WWE 2K23 Reveals Universe Mode Changes, War Games Features & More! 

We got Brian Williams back, so even if we don't get Create a Finisher and Create a Story this year, you can bet that he's fighting to get it for future games.

It really feels like they focused on the right stuff this year. Universe, creations, and showcase are my personal favorite modes.

The news about Wargames is insnae. I’m actually very impressed and I’m grateful for them even attempting this.

Woah! 😳 You can control all participants in the WarGames match?! I know you can flip between wrestlers in normal tag matches, but in a Tornado Tag match, I don't think I'd ever seen that! 😳

It seems that this game will be even bigger than 2k22 Really looking forward to it

I really hope they add tournaments to universe mode. I love me a good tournament. It really sucks to try and figure out other ways to keep track of tournaments in UM. I also hope that they add a draft to universe mode too. Other than that I'm excited for wargames. I hope they add both NWO and DX this year too.

I'm shocked in the best way possible about Wargames. I just figured they'd give us a bare bones Wargames this year and then improve it in the future games. This news is awesome. Also the creation suite improvements. So many spot on C.C.s in '22, imagine them in '23. Looks like we have ourselves a wrestling game.

I’m the biggest universe mode fan so I pray it goes well. I’m also pretty excited for MyGM as well. MyFaction will be a nice bonus for me since I am pretty competitive in online sports games. Overall, looking good so far. I want to see more soon.👍🏻

They did hint at a third arena for War Games. I'm thinking maybe they have a classic WCW type eh?

I would assume the 3rd arena for War Games is Fall Brawl because that was the PPV in WCW that would have War Games matches.

Hopefully they add more backstage locations

Cutscene & more storyline control is a must.

I applaud 2k for innovating, or at least trying to. Especially in this day and age where everything is basically rinse and repeat.

I hope they added more stage sets for create an arena. We had the same stages for years and it's getting mundane.

Now see THIS is information that's got my interest peaking. Can't wait to see War Games, Universe Mode and CAS in action.

Impressed they got the Survior Series: WarGames arena in; it also sounds like a legends WarGames thing might be in the game? With this and Fight Forever coming out, wrestling game fans gonna be eating good -- and Bryan Williams worked on both. 😆

Some things that I’d like to be added also slight wishlist for future games -logo limits higher -more create arena parts -10 man ring limit -weapon physics like svr 2011 (I loved doing finishers on steel steps) -Universe Mode sorts out roster when you’re booking a show for that specific show. (Kinda like the character selection on 2k22 gm mode type thing) -add different segments if promos are back (in ring, backstage, contract signings, retirement, debuting superstar, tag team promos, multi-man promos limit 4 at least, etc) -new universe mode cutscenes (Royal rumble, stable attack, superstar specific cutscenes like Roman Reigns spear you out of nowhere) -more multi-man rivalries -storyline rivalries for universe mode (ex. Yes movement vs Streak back in 2k15 I think) -injuries in universe mode (Unable to actually use the injured star, injured champion relinquishes championship) -tag team pin break up limit to at least 3 (personal reason for me it’s just super annoying especially in 4v4 when everything keeps getting broken up repeatedly or they can add a pin break up cost you 1 finisher can only be used twice) -camera placement freedom (like nba) -characters getting knocked down at the beginning of the match and instantly get back up (like 2k14) -Universe mode show ratings rather than rating every match -draft or randomized roster -Universe mode popularity system (stars, shows,push suggestions, fan feedback) -Book tournaments and choose show duration (2 weeks or 4 weeks) -customize shows, titles on gm mode -regular moves on announce tables -diving off barricade -download custom gm mode rosters -download videos community creations (custom titantrons, promo packages, and show intros) -create a comback attack

So excited for Universe Mode! I feel like the Devs are ACTUALLY LISTENING!

I will take my hat off for wwe 2k for putting In WarGames that must of been one hell of hard work to do well done for doing it now I can officially say let the WarGames begin

What about a 2 player season mode or something??? where u can battle with a friend and go for the tag team titles etc

I love how they’re doing showcase this year I mean it’s awesome playing the showcase Star but to play as the guy taking on the the showcase Star just feels different and I like it 😁

I have to give Visual Concepts a little credit on this one. It sounds like they actually put a ton of effort in this year to fix the wrongs and actually add some innovation.

