I totally agree! When toad came in and kicked him through the glass display I thought that affected his leadership a little bit he knew there had a battle on their hands. He was unconscious for quite a while
It is amazing how many characters were perfectly casted. Logan, Magneto, Xavier, Cyclops. I can't think of anyone who'd be a better fit for those roles
@@RockSmithStudio Yeah the casting director knew his stuff. He even knew hugh jackman was the perfect wolverine despite not having hollywood experience and being tall. he was right in his choice
I wish they had more of a team dynamic while following the team but it was mainly Logan’s story. They could of made a movie after DOFP based on the team but nope that was to hard and had to use the kid actors
It does a lot to elevate this scene which is basically just six people standing still while one of them aims lol. Ad that's not me criticising it. I still think this is one of the most rriveting conclusions to a superhero film, but the Kamen score is admittedly what makes it.riveting
@@nickdavidelijah The phoenix force is something Jean is sensitive to and lays within her deeply hidden. In the comics and cartoons often certain dramatic events wake it up. So in this film the energy from the machine, which accelerates mutation, is probably causing her mutation to rapidly advance to the point that she can sense the phoenix force within her. Professor X tried to block it with his powers but the machine pushed it back to the surface of Jean Grey's mind. Hopefully that makes some sense? Lol.
I missed this sorta teamwork in later movies. Where they discussed strategies first. X2 did it also when they strategizing how to deploy Wolverine at Alkali lake
Even when I only knew the X-men from the movies, I always thought Cyclops was cool. I know there's really not much character here, but I just liked something about him. Wish he had more moments like this in these films.
Let's hope he gets to take his place as leader/strategist in X-men Dark Phoenix. If you're looking for good comics featuring Cyclops, I'd advise Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-men.
@@rp8812 Scott's laser shot was supposed to be plan B-he was only supposed to fire if Logan failed. So while Logan was still up there and trying to stop the machine, Cyclops firing his beam could kill all three of them at the top, let alone destroy the apparatus, so Jean asked him to wait.
Like how after this logan is thrown into cyclops leader role, sees how hard it was then realizes how much he missed cyclops when he says "Good to see you scott"
You know what? I actually dig X1. It's not perfect but I think it's pretty good. Wolverine and Rogue's relationship, Magneto's origin, the conflict of human and mutants, and this god damn scene.
yes at the expense of costumes and original characters thou. I think it was not worth it and that is evidence by the decline while Avengers (who were practically no one in the 90's) are on top.
@@bmwguy27able The Avengers had great stories in the 90s. Better than the MCU shit. I don't care for the costumes and all I see are A List X-Men characters here
@@civilwarfare101 no they really didn't. 90's xmen was the most popular. No one even cared about Iron-man Captain America etc, at all.. I'm talking about a fringe group of an already fringe comic book reading group. They were doing rediculous west coast avengers and other convoluted things while Xmen was in it's glory days. Compare Xmen animated series to the iron man show. X-men animated series was so good it brought back spiderman etc. That show was green lit because of the sucess of jim lee and others with the blue and yellow costumes.
@@bmwguy27able Who fucking cares about popularity? Its about quality but I am not even surprised that an MCU fanboy is resorting to ad populum. And "no one cares about Iron Man and Captain America". Yeah no one did when Iron Man managed to have 300 issues. Avengers Earth's Mightest Heroes was pretty good. Yeah and costumes are an indication of a quality of a story Also, Kevin Fiege even said the MCU wouldn't exist without the 1st X-Men movie
What a great build up to Jean's Phoenix Force. It was subtle in this scene with her suddenly feeling the awakening of her surpressed power that the mutation machine let loose. It became more appparent in X2. Too bad X3 was a let down.
definitely my favorites parts of xmen 1 ... it was just something about the emotions and need to help rogue that meant so much ... and I absolutely love Scott's leadership and making the call at the end, and finally the perfectly played theme song and connection to all characters.
When i was younger i always loved this scene it was extremely powerful and inspirational like when you work as a team to take down your greatest enemies in a harden battle.. i work with a team and that can make you heroic too.
