Given that the modular table has lots of individual SKUs it will be near impossible to create the right quantities of everything to finish it and not have stacks left of one type that can’t be sold. Making some cool dice towers, GM screens, etc.. will be a lot easier to stock and sell.

Maybe do a video showing what elm accessories look like next to the different wood options being offered for those of us who took advantage of the holiday bundles but haven't gotten our tables yet. This would help me make my decision on what to switch too.

As an elm backer, I would have upgraded to Cherry or Walnut. But I'm just as glad I've been able to enjoy my table for the past two months!

I think you guys have one other major problem you need to handle outside of wood switching. and that is the chairs. I ordered chairs that match my elm table. and if my table is no longer going to be elm, i am going to want chairs to match the new wood. @Wyrmwood

As a backer of the first MGT kickstarter, I went through a similar customer experience to this. I had ordered the espresso maple, but because the staining supply and quality changed, I was offered an upgrade to cherry. It was SO worth it. The table is beautiful in color and absolutely gorgeous. If you're a backer of MGT2, I would recommend taking up the cherry offer because it is just such a beautiful piece of furniture, especially after it ages into is rosey brown color.

Cherry is a beautiful and durable choice - but people should know that it will patina over time. All woods do, but cherry in particular will turn into a deep brownish-red as it ages.

HOT TAKE: I know Doug appreciates hot-takes so here’s mine 🧐: The most affordable darker wood option will nearly always be the most popular. If you ran a limited run of Espresso Maple , you’d have maple flying off the shelves (or off the bunks?). Prove me wrong.

I will always be upset they took that option away. It feels like my table is useless now for any other accessories I would get because they won't match the table or any other furniture in the house. Also, reassuring that they'll continue offering elm despite the sourcing issue (while a different issue than why they stopped the espresso) still feels like a slap in the face. I absolutely regret purchasing the MGT with all the changes happening and do not recommend it to anyone who asks, which sucks because I really wanted to like it.

@@mehtalksI recall in a previous Wyrmlife they said they would offer espresso options to anybody who already had a table and wanted to match it but removed all options to order. Have you contacted their customer service to inquire?

I’m surprised you didn’t offer the white elm as a substitute, on the same level as the maple. It would make use of what you have in house and help eliminate that $24K oopsie. White elm is a nice wood. 😊

That presumes they can get enough white elm and I think that’s probably not true either. They mentioned that they needed 13 trucks or something and that white elm is was one truck full so it doesn’t solve their problem, it just complicates the logistics of offering swaps and upgrades.

I ordered an eastern elm table and was originally strongly considering paying to upgrade to cherry, but the uncertainty of how a cherry table would darken over time scared me off. Can we see what a 1-year old cherry table looks like?

It depends on how much sunlight it gets. If it's in a sunroom with old plain glass vs. a room with 1 windo with UV protective glass that's a big difference. 2 years min has changed so little that my new accessories still match. But it'll probably vary depending on where you put it

Well ash is dieing back in Ireland because foresters were doing their forests in a monoculture and this was leading to disease and infection, some mercologists are working on mushroom vaccines tho 😅 so probably a similar situation 🤔, poor trees we don't do enough to care for them 😭

As a logger in Northeastern PA, there is no elm in the woods, cherry has been hard to move due to lack of demand and low price. If people are looking for a white wood white oak is an option but has a high price tag.

Proposed solution for the White Elm: Saw it down into small pieces, burn a Wyrmwood logo on them, don't worry about sanding or finishing, and list them on the website for $200 each. Say some stuff about it being limited quantity or something.

I got my table in maple as I wanted a more muted theme. As I wasn't sure a puduk table would look as nice in every room. But if given the choice i would update it cherry.

Wave 0, I should have my table already this is such BS! If I wanted maple I would have ordered maple $100 gift card on a $3000 order is an insult. I've bought 6 chairs that wont go with cherry, I can't return them as I purcashed them long ago as I fully expect to have my table already, also cherry will also look weird in my kitchen. I do like walnut but its close to double the price of elm and even with 20% off its still going ot be around $2000 which I don't have.

We order the Rustic Elm Hex. Estimated Delivery was Oct. Delayed due to topper block still being in production. Now we're still waiting 4 months later then they run into this shortage. We so tired of waiting and we don't like the other options

What it looked like was an early death. Which is exactly what happened to Humphrey Bogart. Dead from esophageal cancer at 57, they had to remove his esophagus, two lymph nodes, and a rib. Yeah, looks like fun.

Wife and I ordered our table and some accessories in Eastern Elm because the color/tone matched our fireplace mantle and built in bookshelf. We got the email this morning. While we both prefer the way the walnut looks, going to make the switch to cherry for the same color family

Y'know... Now that I recall, when I bought a really nice Amish made bedroom furniture set in 2019 they told me then that the set was being discontinued because it used elm and that wood was becoming too endangered to use on furniture anymore... huh.

But basswood/linden is relatively soft and it's grain is very much not visible. Which makes it a great carving wood, but not as a replacement for elm given that the selling point of elm is it's visible grain.

@@creepincat7399 I've contact customer service, I made what I believe is a fair counter offer to what they are offering as cherry is a no go for me and I don't want maple and the price difference with the discount on a $3000 order of elm to walnut is around $2000 which isn't happening because I don't have $2000 laying around to spend.

The MGT builder on the site doesn't seem to have been updated with both Elm and Rustic Elm being available and listed as the base/cheapest option. Could be a smart move to switch the basic wood selection to whichever wood is easiest/cheapest to get at a given time. Similar to how Tesla handles their car paint options.

We took the offer to upgrade to cherry. That said, along with the explanation video, it would have been nice if you'd had more wood samples to compare to help us decide. Like aged cherry versus aged elm. I could have used a few less jokes and a few more product shots.

Just an FYI, how cherry ages is heavily dependent on its exposure to sunlight.

@Ropya -- Yeah, it's all variable. We're planning on using our MGT 2.0 as a kitchen table close to south facing windows, so it's going to get a fair bit of sun. When Wyrmwood discontinued espresso for MGT 1.0, they made a similar offer. In that video, they showed a table-top that was like darkish medium brown and they said it was cherry, which surprised me. In other videos, I've seen people showing cherry after exposure to sunlight and I feel like it ends up everything from golden to deep brown. So I was hoping they could show off something aged from their office. Our cabinets have a dark "cherry" stain, so it would be nice if the our new table ages to match. We originally went elm in part because of price and because we were worried the cherry would end up too yellow.

I’d be alright with a simple oak. I know it’s heavy af but I like oak and the way it looks. A prophecy in oak with matching seating would look pretty decent to me. Note: I live in Maine so I’m constantly surrounded by Oak and Pine and pine is a bitch

Oh man. Elm is even softer than cherry and I’d never make a piece of furniture out of cherry. It can be dented by fingernail pressure. Accent wood only or just stuff that doesn’t get fucked with much, like picture frames.

Why not switch to white elm, if it's the same price? I know red elm is the normal elm that wyrmwood uses, but if they agree to just having white elm knowing that it won't color match, if their entire table is white elm, it'd be a unique mgt! Obviously if they're upgrading an existing red elm table, then that's an issue, but something tells me that they aren't talking about upgrade kits... Idk. Not a woodworker, and I currently dream about the day that I have enough money to purchase an mgt or even an mg desk. I hope all works out! Sourcing that particular wood is something strictly outside of wyrmwood's control right now, so I say good on them for trying to make it right with their backers.
