while i kinda agree i think the ones i did on my grand marquis (4.6L V8) is also really good. H pipe with rear cats deleted, dual flowmasters. Sounds meaty like a mustang 4.6
Yup. I need to know for myself, since I have a 1989 Crown Victoria (which has the same engine, though toned down), and wanted to eventually put an H-pipe on it.
Wow they both sound amazing. H pipe has that muscle car sound. But the X pipe sounds more race car ,very smooth sounding Can't go wrong with either set up.
They do both sound good I def like h better on every test. It just sounds deeper and meaner to me. Sounds plain evil at idle. I got an h on my 07 gt500 with borla stingers omg does that 5.4 4v sound amazing with that setup.
An uncommon video actually taking the time to do the proper shootout comparison. Credit to the producers. I currently own a white 88 GT and I've gone through a lot of exhaust and I ended up settling on long tubes, H pipe no/cats, Spintech 6000 Pro mufflers and 2.5" piping with LX tails. The sound is on par with a modern Ford power plant and that's what folks think is under the hood but it's still the original 5.0 but crammed with a Vortech. Thanks for sharing!
.....because of your video, and the awesome comparison you did, I bought BBK long tube headers, offroad H pipe, and pypes cat back exhaust 200 cell count. H pipe sounds meaner and the meaner my Terminator sounds, the better.. thanks for the great vid!
Thanks for the comparison! They both sound great however I'm an old school guy who's been messing with these five-o's since the 80s-90's and still till this day. Although I'm still partial to the H-pipe!
I noticed the Xbox sound way better because it combines the pulses and makes it Go Zoom instead of blah blah blah. I cannot handle a Cowboys truck with glasspacks going blah blah blah. 🙂
Thee best exhaust comparison video I've ever seen as well. Most people don't understand that the true exhaust note can only be heard under a load. Not just sitting there revving it up. I have made my decision.
All ready been said but this is one of the best comp. vids. I've seen! thanks. Judging by the sqeeling tires I'd say the H pipe has more low end grunt. Both sound great.
Power and torque differences are very mininal. X might have 2 or 3 hp up top if that on the h and the h might have 2 ft lbs torque more at lower rpm but it's a wash I would choose based on sound not performance differences. The difference is so minimal you'd never be able to accurately test the difference between them performance wise.
My god this video just destroyed my bias towards either side. That thing sounds goddamn beautiful, BJEEZUS! So good, amazing job on the video it’s the best I’ve found, so straight to the point!!! 👏👏👏
NOTHING will compare a TRUE x pipe to an hpipe. Xpipes make any car sound hot as fuck LOL. This hpipe though is actually awesome. Little more throaty and bassy but with less pop. To be honest, I was typing this message and sudden the hpipe sounds came on and well... I freakin love it LOL. Dude must be geared REAL high like 4.30's or he's making some serious power ...OR has a super healthy damn near new motor. Great video!!!!!!!
They both sound great but I'm old-school and have been messing with these cars since the 80's and still going to this day. I'm just partial to the H-pipe myself.
That's true. It's a younger kids that like the loud raggedy Mufflers like the short Flowmasters that like the sound of the blah blah blah H pipe. But the x-pipe balances the two sides and makes one smooth sound like Zoom. It sounds so much better like I said it's only the what I call amateurs that like the glass pack sound like on a Cowboys truck. I don't want to hear Mufflers I want to hear a high horsepower engine so I want it to be smooth and quiet as possible
Contrary to popular belief, this is exactly how you should drive a Fox. That sound right before he stops for the h-pipe idle is what did it for me. I went with the h-pipe bc of this video. No regerts.
Rickish Monkey66 sounds better at idle. Sounds like a high school kids truck otherwise. I'd rather have something that sounds good otherwise instead of clap clap clap clap
I've always preferred the deep guttural sound of an h pipe. Years ago I swapped from a mac h pipe to a bassani x pipe, 2 1/2 in spintecs with both of them. I swapped back to the h pipe, a percentage point or less power wasn't worth the loss of sound. Not that the x pipe sounded bad, it just wasn't my thing. Y'all should hear a pro chamber, it sounds the most aggressive of them all.