I watched these moves when I was younger and loved them. (Still do.) And the one scene I remember the most and thought was most epic was this one.The fact that Scott can't open his eyes or he'll fry of her face but he trust her enough that she has a plan so he does it.. It's moving. Cyclops himself is my favourite character too, mostly by the fact that he can't control his power.
@@rileymclaughlin4831 what an incredible way to spend your time, okay little guy time to stop wanking to kitty porn in the basement and come rejoin society not that a woman would ever touch you but hey there are some men who could keep you silent for the rest of us.
2:41 I don't remember where I've heard this from. Originally, it was planned for Jean Grey to become the Phoenix was due to Magneto's mutation machine. Following Jean's reaction after Logan destroyed Magneto's machine, there was a quick shot of "orange static" coming out from her fingers, but it was edited out. That's why Jean suddenly loses control in the beginning of X2.
@@skipperg4436 I think both played their part in awakening Phoenix personality in her. Cerebro damaged psychic barriers and extended use of her powers on Liberty Island destroyed them completely.
@@willnicholson18 The machine's radtion awoken The Phoenix. If you watch this shot in slo mo 2:40 You'll notice how her eyes turn red (in a split second) like the same red eyes from X2
When the energy pulse from Magneto's device washes over the X-Men, Jean Grey is the only one who shows a physical reaction to the flash; this would seem to be the event that activated the Phoenix Force which would become so important in the next two movies. X-Men 2 (2003) expands on this in a scene where Scott and Jean discus how her powers had changed since the Statue of Liberty.
@@MarceloSilva-kp7mc it is the Flash tho. In X men 2. Cyclops said to jean " ever since in Liberty Island, you were different" is was Really Happening at this Moment. The Phoenix force was triggered
out of all the x-men film this was the best showdown. a literal David and Goliath moment really when you compare Wolverine and Magneto... David did get a little help though.
Seeing the first 2 film again after a long time, I appreciate their version of x-men a lot now and I grew to like them. If it wasn’t for The Last Stand and Wolverine origins and Apocalypse I think the fox x-men films would be much more appreciated and memorable.
I love Jean Grey I love her when she control her powers before coming phoenix. I love Magento as well when he controls everything with his metal powers. I love Storm when she controls the weather
Angel moon wel magneto was trying to sacrifice rgoys life she he could use her as pawn in goal in take over the earth as result rbots lifirce was being slowly drained nerly rapidly aging her to near death
Tyler Winkle Well they did save the world after all. They can only do so much. Marvel heroes aren’t perfect let alone the X-men but they saved the world leaders (& rouge and got magneto locked up. Misson complete) because if they got turned into mutants and died. It would’ve really been a war on mutant-kind.
My intro to X-Men was XM Evolutions where Cyclops was a lead and Wolverine was too old for Jean Grey. Imagine my shock when I saw these two battling it out for Jean Grey and how they character assassinated Cyclops.
Her telekinesis was not very strong at this point. Much shorter range. All she could do was stabilise Logan. I like the limitations put on their powers in this movie. The fewer limitations they have, the more easily they can bust the plot wide open.
This was as close to the fatal attractions scene from the comic as we got in the movies. Magneto was bending the adamantium claws like they were rubber and the clanging sound was Magneto pulling the adamantium from Logan's skeleton. Had he not been weakened by Rogue, he'd have succeeded.
I hate this scene cause Storm can f**king fly. She could have gone up there. Blasted Mangeto off that thing with gale force winds, flash frozen him even.
One Magneto could just magnetize himself to the tower so she couldn't blow him off. Two flash freezing him would take time. To achieve that you need to hit them with cryogenic temperature for a few hours or liquid nitrogen at -196 degrees Celsius. Even in the comics Storm could only pull that off while enchanced by a machine (see the Savage Land arc where she was kidnapped by Saurians and strapped to a machine and forced to create an Ice Age level storm). There is also no way she could focus that enough to not hit Rogue at that distance. Plus Magneto could attack her as well in thr time it took to freeze him.
Storm can generate powerful winds to blow herself from one place to another. It disrupts the weather, it affects her allies, and it isn't precise. I absolutely LOVED that they did this in this movie (even if it was most likely done to reduce the budget.) It makes Angel's power useful and cool. Storm can do enough cool stuff without being as good at flying as Angel. Sure, Storm gets better at controlling her winds, but I didn't really like that they reduced the surrounding wind effect when she's airborne. Nobody should be able get near her, friend or foe.
