WWE 2k17 (PS4, Xbox One) is another yearly release from the wrestling franchise. Does it add enough to warrant another jump into the series? Let's talk about it. ★Subscribe for more: / gameranxtv
Game Person Sadly couldn't afford it since I got my new job three years ago. I'm not being paid enough to get a PS 4. I did ask for one for XMAS for last year but my parents couldn't get it on sale. i still cannot afford one and am looking for a new job that would pay more and treat me better and maybe even would promote me for busting my ass for three years.
Game Person And starve and potentially be homeless? Yeah i don't think so. I have food to buy and apartment rent to pay for and bills to pay. my money has been going to those.
Dat Boi I think even 2k16 was a big improvement to 2k15, and 2k17 was an even bigger one. If 2k can keep improving, I think we could get the best WWE game soon.
The backstage fights don't look all that good when compared to WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain's backstage fights. In that, you could walk all around the area. It was like free roam. You can ride a motorcycle, drag your opponent by the neck while riding the motorcycle and throw him off, throw your opponent off a high second floor, throw them at a electric power device, which shocks the shit out of them, Irish whip them into a bathroom, thus landing their head in the toilet seat LOL, throw them through a fucking crack wall, leading to another room, climb a fucking building and throw your opponent off that shit, climb a ladder leading to a damn helicopter and jump on your opponent in the street, while cars drive by and slam them on that shit!!!!! Breaking the fucking car!!!! Yeah. Compare that to today, this ain't nothing.
Danny Reel Yeah. Arcade gameplay is fun as fuck. Just surprises me how so much of the old games could feature way more stuff than new games now. It's insane.
because they didnt have enough coverage to showcase Lesnar.....they could have but it requires wrestlers who not currently in the game. Specifically (Kurt Angle, Chris "whatever his name is" , Rey Mysterio, Bob Holly, RVD, etc...)
same thing happened to me in last man standing it seemed to be a glitch except i was hit by a chair, i thought the ref was pissed that i ran over him earlier lol
The Animations and graphics are shit. It's basically a higher resolution old gen game. Backstage battles were in a game from 2003, it's not a new feature either.
Yes give me a remastered next gen No Mercy. Make it basically the same but with updated rosters and some classic no mercy legends lol. Also I think they should do a new legends of wrestling or a legends of wrestling 2k game with tons of throwback wcw, wwf and ecw wrestlers. We get kind of screwed out of getting complete rosters to relive our monday night wars. We are always missing either goldberg, sting or hulk hogan as well as the likes of angle and many others. A legends of wrestling 2k game would fix that and we could have a game that would include people that wwe 2k would never use like La Parka, Disco Inferno, Kanyon, Nasty Boys, Val Venis, Mosh and Thrasher, Hardcore Holly, Crash Holly, Raven etc. Lesser known guys from the time periods that arent actually legends. It would make for a great game
Totally. Best soundtrack, greatest creation system like entrances and taunts and move, great campaign mode involving create a character where he/she goes to PPVs being involved in month story lines like needing to compete for the #1 spot for ROYAL RUMBLE or having a hardcore weapons grudge match VS Matt Hardy in NO MERCY since you beat him the previous month but he's been harassing you since.
spent 45 minutes fighting Roman Reigns last night because neither of us would give in to a pin. its alright 5\10. nah lol legit it's really damn good. but promo mode in career kinda sucks because the sentences are too vague
FullMetalWhiteboy Legend difficult? I went against Demon Finn Bálor as Shinsuke Nakamura and we did it like 3 hours with normal momentum, it was freakin' awesome, from the ring to backstage and from backstage back to the ring :p
The most major glitch i faced in 2k16 was that when i played fatal 4-way, my brothers character (Sin Cara) Started twisting his body as if he was placed in a blender and rolled towards the other side by having arms pop out from his butt and other parts popping out in the wrong place
Pros: great content. Amazing character models. Loving the intros and soundtrack. Cons: -No Shinsuke Nakamura on the day 1 roster (I know he'll be DLC). -I despise the submission mechanic for both offense and defense. Stupid. -Maybe I haven't looked thoroughly but I couldn't find a 2/3 falls match.
I actually really enjoy the game. I've bought it on day one and it's really cool to play as guys like Goldberg or AJ Styles. The roster is really big and filled with lots of interesting guys from the past, the present and the future and i really like that they let us buy the "legends" with ingame money instead of just giving them to us. That's a good motivation to put on good matches instead of just using the same moves over and over again. I kinda miss the showcase mode in this year's game but i just hope for the return of the GM mode in the next game. :D
Absolutely 0 bugs or glitches on the PS4. At least form my experience. I see a lot of people who own the game on Xbox one say they have experienced not a little but a lot of glitches/bugs.
