Another video on using the Air Traffic Control in X-Plane 11. Thanks to the ATC, a large jet flew past just before landing (~22:20), making things a bit harder.
I dabbled a lot of FS back in the early days and all I had was a flight plan using VORs to go from one airport to another. Thanks for showing how to fly in XP11 using ATC. Can't wait to get my hands on one!
That video was very helpful, thanks! First time Flight Sim user and I know how to take off and land, but that's about it. Your video has given me the confidence to do more than just circle an airport lol. I'll start by copying your flight :)
This helped me so much because I just started the x plane realistic things and am planning oon becoming a better pilot, so this helped me greatly by learning and understanding the Cessna aircraft better :)
I purchased xplane 11 prior to doing my research unfortunately. So with buying a new desktop and learning I require an adapter for the monitor connection, for my older monitor, I hope to install the program shortly and learn to fly. Great video. I learned a lot!
Hi Jason -great video. I have been flying FSX since its birth and have flown XPlane since V8 and have always found the ATC on XP either non-existent or an annoyance but your video here with XP v11 gives me another perspective, demonstrating that the ATC does indeed work and pointing out bits of the 172 autopilot that I had not noticed before. Now I can catch up with more realistic flights vying with FSX , notwithstanding the odd heavy being directed through my flight-path :) - do people really think that the default ATC on FSX is perfect? - I must smile at the odd comment below to the actual perfection of your flying -hey, nobody is perfect! Your lesson worked fine for me. Thanks a million - worth a subscription!
Fantastic job, I really learned a lot. Yes, there are some things that I would like changed in the program it will come as more people are requesting changes. Thanks again.
Well, it was eye opening in the sense of how amazing XP11 is. I installed it and am learning it little by little. I use 10.51 more because I know it well, but 11 is certainly compelling. Your PC video quality is very high because the AFL 172 looks beautiful. I'm still trying to make it work nicely with both 10.51 and 11. Not easy.
You have done everything very well ,The only think I recommend on the Turn coordinator when turn ,make all of your turns Standard Rate turn per IFR .Thank you
Excellent..of all the vids I watched on ILS approach this is the one I learnt the most from as you went through methodically from soup to nuts. Thank you sir. edit:Was expecting you to show the glide path on the map and how did you know when to activate nav on approach?
Just got started with X-Plane. Your videos are extremely helpful. Can you tell me what keyboard commands you use to zoom in to see the airport and also the Cessna cowling?
Thanks for sharing. I'm a private pilot with about 200 hours of SE time. Going to be using X-plane 11 to "pre-fly" my short cross country flights out of KGAI. Real world ATC would have been busted for that oh-shit moment when the 737 buzzed overhead. I imagine your plane could have gone inverted, but wake turbulence is unpredictable. BTW, I find landings and non-autopilot aircraft control in the sim is far more difficult than in the real world. There's no substitute for the visual perspective, sounds, etc. Of course, sim is a whole lot less expensive! It would be nice if sim let you change your aircraft number and the readback voice, but that's not a game changer.
I'm simming on the Rift. I'm using flyinside atm. I've always used FSX but FSX kept crashing for me, probably an OOM error. Can't really imagine going back to simming flat after trying it in VR. It's a whole different ballgame. Next step: get my PPL and an old Cessna 150 :)
Thanks Jason just what I needed , getting XPlane installed and learning .One question , the Autopilot turn on and off keyboard commands ? Yes do it theru Yoke .Maybe Video you did on that ? keep up good work.
Hello Jason and thank you for useful video you have been shared with us I have an question about what kind of computer and program to run this game smoothly you will recommended?
Hi Jason, I learned many thing from your videos but, I have a question - When I disengage the AP the plane start to move and wobble out of the runway. What is wrong with me?
X-Plane 11 is, as a lot of people know who have this Flight Simulator, so realistic. So even if, like me, you never became a commercial pilot or your love for flying is an important human aspect in life you always can pretend being a pilot. And using all the instruments as it should be. Thumb up from The Netherlands.
I was looking at your videos : very interesting ! I subscribe. I also use X-Plane 11 since two weeks after X-Plane 10. Where can we change the voice of the pilot on X-Plane 11 ?