I don't remember if you could do this in the older SVR games but one thing I'm hoping they allow is like walking on one side of the cage to set up a dive to a certain area that would be really cool if that's in there

We don't have to wait til release to see if you can play WarGames in other arenas, because you just read it in the quote from the dev that said "you can play War Games in the NXT, Survivor Series, and in a 3rd arena that we are not ready to talk about". So what is there to wait and see? You just read that its only available in 3 arenas.

Hopefully the problem with certain wrestlers alt attire entrances isn't an issue this time around. Image slots and CAS slots 100% need to be increased especially for current gen consoles. And no more problems with renders!

I'm so hyped after hearing about the new additions to Universe mode, I wish there was some features from MyGm brought in though like rival shows and ratings. But the CAS section had me hyped. I'm definitely getting that Icon Edition!

I'm glad that it sounds like the devs are actual fans and not just money focused game devs, means they might actually put in the effort.

i am really excited for universe mode this year, last year gave us very limited amount of control and that sucked but this year im hype. i hope run ins for title matches can happen aswell cuz that seems to happen every roman reigns match plus has happened in the past as well

I hope there is way more matches then Mysterio’s showcase. Few predictions would be RVD vs Cena at ecw one night stand, Orton vs Cena vs Triple H at WM, sadly I don’t think any of the punk matches will be in the game. Which sucks cause the feud with him and del rio is kind of important. Maybe miz vs Cena at mania and rock vs Cena 1 at mania. Not sure which Orton vs Cena match or matches but my guess would be at least 2 or 3 times. Brock vs Cena when he got suplexed 13 times.

I wish they would bring back create a title and be able to defend it online. I hope the Play by Play is better for this year game. I am interested in John Cena showcase mode. I do miss Road to WM mode, but at least we get Showcase mode.

I am already so pumped to hear war games is in the game and then to hear the news about universe mode that you dropped. It’s finally got me excited for a wrestling game to be released and with everything I heard today it’s definitely enough for me to finally pre-order. 2K19 I loved how you walk to the backstage from the arena but you have walking restrictions with in 2K22 you can walk in a wider range.

Can’t wait to get 2K23 I still want to play the AEW fight forever more though but can’t wait for this

Very interesting spin on the showcase mode and the showcase commercial featured RVD, Angle, Batista, Rock and Roman. Can’t wait to see what surprises they also have in there and hopefully it lasts longer than the Rey one. Fingers crossed for the Universe mode changes! And CAN’T WAIT for the upgrades to the creation suite.

One of the biggest things I’m looking forward to is if they improve the commentary. I find it really dry every year and Ik it’s not something they can ever get perfect because of the situation or match you’re in Is different for everyone but idk I still feel like they should make it a bit better somehow. Also the audience should get updated as well to make the matches feel more alive. New updated looks to them and the animations would be nice as well

With this showcase mode I’m thinkin we might get Lord Tensai/Albert as a legend in the game. This pretty much confirms Kurt Angle’s in the game too.

This feels like the next step to create a story returning.

This new WWE games sounds so much better than 2k22. I like how team working on this game is trying their best to satisfy the community. I can’t wait

all i really want is dual title entrances, a war games match, and a gauntlet mode.

I am sooo excited for improvements to universe mode! It's my favorite mode in any wrestling game. The fact that we have more control over storylines is just a huge selling point for me. If they plan to make improvements to my universe this way until it's as robust as a simulation game then I'm all in! If 2K is smart about this, they could even monetize new storyline actions via DLC.

Love what I'm hearing about Universe mode!!!! All we need is dual title entrances.. also it shouldn't matter which two belts you have... That would make it so much better!!!

The most interesting part of this is something I brought up in this very comment section before. Assemble making videos praising creations that looked nothing like their real life counterparts, and I brought up the fact that I felt like 2K22 went back a step to how it used to be, where CAWs just didn't look as good as in game wrestlers. The fact that they apparently fixed this already? Is quite intriguing. But yeah...more than anything I'm hoping the numbers go up. At the very least double it.