Great Video... I've seen most off the shelf x-pipes look more like an hour-glass shape from inside. The flow follows more of a curve inside the chamber and actually can get split to go out either exit pipe. I've never actually seen an absolute X type intersection pipe like the one you've made. Nice job.
one of the best systems I remember installing in the 90's was bbk longtubes and doctor gas X pipe with borla mufflers on an 89lx. made the 5.0 sound like a high rev monster!
Dr Gas for the win. I live just down the road from where they’re made in Utah. Got that setup on my 92 hatch, Vortech V1. The x pipe sounds exotic above 3000 rpm. Oh….added the Boomtubes as well. Really amplifies that sweet high rev pitch.
That's what it's supposed to be, h-pipe add more torque and x-pipe a little more top end hp but I dont see any difference in the car. Except the air fuel ratio is a little more lean than the h-pipe ... I see more difference in low end torque by switching my dynomax ultraflow muffler to the borla pro xs muffler !!
Agreed and that's often a comparison I hear as well. Too raspy is another statement that I hear, especially if you've stuck a chambered muffler on. Chambers go with H pipes and Blow through goes with an X. Best rule of thumb.
My 86 GT has no cats, H pipe, Flowmaster 44s, and Ford Racing shortys. I think it sounds great on my fox and all Fox bodies. On my 99 GT with bolt ons, then with a Vortech S-Trim, then Garrett 67mm turbo, I had LTs, catted X-pipe, and many different C/Bs, but loved my magnaflow with my IRS swap, then obviously used the headers from the turbo kit.
@@codyvandiver3629 false everything sounds better with an h. I have one on my 07 gt500 5.4 4v supercharged engine with borla stingers it sounds sick af. I've had them with flows on more than 1 fox with windsors and they sounded incredible. I also had pushrods with x I have actually had both windsor and modular motor cars both with x and h on different cars I just think h sounds better across the board because I like deep mean throaty and aggressive. X sounds incredible too i just think h sounds better. The one that def don't need an x is the coyote its already raspy naturally the last the you need is to add more rasp with an x. Lol. Just my .02
I've had h and x on mod motors and windsors (I've owned 8 stangs) they both sound good but h just sounds better imo its deeper meaner throatier and more aggressive. Sounds like American muscle x pipe has a pinch of euro sound not bad just don't belong on American muscle imo but to each their own.
Nice comparison. Your old video actually got me into buying hookermaxflow mufflers. How do you like mufflers you have on now compared to the max flow And I went with the x pipe Something different combo with bbk long tube headers o/r x and hooker maxflow mufflers
I went back and forth quickly at the idling part at the end of the video and didn't hear a difference. The only thing I might have heard in the driving part was MAYBE the x-pipe snapped and popped a little more.
I've got a 2012 BMW 550i xDrive w/ a 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8. It makes good power but sounds like a little girls electric moped... 🤣 I'm looking to replace the resonator with either an X-Pipe or straight pipes back to the stock valved mufflers, hoping that'll make it sound "meaner". I understand the X-Pipe would give it a less raspy, higher exhaust note than straight pipe back to the stock mufflers... Would it hurt power much to just go with straight pipes, or H-Pipe replacing the resonator to get that DEEP RASPY sound, or do I need to go with an X-Pipe to keep from losing power on a small, Twin-Turbo V8?
Great video. I have a 1980 Firebird with true dual straight pipes leading into a pair of Flowmaster series 10 mufflers. Sounds nice. But- if I add a H pipe will it make it sound even deeper?
That was my conclusion completely. The H had good sound at idle. But the next pop smooth out those pulses and just roared the music. But young kids want it loud I've got a high horsepower I won't quite Mufflers that are smooth I want to hear that engine hit 7 Grand. I don't want it sound like a Cowboys truck glass packs LOL
