XBOX ELITE Series 2 Controller LB / RB Bumper Fix 

Me too im pissed had this shit for 6 months and have to use every ounce of strength in my index finger to get the LB to work

Both my shoulder bones were fine for over a year of solid gameplay on the daily basis, now what happens is I’ll be holding them down to cook a grenade and it’ll just throw before I let go of the button 🤦‍♂️

​@@UberMicroRepairs I just finished replacing both LB & RB bumpers successfully, all thanks to this video. The fact that you stated at 04:40 that two of the legs are anchors and two are contacts helped me once I got into a bind. Upon applying heat for ~ a minute via heat gun, then pulling my RB switch out, the front half of the switch came apart from the back half, and only the contact points came out. I foolishly then used flush cutters on the remaining two legs, and then spent almost a half hour trying to get those legs out of the board to no avail. Wick didn't grab it, nothing grabbed the legs out, tried multiple angles and small tools. Since I remembered you stating those were simply anchor legs, I took a gamble and used the absolute smallest drill bit I had (1/16") to carefully punch out those two anchor holes, then replaced the switch on that side (after replacing the other side which came out as unit with all 4 legs). Everything came back together great, and no errors upon putting the controller together... yet! Thanks again for the great video

Yeah stressing out the button can make it come to life for a short time. Another favorate is to fold up the trflon strip between the switch and button. This is a snake oil fix and won't last long at all! Buying a new controller is definetly the ultimate fix!

You could've just got some 99% isopropyl alcohol and dropped it on the white switches. You don't have to take the whole controller apart just the face plate

Hi, Hot air is they way forward with these switches. I have just had to do a No fix on a customers Elite 2 because thay tried fixing the switch with only a soldering iron and they have completly ripped the holes and traces, the hole are over double the normal size. For Hot air temp I use about 450C and pull on the switch and it will come out nice and clean. Then keepthe heat on and use a solder sucker to clear out the holes. Happy days! You may have damaged the connectors on the mainboard. There are four fingers on the left and right side that connects to the rear paddle boards.

To remove the switches with a soldering iron only! You need to get it as hot as possible 450C will do it and the largest tip you have. Even them it will be a struggle!

Geralmente os controladores do Xbox são muito bons em não ter problemas de conexão. Normalmente é o console e as placas WIFI podem ser trocadas.

Hotair is at about 450c and a 50% air flow. I use a PCB holder to keep the board still. I can't work on devices where they're skating on the bench.

Yeah it's a 50 / 50 dropping alcohol into the button and working it in. Chances are the issue will come back.

Can I ask how does putting alcohol on the buttons fix the issue? Genuine question.

@@mdk984 Don't know, it works for many things. I think there is a little pad stuck on with glue which can get pushed out of place, and the glue residue from the pad can get spread onto other components which can cause faults, the alcohol can help to take the glue off

Hi, thay are the same right through to the Xbox 360 switches. Make sure they have the metal fram behind the swich.

We have several fixes for the rear paddles on Elite 2 controllers.

The 1780 (Xbox One S) controller has PCB's that are basically made of card board. To much heat / scraping or forcing the component out can damage the pads VERY easily. For the LB / RB there is one signal trace coming from the button. The other three are ground / not connected to anything. Check the hole that has a trace coming from it.. I would guess that is broken.

You can get them from Amazon, eBay or Aliexpress just make sure the metal frame is behind the plastic switch. If it's infront, with repeated pressing the button it will punch the plastic button out from the metal frame. I got mine from a "direct manufacture" supplier in China who only sell in quantities of 2000pcs or more.

Hi, yes the A button is also a ver common issue. This can be fixed easily by either cleaning the contacts or adding about 3 small peices Kapton tape to the bottom of the button.

@@UberMicroRepairs Thanks. Sounds like a design issue then. I have a gen 1 Elite en route to you for repairs, but at least that's lasted a good while before developing a fault. It's frustrating buying Elite Series 2s only to have to send them straight back again.

Yes that will happen. Trick is to not knock or jar the board. That's why I use stand off's to gold and support the board.

@@UberMicroRepairs ultimately I got a working controller for $80. I even got a full refund from Microsoft for the original purchase amount. Had to fix the face buttons myself with a process I came up with but not my face buttons work 100% of the time despite the positive and negative contacts on the board being the issue.

We've see controllers with WD40 sprayed / applied to them.. We do not recommend WD40 to fix button or analog issues. WD40 is excellent at cleaning out grease packed into bearings or automotive use just not electronics.

@@csmkorn1 throughout this comment section and my own experience, using a bit of isopropyl alcohol can realy help with the issue

If they are broken check the fitment of the bumpers you might be ok. If the bumpers stick out then there is a chance you will catch them on somthing and break the bumper. If that is the case I usually replace the whole inner chassis.

Hi, I've only seen this when the signal wire has been ripped when removing the switch. Usually from just using a soldering iron.

@@sirstretchyboy69 nothing permanent. It seems like after a week or two it comes back. I was reading about how there are certain parts on the board...something about r24,u4, and d3...I seen near one of the spots on my board there was maybe a piece of solder that may have caused some bridging. I haven't had a chance to mess around with it yet. I had to put it down for awhile because I was frustrated.

About one minute It is shown in the video from 17:48 (when he begins applying heat) to 18:40 (when the switch starts to loosen from the board) to 18:51 (when the switch is removed from the board) and doesn’t look like there are and cuts or fast forwarding jumps in between.

@@UberMicroRepairs I saw a ridiculous sounding suggestion to hold down the trigger button and to BLOW into the hole as hard as I could towards where the bumper actually impacts its trigger. As stupid as this sounds....it actually worked. You seem like you know what you're doing so I am wondering if you can provide any idea on why in the WORLD something like that would work? It has been fine for over a week now.

Glad the video helped. Yes A & B buttons on the Elite 2 are iffy. cleaning the rubber conatacts in hot soapy water helps.

I agree with most you say. However these controllers are the best ones out there. We have repaired thousands and we replace the analogs modules and switches plus other smaller issues with more reliable parts. When we refurbish an Elite 2 (or any other controller) It is a night and day difference that lasts!!

You need to use a flat screw driver and just wiggle it around

@@T.Forsaken_Soul GOt it off but the bumper didn't work no matter what I did. Warranty was expired. Oh well.

BAD advice!! Don't use a screw driver you will mark all the plastic and it will look shit! Use something plastic.

If you can't get the cover off don't try desoldering lol...

You are correct and sorry to hear that. Send it back under warrenty? The LB/RB switches M$ use are not very good at all!

You're not wrong. IPA can help to bring the LB/RB switchs back to life but I've found it to be only a temporary solution.