@@pauln6 Brother, genuinely, are we talking about the same thing here? Also, you haven’t read many comics, have you? And even if you haven’t, you didn’t watch the movies, not really, did you? Cause you don’t seem to understand what’s going on here nor what I’m talking about. Angel isn’t even in this movie.
I've seen this scene a million times and I finally just realized something...what about all the mutated marine life the field would have created before the device was destroyed?
The director need to shows everyone powers..by xmen logic..Jean can simply throw away Magneto n stop that machine alone with her telekinesis..but yeah Wolverine is the main character here
@@agumontaichi422 ya she have at least enough power to flip over magneto for a few secs before he could fly back which could give logan an opening in destroying the machine
I love this movie and the ending as well. But there are some HUGE plot holes. Storm could have just flown up there or blasted magneto with a bolt of lightning, or flash froze the disks. Jean could have telepathically taken control of Magneto. He didn’t have his helmet on. Jean could also have telekinetically stopped the ring’s or Freed rogue from the machine from where she stood. Or lifted Logan without storms wind. Etc etc. I never noticed the effects on Jean from the machine before. Kudos. X3 could have been awesome. I mean it wasn’t an awful movie, but it should have been SO much better.
I think it this movie mythology they're still young people with limited vesrions of their powers (or at least with limited refinement). With each next movie those powers grow stronger, which personally I find cool.
The movies literally addressed your character power plot holes. Do you not remember "Oh yes. A bolt of lightning into a huge copper conducter. I thought you lived at a school". The lighting bolt would have electrified the machine and killed Rogue. Jean was a fairly weak telepath in the first movie. She was only just starting to come out of her shell by the end of the film. It was not even safe for her to use Cerebro. While she could read minds it required a lot of effort and her ability to control minds even less developed. Also as stated by Cyclops in the second movie, prior to Liberty Island she had concentrate just to lift a book or chair. So there is no way she could stop the ring or lift Logan or mind controlled Magneto.
@@trueblue6201 and yet she had no problem telekinetically lifting toad and suspending him in the air before her in the Empire State Building, only a few minutes before. Storm managed to strike Sabretooth with a lightning bolt in a train station full of people, and hitting road’s tongue with one moments before on the balcony of the Empire State Building, so hitting magneto without striking Rogue or the machine was well Within her power. She also flew up the elevator shaft moments before, so she could surely have flown Logan to the machine without Jean’s help, just as Jean could have lifted Logan there without Storm’s help, like she just lifted Toad. Or Magneto off the machine and back towards the group. We all know this.
@@PaladinesAngel She caught Toad. She didn't lift him. She suspended him in place. Not the same as lifting him 20 feet in the air. Plus Wolverine is at least twice as heavy. Do you not know how electricity works? If she could hit Magneto (and no guarantee she could as he was not easily visible when they were making the plan), the electricity would travel through him into the torch and also electrocute Rogue. Not to mention it still would leave Rogue trapped in the machine which Storm could not safely destroy. Just because she can fly with control does not mean she can float someone with control. A kite is not always steady in the wind and Wolverine who is much heavier and less aerodynamic than a kite would have needed a lot of wind to get off the ground. Jean was steadying him for his safety.
@@trueblue6201 it’s exactly the same as lifting him. She suspended him telekinetically in the air. It’s all the same weight. Granted Wolverine would be heavier, but he wasn’t needed to rescue Rogue in the first place. Storm managed to zap Sabretooth and blast him back away from her in the train station without hitting anyone else. She could have also just blown Magneto off the platform with a gust of wind. It was all nonsense.
@@christianschmidt8476 Storm literally said, "I can't control it like that." And Jean said the professor was still teaching her to develop her psychic power.
Could be they couldn't see him up there. Also this was the disposable plan A. They still had plan B to just shoot it. The goal was to save Rogue not kill Magneto.
Not at this point. She was very limited in what she could do here. She needed to concentrate just to lift a book or chair. Holding Toad up required her full focus and that was holding him stationary and he weight at least 150 pounds less than Wolverine.
