Discovered this video while showing my kids one of the games I loved playing 20 years ago - I can't believe this game still has legs. Great work XWAU team, there are now a couple of new recruits in training.
@@Ambaryerno Ah, okay. Were you the one that wrote that detailed description of the X-Wing, as well, plus of it's performance, engines, etc? May be on webarchive... on Massassi Archive, or Darksaber X-Wing Legacy...?
Wow brings back memories; obviously, the work done here is quite impressive -- but also goes to show the skill of the original devs working with what they had at the time. Magnificent remaster!
Most of what the XWAU team did stemmed from the original OPT Project at Datamaster's website in the late 90's. I joined shortly after they named it, ended up being one of the site admins and forum mods, and helping out with the slicing research of the OPT file format. I also made some models with the limited tools we had back then...all of them requiring PCBasic and DOS to operate. Stealth was the first to make a viable OPT creator app, and Troy Dangerfield made all the existing mission editors for all the Xwing games. I assisted him with AlliED, which I suppose was my greatest contribution to the whole thing. Darksaber, Marcos Edsen, and many others at the XWAU site were originally part of the OPT Project. Some other notable names were: Lt Hag, Defiant, Woodzy, Durron, Connor, Demon, Rebel, Wedge, dreddnott, and many others I can't of offhand. Most moved on the XWAUpgrade site, while the rest grew older, got jobs and made families, never to be seen again like Datamaster himself. I don't personally know what happened to all of them, asside from Defiant, who I still talk to occasionally. They were all a great bunch of people, and with this project more people joined, never having realized that the XWA community was still there. What they have accomplished here, as well as the recently released Tie Fighter total conversion by Angel and company (which used the XWAUpgrade pack) is truly amazing. Most would remember me as Sheldon, Sr. Salute!
The 23 year old game engine , the game story mod and now the game models and remastering addons.. fantastic teamwork. Its hard to believe the level of detail those ships have, that's far beyond what the rogue squadron / battle for naboo / SW starfighter have not to mention the UI overlays. It is just nuts!
Its amazing the results people achieved with the old XWA engine. Although, even if looks amazing for this engine, still looks old school. These devs should do what the team working on XWVM is doing - adapting everything to a new engine, like UE4/5. This would push the project to unlimited boundaries.
Just watched this and bought X-Wing: Alliance from GOG; I can't find my old CDs, neither do I have an optical drive. This... this is amazing work! XWA was always awesome but I haven't followed progress since, I can't remember, 2007? It's unbelievable what you guys did. I can't wait to relive XWA as it felt well over 20 years... with gorgeous, state-of-the-art graphics! THANK YOU!
i got a newer version altought i did find back my original xwing-alliance (with all addons!) and tie-fighter expanded something something. and star wars rebellion all manuals/books and cards still (quick reference) in good condition. also ef2000, f22 and TAW. i kept those things from recaiving any scratches :). no idea if the any of the cd's still work after 30 years
Siete stati incredibili! Avete regalato un sogno a tutti noi appassionati di Guerre Stellari. Soprattutto a chi con questi simulatori ci ha vissuto bei momenti in gioventù. Grazie di cuore. 🙌🙌🙌
EPIC! I remember when I was a kid being really excited for the XWA mod and it just keeps getting better! I love that you added in a gunsight to make a legit 3rd person view! I always wanted that in game!!!! Please do a big fleet battle skirmish video!
Simply astounding guys. I am lucky enough to have started PC gaming when Xwing was first released and thus a love story with me and space sims was born... oh how I miss those glory years. Xwing, Tie Fighter, XWing Alliance , Freespace, Freespace 2. XWA was such an amazing story-driven experience and to see a team put so much heart and soul into upgrading it truly warms my heart. When it is finished I will install it and buy you all a donatebeer or two. I wish someone would remake TIE Fighter with a modern engine. :)
It's over. You can install it. Ok, it's always in development so it will never be finished, but the current version is stable and complete. There is nothing to be expected. Tie Fighter upgrade is on the way.
I play GOG version(with italian audio) with 3440x1440 resolution and it's fantastic :) And now I run to install new megapatch! Thank you! EDIT: Great work! I installed this new version. Configurator integrated in launcher is user-friendly and my problems with "dead zone" of my XBOX ONE pad is finally solved by deselecting "Enable small joystick movements" in Xwa Joystick Configurator utility.
The bloom effect is easily adjusted with Babu Frik's Configurator. You can choose from 4 presets: off, low, medium and high. Bloom is at a high level in this video.
BTW, if there is one thing I could say could be a long term project (that I would be happy to help with) it would be to try to make the last two "battles" in the outer rim against the Hurrim and then the leadup to Endor more "Epic". And Larger.
As an old man, one of my favorite things about the original Xwing game was that its FPS was absolutely flawless on average hardware specs back in the day it was released, as compared to say Wing Commander which was slow and extremely frustrating. I think I'll wait till they optimize the this upgrade, but it looks pretty in stills.
