Great review Q8! I'm a member of the Dutch Dakota Association for years now, to help to keep a Dutch DC3 alive and flying. And I can tell you: it is fantastic to fly in this beautiful and iconic bird! Tnx for the vid.
Thanks for your hard work making these videos for the Sim community. Between you and Thomas Rasmussen you make some of the best looking flight sim videos. Thanks again and happy flying!
Excellent video. I just purchased the DC3 for X Plane 11. Haven’t had a chance to fly it yet. Your video has inspired me to give it a try ASAP. Thanks for posting!
Great review my friend! ;-) The sounds and exterior of this aircraft are extraordinary, particularly for an aircraft in this price range! Also, great landing buddy, despite low ias :-D
Thanks buddy ;-) I really like how this aircraft handles up in the air. Though I am a big fan of study-level systems simulation, this aircraft is immense fun to fly.
Today I woke up thinking about buying this beauty (DC3 is my all time favorite plane), and... I found this freshly review from you. So... when QBPilot talks, I listen. I going to buy it RIGHT NOW. Thanks for another GREAT review! Off topic question: are you using SkyMaxx Pro 4 in this particular video? Or XEnviro?
Very nicely done. I have enjoyed flying this aircraft for sometime now and the developers have been very receptive to inputs by the community. A wonderful rendition of an historic flying machine.
Notice the prop twitch while cold and dark. I'm seeing this on other prop models in XP11. I wonder if it is something coming from XP11. I've gone as far as to remove my controllers to see if it was spurious input from throttle control, still does it. South Africa has a huge history in civil and military aviation with the DC-3/C-47 going back decades. Even gone as far as designing our own Turbo Dak, the Braddick, not the Basler. One can see the differences between the Braddick and Basler, rounded engine cowlings, longer forward protrusion of engines, all wing tips still rounded, and longer extension of section between wing root and nose. I've had the good fortune of flying in a SAAF C-47, from Waterkloof AFB in Pretoria to Cape Town, in my very young uniform days. A hard and noisy flight, definitely one needs ear plugs or cans, of 6 and a half hours, normal commercial jet take less than 2 hours. And in second seat while testing radios and RADAR with pilot, in my days of SAAF service as radio and RADAR technician. There is still a couple of restored civilian models that offer day trips on the weekend as part of an experience, includes meals on board, either a breakfast if early morning flight, or lunch if midday flight. But overall what an experience. Thanks for a great video.
Thank you for your kind words, and for sharing your experience. I am always thrilled to hear from real world captains. The twitch you see has nothing to do with your controls. It is an XP11 thing for sure. Blue skies captain!
As others have mentioned you do great videos, I always enjoy them. I was lucky enough to fly many hours in real life as young lad, not as a pilot but as a crew member going from Melbourne to Tasmania every other night.( Cargo Delivery) ..I like many others have done many hours in the excellent MAAM Sim DC3, and sadly this model is certainly no match for that model, I dearly love to purchase a good model but as you spend 99% of the time in the cockpit it needs to be detailed, authentic in all or most aspects, not just a knock off of some patched up old DC3. A truly fantastic aircraft, lets hope some one one eventually does it justice.
Thanks so much for the reply, I red the link and just now purchased the DC3, really great to see the developer supporting their great products , thanks for the of. Pete
I love this plane (the DC-3/C-47, not the XP version). The sounds in the decade+ old FSX version by Jan Visser and Manfred Jahn (that is free btw) sounds so much better and more realistic as well as the flying. Won't mention ground handling as that is beyond a joke in XP. Either way, thank you for taking the time to create and upload these videos.
Hi Osamah, your videos are always amazing. You are a very good pilot, and mostly on this mythic airplane. Thanks a lot for your work. your comments are also always excellent clear and precise. it's a huge pleasure to watch your videos :)
Great video. I consider this a collector's item. You landed this like a Pro! There are a lot of great liveries for this. From what I am told the autopilot is a true autopilot, I still don't have it figured out yet. Thanks
Thanks for this video ! Man ... I really love the ( old ) engine sound of this plane , It sounds legit ! Well you really gave me a real problem , because ...... if i decide to buy this amazing plane then i really feel the need to make a 1930's hangar ( or better yet a 1930's airport ) Thank you Osamah , for giving me a hard decision ! ;-) Now that i have seen this , i can't get it out of my mind ! XD
Great review I have been contemplating getting this aircraft for the last month but was sceptical over the low price. Do I jump or wait until X-Aviation release v2 of their DC-3.
I think the LES DC-3 will be in a different league. This is aircraft is great fun if you want to flying challenge without having to go into a study-level in depth knowledge of aircraft systems and startup procedures. It really depends on what you are looking for.
This is a great video! I was looking for it. I want to start X-plane 11 and this plane is my true interest, but I never used civilian simulators, (only Combat Flight simulator for years), and my question is: If I buy the X-plane 11... ¿have I all what I need to learn to fly the DC-3 or another planes in the game?. I mean, the complete manual for each one. Or, ¿where should I get trained for this game?. Regards and thank you very much for sharing this video.
I would rather you use full daylight for demos. It is difficult to see anything in detail. DC3/C47 instrument panels were customised according to owner's wishes so there isn't a standard panel.
HeadShake is ok , but for an amazing and super realistic experience use ' XPREALISTIC ' it is really worth it ! Look / order here : xprealistic.com/ ( you can also watch a demo / tutorial here ) And there is also a FREE version : forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/37101-xprealistic-lite/ I bought it the day it came out , and i think that it is a real " must have " I really love it ! Just give it a try !
Nice video, though I would've liked you to go a bit more in depth. I think you focused a bit too much on the flight rather than the plane. Otherwise great job as always!
Thank you for watching and for your comment. The reason for focusing on the flight is that the main reason VSKYLABS built this aircraft was to accurately simulate the flight model and so much the actual aircraft systems and startup procedures ..etc.
I lived in San Lu-is a-bis-po. Not Lu ey. Wikipedia often includes the IPA(international Phonetic Alphabet) on place name articles /sæn ˌluːɪs əˈbɪspoʊ/ if you're patient enough to look the IPA/English Key
Why is it xplane 11 and the older sims cant all recognize different pay aircraft exteriors? I hated fsx when youd fly a helicopter and everyone see's you hovering a Skyhawk...wierd
I see you've already been instructed that the correct pronunciation is San LEWIS Obispo, but if you want to sound like a genuine Californian, just call it S-L-O! 😀
