So badass man I want to do this mod very badly I found a 3D plastic printed cage on eBay to mount a 1/5 scale servo. Wondering if I can find the design and have one of my machining buddies do it out of aluminum. I bet that took a while to shape that block. That looks so sick man good job 💪👌
if you cut that receiver box out with that tiny Xacto saw, i applaud your determination. next time if you find yourself in the same situation, use a wire saw. Its a length of wire, with a handle at each end, that you slide back & forth, cutting through anything from metal to plastic. its great for odd shaped things like that cut you did on the Xmaxx. similar to a Gorrate

Haha thanks! Now knowing how and where to cut I can trim a new chassis is about 15 minutes. but with the way the aluminum locks onto the stock chassis I don't think I'll see an issue. I've already had it out multiple times with some big jumps and crashes. No issues!
This is how the truck should have came. Why is traxxas so obsessed with proprietary equipment?!? Nice job with the castle and savox electronics setup, hopefully traxxas takes note.

The 1210SG wouldn't have done the trick ? Quite torquey and faster than the 0241MG and no need to modify the chassis for a 1/5th scale servo.... Following this because I want to upgrade my UDR servo (2075x for a Savox small package servo)
Awesome mod I love it andirons looks beautiful sadly I am not at need of doing this mod because for me a stocks servo with metal gears is fine, nonetheless awesome mods and I don’t care what other people say
If this mod is done will a max5 still fit down low on the chassis with the 2028 motor? Or will I be forced to mount the esc in the location you have it?
Well I ordered the same servo and am going to tackle this project. What horn are you using? Also in an earlier comment you mentioned that aluminum brackets were bring machined. Is this something available for sale? Imagine that would save a lot of time.
Nicholas Wagner - the machine shop never came through so I wasn't able to get the parts made. as for the horn, I picked up a losi 5t aluminum horn. you will need to cut the length down though.
If you made that bracket with a drill and file. You shouldn't be working on rc trucks. You should be a heart surgeon. I think it is ridiculous that traxxas didn't fit the xmaxx with a 5th scale servo to begin with. There has to be an easier way then to reconstruct the entire front of the xmaxx to fit a 5th scale servo in it. Wish l had time to work on my truck like that lucky if i can find time to bash at all. I have to work too much to survive.
So basically this is just like Every other ‘upgrade’ for XmAxx. You have to butchet and weaken a peice of shit fragile truck even more for most of these so called upgrades to work, yet 95 percent of them are just as much low quality junk just like the stock parts. XMAxx us easily the worst peice of shit RC car made. Ricidiculous so many people spend so much money on a truck that only does one thing well, jump 40 feet in the air and break a different part every run