Hmmm...I remember playing the original game. I remember finishing a mission then went on to single-handedly take out the remaining squadrons of TIEs and more than one Star Destroyer with my A-Wing.
Do you having any tips for how reduce multiplayer lag or glitches? I'm trying to play via lan using ipxwrapper between two PCs. When using the S-foils key there is a brief pause in the game and on the host PC all the fighters begin to glitch in their movement/location. Are these things normal?
These games are so great. Tie Fighter remains my favourite, but XWA was such a great game. I never tried this update. But I bought XWA a while back on GOG to go down memory lane. I might try this. Will VR also work with oculus quest 2?
Will this work with the TIE Fighter total conversion (if that one is still available)? While I do like the thought of playing through X-Wing Alliance in VR, I think that TIE Fighter in VR excites me more. Or X-Wing, though that one would definitely need to have its missions tweaked IMO.
The new Tie Fighter Total Conversion (TFTC) will be released shortly and will be integrated into the new patch through an automatic conversion system (Palpatine Total Converter). For more information: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d8EbwANhJDQ.html
Something is definitely up because i am getting like 15-20 fps at the most. My system is not that ancient, and I shouldn't need a 3090 to run this mod. Even if I bump the resolution all the way down to minimum, and turn the bloom off in Babu Frik's configurator, I get low framerates. I am on win10x64, i74790, 32gb ram, gtx 1080. I did notice when I booted up the game in steam before I applied the mod that the resolution said it was 800x600, but it looked much higher. Weird stuff. I did run a FPS monitor, and it said I am only utilizing 5 percent of my GPU. That seems to be the culprit, but I don't know how to get it to utilize the whole video card.
I think it does, if it uses the same protocoll as Track IR. Look at this: forums.xwaupgrade.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=12551&p=166877&hilit=opentrack#p166877
@@dtmmtdindustries5986 I've Just test with open track and a custom made trackir with ps3 cam and it works fine ! It's Just amazing !!! Thanks to xwau team for this great work
Yes it does. You may download it both from Gog and Steam. I prefer the GoG version because it is easier to handle, you can install it wherever you want and it is more like the original... but once XWAU is installed, the game is identical on both versions.
You have to buy the X-Wing Alliance game. You may find it at Good Old Games or Steam. Than you can download and install the XWAU 2020 patch from www.xwaupgrade.com . New entry is the great Tie Fighter Total Conversion mod! It must be installed after the XWAU patch + Update 4. XWA > XWAU 2020 > XWAU Update 4 > TFTC
Wow what is this joystick? Seems sensitive, my issue is that my stick makes it almost impossible to play properly... And how do you follow the battle se seamlessly with the cockpit camera? Awesome
We added in the new options, controlled by the interface called "Babu Frik," the joystick emulator for keyboard, so you can play without joystick. We also had the mouse emulator, but we removed it because it is almost unplayable. I strongly recommend using a joystick.
Amazing work guys, you should be very proud!! How hard would it be to change the audio from when the other pilots talk and say '2, you've got a bandit on you', to have them say 'red 2, ....' or 'red leader' instead of '1' ?
In the available dynamic cockpits the old HUD is automatically disabled. Press "d" to toggle the old HUD on and off. In cockpits that are not yet updated with the new dynamic effects, keep the old HUD.
Thats really nice. And it fixes (to some extend) the major flaw I had with this game: It was way too slow for an X-Wing-simulator! There just wasnt any feeling of speed in the original game, even the original X-Wing game from the 90s was better in that. This one looks way more powerfull now.
Did you guys manage to solve the music bug? Every time I play this game, it will play the music for a few minutes, then glitch and loop two or three notes until I either restart the game or turn off the music. Unfortunately, it never lasts for a full mission. :( I really want a chance to play this game with the music working, because John Williams' music is a level of epic in and of itself.
At the www.xwingalliance.com forum you will find help for any technical problem: describe your problem, the version of the game you own (cd, Gog, Steam), your operating system, the joystick, Track Ir / Vr ... in short, the more information you provide, the faster the solution will be ;)
I know this is an out of date update. But for any one having this issue such as I did. It's a rudder problem. Enable in the settings and you should be fine.
Sure looks amazing! Too bad installing the 2020 Mega and the V5 upgrade patch bricked the Fresh install of XWA on my rig. Every time I click play, the game shuts down. Sofa king bummed.
I suppose that you own the Steam version of the XWA game. Never start the game from Steam. Use the Desktop icon created with XWAU installation. If you have trouble with the installation of the patch, please use the www.xwaupgrade.com forum for help!
Please run the game from Alliance.exe. Not Steam or other shortcuts. For some reason the game shortcut isn't being generated as it was in previous tests. You can then make an shortcut on the desktop for it. We're going to get that fixed asap. This is an example of where I mean "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars X-Wing Alliance\Alliance.exe"