So, have 2K figured out a way to import music for custom entrance themes yet? As someone who spends a ton of time creating wrestlers, having to use an existing WWE theme or generic default song is kind of a buzzkill.
That feature is likely never coming back. It was taken out long before 2K bought the franchise. The reason it's not included is because of licencing and copyright concerns. Thanks to RU-vid, the MPAA, RIAA and other such organizations, fair use is dead and the ability to import commercial music is a lawsuit waiting to happen because of the vultures.
Yea bro it was a feature they had, and they cut it out of the game in 2k15. A long with just about every other feature custom entrances etc.. actually thinking about it, that game was fucking barebones as shit and they should have been sued for that abomination.
before people complained that the games were to easy and the same every year, now their harder and realistic and people still complain lol like shut up 150 plus wrestlers, my career mode, a lot customizing , all the old matches are back, universe mode is back and better than ever and they even took out showcase because people complained and what do fans do complain lol like shut up its annoying
2K17 is awesome. It's much improved over 2K16. The gameplay is more fluid, it's easier to chain together moves that actually look real and there are less and less wonky animations. Universe Mode is greatly improved. It's just a huge upgrade in every way (except Career Mode, that's still lackluster).
i'm still waiting for 2k to make a gladiator game. use a lot wwe features (like the extensive character creation and the career and universe modes) and now you get to brutally kill your opponent....since wrestling is fake.
The major/minor reversal isn't new this year they started it last year they just built on it. Funny thing about glitches I was playing through a NXT card in universe mode I had just did a tag match between American Alpha and The Revival and I hit the "next match" option which was supposed to be a one on one match between Asuka and Alexa Bliss but for some reason when the match started one man from each of the tag teams was in the ring and it somehow turned into a fatal 4 way elimination match. The weirdest thing about the glitch though is that there was commentary for mixed tag matches
NickTheGamer_ well, that's weird, but according to the people in the 2k forums you're not the only one. I got it (ps4), total game size is something about 57gb with the patch (46 without).
minor and major reversals have always been a thing. what WWE 2K needs to work on more is a career mode, and to introduce roster updates. with roster updates, you could get constant events, like have players vote who will win a PPV, similar to UFC. just a few thoughts
hes not retarded, he just called it 2k because the games are called 2k because they bought the rights after THQ went bankrupt. Ninjajawz87 you are saying it wrong though, WWE'12 and 13 have the ' in them, before that it was SmackdownVsRaw20** but anyways, now their called 2k, honestly I prefer the THQ ones. My favourite was '13 and all stars.
I preordered the NXT collectors edition, I had high expectations and they didn't exceed them, but they met them. 2k17 is a great game, buggy sure, missing some depth in terms of game modes and matches. But Creation sweet, Roster, Universe mode, my career is pretty good, not great though.
Gameranx, So how is Character customization in the game when compared to 2K14(X360, last game before game modes began to get removed with early next gen) and 2K16?
This is actually the first WWE game I've bought in at least 4 years (maybe longer) and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. And you're right the create features are pretty deep, I stayed up way later than I care to admit tweaking my character.
and yea u right burh i been sayin this for a.longggg time wwe games stillll didnt do no type of upgrades thats why i dont buy them wack ass games no more they stay putting shit in then taking them out like yall still cant get on any smackdown vs raw games its sad
What gameranx said was literally on point. I believe that up until now the 2K WWE series are heading into the right direction, but its not entirely perfect. My expectations were rather not high for 2K17 because I kind of predicted what it would be like. The thing that really stood out for me the most was the comeback of backstage fights. The game needs to update the new show logos. Because otherwise it just looks like your playing 2K16 only with an updated roster.
gameranx Yeah, apparently if you put the PS4 version into the rest mode while on the main menu it deletes the save. Happened to me TWICE before I realized what was happening. 😡
I got a bit bored of the repetitiveness of 2K16's career mode and I would take a break and come back, but I just couldn't finish the mode. I played Universe mode which is always fun, but the game would often crash before, during, or after a match. So my brother & I just played Tag Team Hardcore matches on exhibition until 2K17 came out. I'm loving 2K17 so far. I love how you can earn VC from exhibition & universe mode and use the VC to upgrade my character in the career mode. Nice addition 2K!
Little correction: Double chance for reversal are already a thing in wwe2k16, being major (mid actual move and cost 2 bars) or minor (at the start of a move, costs 1 bar)
The online options absolutely sucks. Fans have been asking for lobbies and more solid online experience forever. But 2k has just ignored it. I have a friend i play online with and we would want to join something else than just team up matches, but with the absence of lobbies it's not possible. Im done with the series and didn't buy it this year because of that. THQ got the online experience down with lobbies in their SVR games. Miss those times.
I bought a ps4 in April so I was very excited to pick this one up on day one. So far coming from 2k16 on the PS3 it's a huge transition, mostly good. It's hard to get used to the much slower speed but I'm having a great time and havn't even gotten into my universe yet!
