No it wasn't, the H51 plywood box was only introduced in very late 1944 specifically as a Jungle pack and was adopted as a standard packing post W.W.2 for S.A.A.. Other, larger wooden boxes were standard before then such as the H1 and H13.
Great video and information! I wish they were as plentiful and low priced over here. I did pick one up last year, but mine is reissued with a brown paint. I have a large metal ammo box as well, also in a brown paint. Do you know when this brown colour started being used and when it ended? the wooden one is stamped 1954, and the metal 105mm is 1969.
I think the brown came in the mid 1950s...I do know for example the US Olive Drab colour of the time was more of a brown than green colour,...I see these boxes all the time, but unfortunately most are minus the lid and are just an open box with handles, without the lid they are not worth getting hold of.

I picked up a 1944 British or Canadian metal Anti Tank mine box repainted and re-labelled. It is a strange green. I'm working up to a video on this, and other ammo boxes in my collection soon. Checked my settings, and found the problem. Don't know why the check mark in a certain box was missing. All is fixed now. The video is happening this weekend. I have disrupted my Wife"s way of keeping the house for a week now.
i have a ww2 303 british 1000 round battle create dated 1944 in bandeliers still loaded with ammo i did shoot 100 rounds of it is there a market for this, ammo looks like it was made yesterday. all dated 1944
hi, there certainly is a collector market for it, tho it would be of more interest to shooters who hold the necessary license to own live ammo.....to deactivate it for the general collector market would be counter productive.
