The PS4 controller is such a good piece of hardware, adding those sticks only makes it better. It would be the perfect controller if Sony used the same d-pad from the Vita and improved the battery life.
Here's the thing about the replacement sticks from Amazon/ebay..most are plastic not rubberized like the real X1 sticks. They're not OEM so the quality might be different from stick to stick. Which is why some of these sticks tend to get stuck to one side when using them and others work fine. That was my experience so what I did was take the sticks from an old X1 controller that I had and put them in the DS4 and they work perfect. No sticking at all. Real smooth.
The thumb-sticks on this generation of consoles are really good on both. I recently bought an XBOX One S and the thumb-sticks definitely hold up to the PS4.
I did a similar fix a few years ago with my 360 controller and some replacement sticks. One had become really worn down, was amazing the difference it made cosmetically and more importantly to the feel in hand. Also game me a chance to give the shell a good clean when I had it apart.
Love this video..Please do this for the new ps5 control, because the ps5 control has the same bad analog sticks as the ps4..the Xboxone control analog sticks are concave and 10xbetter ..witch is perfect for the ps5 control..

The added height will give you more precision in FPS'. There are thumb pads that attach to give you far better precision and add about ½ inch or about 10mm of height that helps FPS gamers a long way with slower and more precise shots (presumably for better sniping at least).
gotta watch the little springs in each trigger...sometimes they fly off when you pull the controller apart...modded mine with chrome sticks and dpad...
@RetroGameTech Hey great to see you're back! Have you ever had any experience repairing Xbox One controllers? After watching your videos in the past, I've always tried to repair my old/damaged stuff rather than buy new.
These feel great but don't last 5 minutes the rubber is far too soft if your ocd like me and like your pad clean and new but are cheap enough to buy lots, I bought the xbox 1 elite sticks but didn't like the weight and spring feel when the stick returned to the centre.
the convex shape rolls much better under the thumb. Feels more naturally then having the edge of the thumbsticks constantly rubbing against the underside of your thumb
anything we can do to increase the battery on this controller? I'll I do is watch netflix and I'm charging the controller every few days. I do the same in the bedroom with the xbox 360 and I'm replacing those 2 double a batteries every 4 months so a huge difference. I just want the fucker to last about a week like the dual shock 3.
I have greasy slippery fingers so I bought fresh new XB1 sticks thinking they'd be nice and grippy, nope. I do like the look of them and the height is good too.

Nope, there is clearance issues with PS1-PS3, the dynamiter of the stick is fatter meaning you won't be able to move the analog to its max, which makes most if not all games unplayable. PS4/X360/XBONE all share the same analog stick & PS1/PS2/PS3 all share the same analog Gamecube I believe has a smaller dome (the part under the stick that sits inside the controller)
CrudeGamer That's right, you can put an X360 thumb stick in playstation controllers but there's a big gap when you tilt the stick & it's when you put a PS thumb stick in a X360 controller there is clearance issues where the dome hits the pcb inside. + Original Xbox shares the same thumb stick as X360/Xbone/PS4.
I've opened up my controller multiple times and it worked perfectly, but only recently it stopped working after opening. I don't know how to fix it. Everything is in place and the ribbon cables are just fine. The controller won't turn on or charge. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, any idea on how to fix this?
The little copper fingers can get bent over develope ware lines become fatigued when constantly removed & re assembled become live float above the main ribbon ive got into the habbit of brushing them flat with my thumb even tryed brushing them forward adding a touch of supper glue under them but dont bother with that it didnt give me any joy i ended up cutting the warn end down cos 1 snapped off, then i turned it completly around for a fresh unwarn end, they can even ver toward touching each other or look unparall straighten that shit out. I use gerber dime slim nose pliers to grasp the blue tab & ribbon then strategically angle it to 1 side of the connector to not disturb the live fingers! Like the game operation. Ive bookmarked tons of helpfull sources on the DS4 ask & you will receive. If all else fails you can find the ribbon you need for say £2 it helps if you put it in the right way as well, shit sometimes happens lol. You will find the components dont give up on it. I fractured both my rumble motor wires clean off had to re solder. And had to replace a wrecked clear button circuit the touch pad surround wore through the L2 button copper. I get so pissed whenever I see how easily other people unplugged their battery. I tried to clean/fix my analog sticks because the left one kept drifting and the right one wouldn't turn at times, but my battery cord thing was so tight, and I kept pulling and trying to wiggle it out but it just wouldn't budge until I eventually pulled the whole thing out, the part that was soldered on so now my controller is useless. I really think I got a bad controller because it was really hard to pry open my controller aswell.
Yeah I can’t even get all of the screws to turn, except for one. I’m using a 00 Phillip’s screwdriver. Might just switch to Xbox completely or get an adapter to use my Xbox controller on PS4. The DualShock 4 is just really uncomfortable for me.
@@alexvswrld just use a really small Philips. And I like ps4 more tho. In a few days in getting xbox analog sticks in the mail, so I can test them out and see if I like them better
Artrix Overlord yeah I realized my mistake. You have to put a lot of pressure On some of those screws and then turn gently...just have to be really patient because I managed to finally unscrew three, but stripped the last screw due to being inpatient. I personally like the Xbox One thumbsticks better because they’re concave; the convex design of the PS4 sticks creates a weird pressure point in my wrists, that’s why it’s uncomfortable for me, even after only playing for an hour.
Why can't sony just make analog sticks from a nice material. On the ps3 the rubber absorbs all the oils from your skin making them horrible. I replaced mine with metal ones.