As a real world pilot and plane owner, I noticed that you adjusted the flaps on final at a speed of around 130 knots indicated air speed (KIAS). Trust me, if you did that on a real airplane, you would rip the wings off or at least cause structural damage to the airframe. If you want to fly with realism, it would be to your advantage to learn the markings on the air speed indicator. All those pretty colors are put there for a reason.
Hey Jason, great video. Question how did you get those voices with atc and the pilot? I'm currently running xplane 11.51 and since i got the sim last year its the same boring robotic voices.
Hi Jason. Thank you for all your videos, they are very helpful. I have 2 questions:. What is the plugin for for the yellow arrow that shows the way for the taxi, And is the traffic control a plugin or is it standard in x-plane? Thank you and have a great day. Gilbert
For some of us having Mac computer and we don't have something like ATC, and world traffic setup. Would you explain another video about Mac computer please?
I set up my cameras as in your video and it worked great! I would like to know if you can tell me how to program in a key to turn autopilot on and off. I can't seem to find anything on this in settings. I don't see a setting that says autopilot on / off. Any help or info is appreciated.
Looks like you were originally tuning-in to the ILS frequency for RW-25 Right on NavCom 1 with 111.10 at the 20:50 mark, but then your radio configuration ended-up tuned-in to RW-25 Left on 119.90 which is probably more consistent with standard landing procedure at LAX. I think they generally take off from the 2 interior runways 25R and 24L and land on the exterior runways to help with separation. There apparently was a major fatal accident that happened on 24L in 1991 when a 737 was cleared to land and it hit a twin turbo prop waiting for takeoff on the same runway further down the runway. The FAA recommended separating traffic that way but they apparently did not put it into practice until 2004 when another accident almost happened with a 747 landing on the same runway 24L and 737 was lined up and waiting for takeoff 200 feet beneath the path of the 747 landing right above it. Talk about wake turbulence! Anyway, appreciate the the video and you sharing your experience using ATC and AP in X-plane. I picked up a few tips on some things with waypoints in the maps feature and using AP for headings, ascents, holding altitude and the ILS. I know the purpose of the video was to show those features and not how to execute a perfect flare on landing or turn away from wake turbulence on final approach after you had spent time recording an entire video demonstrating other features. Those pointers are helpful in their own way but we should all be willing to show a little humility and grace towards others in the aviation and sim community who work to share their knowledge by recording, editing, narrating and uploading videos with helpful content. Even a seasoned, celebrity actor and pro aviator like Harrison Ford can make a mistake like missing a runway and landing on a taxiway at KSNA. Aviating, navigating, communication and flying in complex airspace is challenging and good pilots never stop learning things in the industry, ever. Keep filiming, keep sharing, keep flying!
Hi Jason, really like your videos. Question about the landing on this vid. when you set the Approach and Nav on the AP is it taking the information from the flight plan to know how to bring you in ? Sorry still new to XP11
Hi Craig. This airport had an Instrument Landing System (ILS) thus pressing the APP+NAV along with having the radio tuned to the correct frequency allows the plane to pretty much fly itself down to 200 feet.
Enjoyed the video and your patient voice. Somehow I turned on the green high lights on the yoke and don't see where you turn it off. What is it used for? I made a plan and reached the airport in route but when I got there the controller kept me in a hold pattern at 2000. Seems like I was waiting a long time in pattern. What should you do....almost out of gas.
I noticed that, I always have the lockheed blackbirds crash on mine all the time ha, how do you get jets flying around? I only have other Cessna, and Blackbirds?
If you want other planes , that will fly around while you are playing , then you will need to install X-LIFE , it is a plugin , there is a free version and a pay ( extended ) version , but the free version is very very very NICE ! You can download it here : jardesign.org/x-life/www/ *NOTE* ..... It says ' For X-Plane 10 ' but it also works for X-Plane 11 !
This is exactly the scenario I have a question-comparison with FSX...How to bring up a text on top of the screen showing heading, speed, etc...on x-plane...Thanks
I'm learning a lot thanks to your videos. I did this exactly as you did and worked just fine. Then I tryed it in my home base flying from SCEL to SCTB and the ATC take me directly to a crash agaisnt a hill. I don't know why. Maybe I should have set a route.
