In this video, I will give you an overview of the Garmin Navigational System 530, and will teach you how to input a flight plan and select another airport in the case of an emergency.

I realize this is an old video but man am I grateful to have finally found a step by step simple to understand tutorial for this thing. There is nothing initially intuitive about this unit but after this video I was at least able to plan a route / fly direct to. Thank you! Now, if ya could just make another video for the rest of the buttons???

Your tutorial videos are the most helpful for me, you talk very slowly and explains everything into details. I love that, I am very new to this flight simulator but by using these tutorial videos I’ve learned how to fly really good using both air traffic controller and the GPS systems! I'm sure Garmin could have made a more cumbersome and convoluted UI if they tried, but this is a good effort. Probably top 5 worst I've ever seen. Great video tho! :D

Once you are in the air how do you get the 530 to update the destination heading after reaching a new waypoint? For instance, I followed the same flight plan you developed here, but my DTK is consistently set at the heading for the first waypoint and does not update to subsequent waypoints after I pass the first one. Thanks!

Thanks for the great video! I've got a question. What should you do if while approaching the emergency airfield you find that visual landing is not possible? How to tune up for ILS landing while in the air?

@@HalloumiFlies The only aircraft I can do instrumental landing is MD82. After approaching the airfield equipped with ILS you should recognize it's frequency and orientation. These meanings you can find on the Map (m button). And from there you'll be able to put them right to your plane's ILS . Then orient your plane into the ILS sector at the proper altitude. Switch off following GPS(!), activate instrumental landing and pray. Remember to take full control nearby the land or after touchdown.

I hate to say it but X-Plane's default Garmin 530 is just dreadful in terms of realism. RealityXP sorely needs to port their GNS 430w/530w onto that sim. Without those kinds of improvements, X-plane just gets relegated to the status of realistic eye-candy.

On FSX when, on the Nearest you can highlight the desire station / AP click enter and retrieve all the info about the Station /AP, how does it work on XP, cuz clicking on the highlighted Station/AP does nothing ???? besides the Build in G530 doesn't get you the complete information like ILS frequencies Etc

Jason, I enjoy your video’s, but i feel that you should pay attention to your power settings, v-speeds, etc. You run the power for the 172 at 2700 rpm/100%, not a sound practice in the real world. Those Lycomings are expensive to replace or rebuild. Power in flight should be 55-75%, 2300rpm is gentle on the engine. You need to slow down prior to applying your flaps, the white arc on the airspeed indicator is acceptable flap operating speeds. Be mindful.

First of all the Xplane 530 is not a Garmin GNS530. Secondly there are differences between the two. For example xplane doesnt have the Aux page that the real unit has

Thank you, Jason. Your videos are great! They are easy to understand. I watched several of your videos so far as I am just getting started with xplane and flight sim. I have a question. In one video, you showed an FMC using the B737. In another one, you showed the use of the G530. You said there are 3 parts: one is the MFD and another that seems to have an FMC function. True? So, I wouldn't need to have a separate display for an FMC in the C172, right? Thanks Tony

Your videos are great, however I used your technique and my Cessna does not follow the flight plan, also when I start a new flight the old flight plan is still in the gps I wish there was just an easy way to erase all old data (flight plans, approach etc)