My only main question is if the star rating is dynamic, or if it's the same bullshit where you have to basically run the catalog of your moves to get 5 stars. It's leads to routine gameplay, rather than just playing how you wanna play. You like to punch and kick a lot? Better not. You'll get "Stale moves" but if you just force 300 grapples that's not stale at all and definitely doesn't get old every single match.
Uncle Ram In WWE 2K16, I was a submission master, I won 90% of matches by sub. But in WWE 2K17 the Superstars use boost and now it is really impossible.
Smackdown vs Raw 2005 for the Ps2 was the funnest wwe game I've ever had the honor to play with my cousins at a young age. ;P. Haven't played another one ever since.
I bought this game the day it came out. I have been playing WWE games since "Bring the pain" on the ps2. This game is actually really realistic. The graphics look awesome on next gen. So many options in this game.
Sometimes I think I'd like to see WWE make an "NFL Blitz" type of football game with the WWE Roster as the football players. Teams would consist of things like, "Heels" and "Faces" and "Legends" And "Attitude Era" and "Hall of Famers," etc. Instead of Sacks and Tackles, Superstars would perform moves like Spears, Flying Clothes-Lines, Cross-Body takedowns, etc. Getting a Touchdown would give you a Finishing-Move token which wouldl let you do a Finisher-Move on other teams players, or Coaches, or maybe let you just immediately Power through the O-Line and smash the other teams QB on Defense, or let your player plow their the Defense for a massive TD-Score on Offense. And the Coaches would be Vince, Stephanie, Shane, Paul Heyman, etc. But Triple H would also be an option as a player.. *Sigh.* A man can dream.
That sounds really awesome but unfortunately i think the company Midway is not around anymore so they couldn't title it NFL Blitz but they could make a similar game to it with the same idea.
they need to remove this reversal shit i like being able to time it instead of you ran out of reversals time to get your ass kick until it comes back like wtf
I love wrestling games, and older wrestling in general, I have since I was a kid in the 90's. WWF No Mercy for N64, a classic, it is the standard I hold all wrestling games to, and nothing has compared to it. Some have come very close though. Smackdown SYM and HCTP are two great ps2 wrestling titles that I also very much enjoy, they defined the use of chairs for me back then too XD. If you didn't know the old smackdown games before SYM, when you hit someone with a chair or any object, they kind of just stagger around, and it didn't have no real weight to it. When SYM came out, I was so blown away by how the chair shots looked pretty much exactly how I'd expect, they actually connect with the head in a real way, and you can do grapple holds with them, like a DDT. Don't get me wrong, I love the original smackdown game for ps1, I played the hell out of it, but the weapons left a bit to be desired lol. Anyway moving on...After Here comes the pain, we had our first smackdown vs raw, which was okay, but it was a reset, so a lot of things were just not there any more, RIP backstage transistions lol. After that I wasn't impressed by any of the sequels, until SVR 08, which has ECW, and the hardcore stuff was pretty good, still no backstage transitions, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. After 08, I played 2010, which again was okay but nothing amazing. I quit playing the future titles after 2010, up until WWE 13. They sucked me in with that beautiful Attitude Era mode, which I adored, since that was my childhood pretty much lol. I lived breathed and dreamed about wrestling in the 90's, so having the Attitude era was an instant buy for me, and the game was really good...Still no back stage though :(. After 13, I did play 14, it was good, not as good as 13, but it had goldberg like HCTP so I was happy :). Now we come to 2k15, that game was absolute garbage. They ripped the guts out of it, and left it bare bones. Only real good addition to that game was playing as Sting, other than that, the game sucks ass. 2k16 came along and did great things though. Playing through Austins career was an extreme joy, since he was and still is my favorite wrestler in the WWE, and the game in general was cool, but a bit clunky, and still...No backstage action of any sort XD. Now we come to 2k17 FINALLY!!! BACK STAGE HAS COME BACK to wrestling games...I'm very much late for this game, but I bought it, and should have it tomorrow after work lol. Hope it's an improvement over 2k16, and I'm of course gonna go all hardcore on that shit, and go...BACKSTAGE...Maybe be Mick Foley for the first match, he is a hardcore legend, so that would be fitting lol.
First WWE game I've purchased since 2k14 - played about 10 matches, absolutely hated the submissions & pin system - traded it in for Tombraider instead.
Game has a new lighting engine and it makes a huge difference playing in person. The faces were mostly overhauled from 2k16 as well. Certainly doesnt make it a whole new engine but it doesnt look "Exactly the same" either.
