As this game continues to get more and more amazing looking with all the work that so many talented folks have put into it, I still chuckle at the fact that the bane of all the cumulative improvements remains to be those low FPS primary and secondary explosions 😂 I have an "ultimate" goal with this and with XWVM once it's completed of getting a motion simulator rig (from what I've researched it's looking like $4K - $4500 for a decent rig), along with a HOTAS setup, rudder pedals and a Vive (or other high performance headset) and playing these games in the highest achievable level of immersion.
I'd hoped that Squadrons would have been close, it was light years away from Alliance. Loved this game, and still just fire it up to view the intro. Seeing this just makes me dislike the "console dumbed" games further..... These old games were far more immersive too.
Looks amazing so far. Only problem are the microstutters, they were detrimental in XWAUpgrade aus well. Too bad Squadrons wasnt more open platform and further developed into the sandbox that is XWA
Hello. Sorry if I missed this if it was live. I hope you are well. Its been such a long time. So whats the plan now to release this as a playable mod or to use it more as a graphics showcase ? best wishes
Thank you. The number of changes that are possible today in XWA overwhelms us :-). We still want to release XWAXF Mod, but if it goes on like this, we will start publishing individual assets and everyone will be able to add what they want. We give ourselves some time to think it over.
@@talaris-uk Yes, we have a list of new opts made specifically for XWA. In addition, there are new special effects, planets, backgrounds. Almost like a new game :-). However, nothing beats the amount of opts created by the xwaupgrade team.
@@xwingfacility really happy to hear you will start publishing individual assets! not just because of the customisability, but because your eager fans can't wait to try it out, and this sounds like a faster release approach.
Thank you, but there's only YT1300 cockpit in WIP status. There is no Millennium Falcon cockpit yet. There is no problem to install the cockpit to the XWAU YT-1300.
After turning ray tracing on, the amount of frames drops drastically. However, with a small number of objects, the game looks much more interesting :-).
I would also like to add that due to the large frame drops, it is so important to optimize individual objects in the game. It takes a huge amount of time. And we still want it to look like it was made in 2023 :-).
Are there even any original assets left in the game at this point? And how much of the source code is still left untouched? When will this project reach the point that it can be considered a new game of its own?
The game engine is the same, all other technical aspects are handled by external hooks and ddraw. If you turn them off, the game will revert back to 1999.....and will stop working with today's assets.
@@xwingfacility It just looks so different hat it's hardly believable. Isn't the original engine abandonware already? Is there anyone who's working on rebuilding that old X-wing engine as a more modern open source port, like they did for Morrowind?
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7QGaWZdAGco.html Very nice torpedoes, in X Wing Alliance they always have a long tail behind them, Do you have a link for this animation of the guided missiles, or is that only available when your mod is finished?
Currently, I changed the models of torpedoes and missiles (they are different than the ones in the video). I will try to post a video of skirmish game with torpedoes and missiles in mind. ibb.co/30TfGFW
2:00 this part looks off, you are taking damage but its horribly unclear where is coming from. all good improving graphics but if theres no feedback for players to react to whats the point?
