X (2022 A24 Slasher) Spoilers After Initial Thoughts 

Loved it! X feels like a vintage 70s film, yet so original and truly scary! I’ll be watching this one again for sure

Amazing discussion! You guys went into depth about this movie which is something I really appreciate as it definately deserves the talk. I LIKED X but didn't LOVE it like most people did. Partially, because I was expecting something more paranormal based off the trailers I saw beforehand. Then also I didn't see it in theatres to get the full experience. It was a good movie I'll probably need to revisit the movie to appreciate it a bit more

Did not expect this movie to be as emotional as it was. It had the 70s vintage look and feel to it while also having the artsy look and feel of an A24 movie it was the perfect combination

I've been hyped for this for a long time. Loved it. Lived up to my expectations. His best film since The Innkeepers and probably even better. Not only is it thematically rich, but it balances conflicting tones very well. Is it mean spirited? Of course. It's a slasher. Still, it's very humanistic. You can tell that Ti West has empathy for his characters.

REally enjoyed this one btw. Had the entire movie theatre to myself which is the way to see a movie. First time going to the movies since the pandemic and I had a great time with this one. One of the best slashers in years IMO.

Just watched it yesterday through Amazon Prime, two things i noticed after the second viewing Mia Goth plays Maxine and Pearl and the foreshadowing of Bobby-Lynne’s demise in the very beginning as they’re leaving the trailer. If you only watched it once you wouldn’t remember it.

This was really good IMO. It was everything The Visit wanted to be. I went into it totally blind as well and I think that helped out a lot for me

I'm in love with the throwback feel. I love the way it looks. It was sexy when it was supposed to be and I love how it could actually be an example of the current times

i saw this yesterday. really great film. glad to see Horror in theater even though there was only 6 people in the room. rad trailer at the end. i took your advice and bought Alone With You. i didn’t even notice the budget restraints. very enjoyable.

Enjoyed the movie. Nice love letter to old school slashers. The director always does a great job of nailing the 70’s and the energy of the time.

I just watched this movie. I loved it.. I literally had the same idea after the first kill and thought this is exactly opposite of scream, and stayed away from most horror tropes.

Really cool review/analysis. I have finally managed to see X in a theater last night, I really liked it. Great take on classic exploitation and slasher flicks, great take on themes of elderly, of religion, as well as on oldschool porn, which has so many parallels with horror of that time. This way Ti West not only honors hicksploitation/folk/rural horrors and slasher like Texas Chainsaw, Eaten Alive (the aligator!) or Friday The 13th, but also some horror creators that have learnt the craft working on porn. One of the examples could be Wes Craven, who was raised in a strict religious community, then worked in porn films to learn, had a chnace to make horror and becme one of the best genre directors :) The one thing that distracted me a bit was Pearl in prosthetics and make up ;) I guess I would like to see a real old actress instead. Cheers!

I remember the poster for this movie vaguely. But I'm the glad I never watched the trailer because they give away so much. I watched it last night on Netflix and definitely thought it was pretty good. Definitely different.

Just watched this today just me and one other person in the theater. They left as soon as the credits started rolling. I waited and at the end there was nothing so i got up and started walking out and all the sudden the post credits scene started! I didnt realize it was a trilogy so that explains while it felt unfinished to me. I enjoyed it

I just watched the trailer for Pearl.

Mmm. It sounds to me from what Ive read about it that Pearl and Maxine are the same character, as if Pearl is somehow a projection of how Maxine sees her life becoming in a sense, and thats what drives her - I know theyre played by the same actress. Sounds interesting, might give a look at some point.

🤔 *¿ SUPER NATURAL component ?* 🤔 This is *_100% spitballing & supposition_* , but beyond the reveal that "Maxine" is the missing daughter shown on the tv screen via the preacher's televised show, there seemed to be a possible connection between "Maxine" and Pearl _(beyond both characters being acted by Mia Goth)._ I was considering if Pearl knew that "Maxine" was a _literal_ younger version of Pearl 😳🤔. "Maxine" was shown to be a character driven by the desire to live beyond the station in life which she had been born into. Both "Maxine" and Pearl at separate points in the film state that they are, *_"Sick and tired of not gettin' what I want."_* Then I wondered if there was another storyline reason _(¿possibly supernatural?)_ why Mia Goth was given both the roles of "Maxine" and Pearl. Pearl even says things to "Maxine" (¿her literal younger self?🤔) along the lines of _"I know you"_ ...I wondered if that could actually be taken literally? During the end credits, right before the post-credits *_'Pearl'_* prequel trailer, the music suddenly changes and Pearl can be heard repeatedly saying something like, _"If you do for me, I will do for you..."_ That is repeated several times to the point where _(coupled with the eerie/ominous music)_ Pearl's words sound like a incantation or offering of herself to "something" ?????😳🤔🙄 Ha...Total *spitballing* here, but I couldn't help but speculate on the possibility of a young Pearl character wanting to be a superstar so desperately that she makes a deal _("sells her soul")_ not only to the porn industry, but with a supernatural entity 😈😳🥴😵 ??? Something happens and although the young Pearl runs away from home and goes on to become _"Maxine" the cocaine snorting porn vixen,_ she ultimately has to _"pay the price"_ of the deal she made with the entity ("I'll do for you if you do for...'"). *WILD SUPPOSITION* and *spitballing* , but once again, there just seemed as if there coulda been something more in regard to "Maxine" and a older Pearl saying the same words in separate scenes, Pearl saying that she knew/knows "Maxine", the reason why the husband only watched that preachers show, and then the sudden eerie music/ominus soundscape change during the end credits when Pearl can be heard repeatedly saying (incantation like) something like, _"If you do for me, I'll do for you.."_ 😈 leading to the 'Pearl' prequel trailer. AGAIN, THIS IS ALL CONJECTURE & 100% SPITBALLING, but based off of all the aforementioned, I couldn't help but wonder if Ti West had some supernatural components in mind for the prequel and/or possible trilogy? 🤔😳... *SPITBALLING* .

This movie is a well deserved vehicle for Mia Goth. I thought this wannabe slasher movie had zero energy, a ridiculous killer, and dreadfully boring and pretentious cinematography. Basically, it's everything I expected when I heard a24 is trying to make a slasher movie with a director I could care less about.

I really did not enjoy this movie I don't know why people consider this a slow burn it's not there is no build up or atmosphere the charecters we're actual garbage (expected for a horror but these characters actually suck) you don't get an actual kill until an hour into the movie and when you do it's not too amazing the movie is basically old woman is horny but can't get piped so she starts murdering it could've been a great slasher but for me hit the mark entirely

A couple of good reviews and then no one can criticize a film. It is another mediocre overhyped movie. There is only one fresh idea which is an elderly couple killing. However, I am not buying this story of the very old couple on a killing spree. Dialogs and characters' motivations are vague. There are tons of jump scares ( where are the jump scare haters btw???) After the first kill, 4 people leave the boarding house to look for others yet non of them see their dead friend lying in front of the old couple's house. After the old lady touched Maxine in her room. She was covered in blood. Brittney Snow saw the old lady walking around naked in the boarding house after Maxine screamed. The film cuts to the lakeside the old woman naked and Brittany snow trying to help her as if nothing happened earlier. There are better films making homage to slashers like The Final Girls and horror about aging/dementia Relic ( 2020 ). Particularly Relic's ( 2020 ) aging mother story comes across as a creepy horror and it was way more emotional than this.

The product placement worked I bought a six pack or lone star beer and buying a six pack of shiner beer not bock tommorrow also felt sad for the killer and as a bi man I loved the nude scenes