The Game is great and I've had it since November and I was instantly hooked and still am. Also I rarely get bored then I switch to MKX, then after an hour I want to get back to the game. Every time I play 2K17 I always play Career mode. I love this game! 10/10
career mode is a complete waste this year. I had high hopes due to to nba 2k's career, but wwe lacks heavily in comparison. We dont have a choice to go to NXT or not. You can if you purposely lose to Joe. I wanted to go there so I lost. Now I been stuck in a 3 month fued with Bo Dallas. I beat him in singles matches 15 times in a row! Yes, 15 times! Not a single cut scene other then the promos and my ranking never increased. I also just faced Joe and he is NXT champ. I beat him and I am still ranked 6th, I do not even get a title shot and Cole kept saying its the fan favorite vs the number 1 contender....I am a heel and joe is the champ.... lol. Its just really boring and repetitive. There is no reason for you to be fighting people like bo dallas in single matches 15 times in a row. I also seen another career on youtube. this guy had to face Kevin Owens, John Cena and Sami Zayne. Like seriously? a 1 on 3 handicap match with those people teaming up would never happen unless you were Brock Lesnar and HHH and Stephanie had a vendetta against him lol.
Haven't really played a WWE game since 13. Still doesn't seem like the 2K franchise doesn't have it figured out. Also why are they still supporting last gen? They should've ditched them completely starting last year.
The fact that it doesn't have it's own dedicated GM mode is a killer for me, I hate Universal mode, I want to go head to head against Raw/Smackdown and compete for ratings but they failed to add it now on a Next Gen
The only thing I don’t like is the promos, like some of the things you picked, you would think it’s good but it’s completely the opposite of what you think. So I ended up be a heel then a face which I wasn’t going with
TheBlueChaos - PlayStation Content "Remastered". developers are lazy they have to remaster the great games they once made instead of making another good game
I haven't bought a WWE game day 1 since WWE 13 (I played all the others after that though) and this was definitely a day 1 purchase for me. NXT Edition. And I gotta say I'm enjoying the game alot. Feels more like a complete package than WWE'16 and more and more like 2K game. Yes the old "classic" bugs are still there like the old THQ games used to have, but they usually do a patch those. Will I buy 2K18 though? We'll see. I'm happy with my purchase. I gladly skipped over buying all the others after WWE13 because it's the roster and gameplay was so robust I didn't need to upgrade. Right now the only person I'm missing from this roster is Bobby Rhoode. But it's gonna take me than ONE character to get me to buy the next game.
0:20 if you watch closely you'll see that "Buroku Lesunaru" put his right arm under the top rope and when he suplex AJ Styles his arm manage to go on above the top rope...
Do a before you buy on wwe all stars on the PS3 and xbox 360. That's a no mercy style game. Maybe if you make a video about it more the 5 year old game may get a sequel or reprint copies and re enable online mode.
There are a lot glitches and issues for starters. when you switch cheer to boo for a superstar or a team it dosen't change it still the same. Not to mention when i did a title match for the IC title Dolph Ziggler Vs. The Miz at No Mercy (Custom Arena) when Dolph comes out with a title when i did not select any title on him. and the Announcer don't work don't fit in on whats going on with the match etc plus Finn Balor new demon attire are not selective in the creation suite and can not customize at all.
For the moment, until we get another patch that fixes all these problems, WWE 2K17 is like having an abusive boyfriend that keeps swearing he won't hit you again. But then, you burn dinner a few days later, and have to explain to your friends that you fell down the stairs.
They didn't even include any of the new logos or sets for RAW and SMACK DOWN Live. Kinda disapointing for them changing 3 month prior to the release of the game itself :(
they should've added new that they haven't had before like 8 man tag, 10 man tag, and should've brought back triple threat tag team match (SD vs Raw 2008)
I'll save you time if you read this first, Don't buy it, 2K made a glitch fest. If they were to fix it, it'd be the best wrestling game... but they won't. End of story. Ask for your money back by next week IF they don't fix it or plan to fix all of it ASAP.
Not these glitches, ...Save glitch, things passing through bodies or solid object, physic not working and whatnot... TONS of glitches... Universe mode being random and fucking up all the time... It's NOT a good game at all this year.
Then you don't play at all. because there's A SHIT ton. you don't look at things that are supposed to be solid, save glitches, menus not appearing, textures not appearing and whatnot... not my problem if you don't check what you're doing... and even the servers aren't working properly. They failed. I'm positive they won't fix anything too.
The last WWE game that I really played was WWE '12 (or '13, I don't remember). I really haven't bothered to get any of them since then. I don't know, I guess I just don't really care anymore.
Sadly it seems like Gameranx only reviewed the PS 4 version and not the PS 3 version because I have rented the PS 3 version since I only own a PS 3 atm and wonder how to do "Create-A-Finisher/taunt" and if there is a story mode. As far as the whole glitches thing I can believe that because 5% of the moves in the move lists actually seem to be pre-programmed to fail like a diving haymaker will on purposely hit nothing in the preview.
