Good find. Who wants to buy my US 1918 Au Lion, the original, french made, with sheath? The Au Lion's are the ones that possibly saw combat in WW1. It's been in a steel gun box for likely 75 years in better condition than the oner presented here. I'd like to get this into a collectors hands rather than the old steel box that's been in my family for generations.

Nice find, but that is not a linemans sheath. That is a military demolitions scabbard with small U.S. Utility knife probably by Camillus, and a multi purpose blasting cap crimper, upper section, det cord and timed fuse cutter, lower section of the head, the pointed handle was to punch a hole into a block of Demolition C-4 to insert the blasting cap. You don't just shove a blasting cap right into C-4. Great bargain purchase.

It's doubtful any of the American made knives made it out to troops in WWI. 5 months after the start of manufacturing the war ended, they were still sitting in the factory so they were oiled and packed in boxes. They were issued to certain troops 25yrs later during WWII but the design was outdated and the M3 was produced which could be used as a tool as well as for slashing and stabbing. The mark 1 1918 was then relegated to the dust bin of history. I suspect most of the unissued ones were probably sold off as scrap and recycled back into raw materials.. You can buy a replica sheath that will fit that knife. BudK has them for eight Washington's, dirt cheap.

well thats a great find for you for your collection. ive had several but that a nice one. i dont have mine anymore. i had 2 with original scabbards. i had the one with the triangular spike blade and 2 like this one. they are rare to find now. i bought mine in the late 80s. this is probably the most expensive this in your collection congrats on the find. my first one of these i bought from 2 sisters retired school teachers in the 80s. they had all their brothers ww2 items. all his uniforms and helmet plus his 1897 trench gun. cost me 1100 in 1986. they answered my ad in the newspaper. the uniforms smelled so bad i took them straight to dry cleaners with apologies to them. man, thats so awesome! always wanted one of those but never could find one for a price i could afford. so glad you got one! what agreat score. a lot of guys threw away the origianl scabbard during ww2 because it was basically crap. it didnt have a conventional loop to attach to the belt, it was meant to be slipped between the body and a belt and it had 2 prongs to hold it, but they often broke off rendering the scabbard useless. about the linemans pouch, i know later ones had a bunch of nomenclature lines stamped into with da, dsa, dsn numbers on it. the fact that yours doesnt makes me also thing it might be ww2. maybe it got tossed in a warehouse and reissued during nam or something. btw the proper knife it should have is called a TL-29. the crimper/cutter also has a TL number but i dont know what it is. anyway great score man!

It's not legal in at least 4 states in the US. Companies that carry replicas won't ship them to those states.