Universe mode in 2K22 got stale for me pretty fast and the rivalry system is so busted. I had mid card rivalries that lasted 6 months and rivalries that you manually set up never start at all. Hopefully, things go smoother in 2K23

We need for gm, a way to make the text bigger, it's very hard to see if you have a far away tv. Mine is a big screen but the text is tiny. Also, classes should be color coded. Bruiser and fighter symbols look pretty similar, especially with the aforementioned problem of it being too small of text.

As much time as I've been putting into 2k22's universe mode and my custom wrestlers I was willing to wait a year before touching 2k23. But I feel like it's going to be hard to not want to pick it up right away. And spend another several weeks recreating my stable

Wait... his debut match is included?? 😱 that means we are getting Kurt Angle back! But why is prototype Cena DLC then? I guess it's just another version? Allt the others have their ovw versions so maybe thsts the one we are getting in the pack while we get debut Prototype Cena in the Showcase... anyway i'm really happy Kurt returns to the game he was one of the biggest and saddest cuts from 2k22 also knowing that we only get Cena matches that he actually lost is a big clue which matches will be included 🤔 there was also an interview where they talked about the roster mainly how excited they are that so many superstars returned because now they are able to include those they had to cut from 2k22 which i guess refers to Hit Row, Bronson Reed and Bray Wyatt who were all confirmed to be cut very late in devolopment! 😍 hopefully they are on disc and not DLC

for wargames i bet the third arena they aren't wanting to spoil will be the wcw wargames arena also for universe mode with the cut scenes i really hope we at least get create a tag team entrance and stable entrance and the return of create a single entrance and of course long shot but custom music as well

Things I'm glad we got for 2k23: 1. The Retro OVW inclusion of Brock, Batista, Cena and Orton 2. In-Game Kurt Angle and Rob Van Dam (so we don't gotta use those god awful creations) 3. The fact they're keeping Goldberg in the game is something I'm grateful for 4. The Smackdown arena with the fist and Raw 2005 arena (hopefully with all the transitions and show options this time) 5. Updated Universe Mode

Hopefully we can stack tables again unlike 2k22. Cena VS Edge in a TLC match at Unforgiven 2006 should be in the showcase 🤞

The universe stuff sounds Awesome. Reminds me of create a story. Not sure about the John cena showcase. If I’m being honest I would rather play as cena and see his legacy be very out there.

I hope showcase mode is a lot longer than in 2K22. I believe they phrased it the same way as 2K22 where they said they're taking "key matches" and putting them in, that really only tells me that we may get like 6-8 matches, when John Cena has had way more "key matches" Alongside his 2002 debut, i'd like to see WrestleMania 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30. The couple after that we can take or leave, plus he's had some stellar matches on Raw and Smackdown, like when he faced Chris Jericho on Raw in 2005, or when he teamed up with Undertaker and DX to take on CM Punk and Legacy on Smackdown in 2009. TL;DR, I really hope they don't skimp on us again this year with showcase mode.

This one is an improvement over 2K22 although no mention of having our own custom music for entrance themes for CAWS and Creation Suite. That has been asked for many times but never delivered to this day.

I hope we can make custom Wargames matches like elimination Wargames

The addition of WarGames has to be the most ambitious thing to happen in wrestling games in ages.

I’m going to just take a guess and say the third arena/venue will be Fall Brawl. Fall Brawl,NXT and Survivor Series are the only ones to my knowledge that has ever had Wargames

I hate to be so pessimistic about this game, but I'm not holding my breath that universe mode will improve. What worries me is that the 2k devs usually say the quiet parts out loud. Sure you may be able to pick actions before or after the match. However there's no talk about other actions to choose from like interrupting promos or backstage segments. Usually when 2k devs describe a game mode or an update to a game mode. When they say nothing else but a few key things over and over. Expect that to be it. I think we will only get to select what happens before and after matches. I could/hope I'm wrong, but I don't think this will be what we want it to be. Remember how they described superstar mode? Well, what they said was what we got. That's why they didn't elaborate more. There was nothing to elaborate on. For an interview about a game mode that has needed some serious updates for years now, to leave it at selecting actions before and after a match is not good enough.
