcer mentions several local and regional newspapers that carries the program listings for WVEC-TV. The video montage segment features scenes of nature and the Hampton Roads area. Also featured are some scenes of Colonial Williamsburg, which is also part of the area. The two historic buildings seen are the Govenor's Palace and the Capitol (Williamsburg was the second capital of the Virginia Colony, the first was Jamestown). Both buildings are 1930s reconstructions of the original early-18th century structures. WVEC-TV originally telecast on UHF Channel 15 and was affiliated with the NBC network during its first six years (1953-59). Channel 15 was reactivated in 1961 when Virginia's first educational station, WHRO-TV, signed on the air.

On this day I’m thankful to remember There’s so much to be thankful for On this day, remembering my blessings, I ask, “How could I ask for more?” There is love in my house, and work for my hands A welcome on each face I see. I have roots, I belong, there is hope in my song I walk in the sun, proud and free! America! I give my thanks for giving this to me. America! I give my thanks for giving this to me.🙏🏻

I love this song and America even more... BUT, we have to stop imposing 'extremes' upon people. So many people are wanting to go too far.

The origin of the song is a fascinating mystery. Nobody at WVEC knows who wrote or recorded it. The only accurate lyrics I could find of it online were from a Portsmouth high school yearbook, which listed that school's choir director as the arranger. Therefore, it could be a choir from that particular school (I. C. Norcom) heard here.

Quite true. This is possibly the most unique sign-off in classic American television. A beautiful song.

Does anyone know the name of the sign off song and the choir that sings this?
