You need something to fall asleep with because you are afraid of being alone with your own thoughts. It's very important to your mental balance and growth to sit and meditate on your thoughts for at least 10 minutes per day. Stop running away.
These first shows are so childish and puerile I love them. I was 13 when they were broadcast and I can only imagine how much I'd have loved these at the time!
The Curmudgeon Unless you make any comments at all critical of how un-PC these shows are. They certainly get triggered and come out of the woodwork then lol
Yeah it's when people act like you have to pick a side with either Ricky Steve or Karl... even though they are all mates (and still are, there's been no argument or falling out, just went down different creative paths). Personally I think all 3 perfectly compliment eachother and are geniuses in their own rights
Ah so I made this comment two months ago and I'm back. So that's how long it takes me to listen to all the xfm series, podcasts, guide to's... jeez. Wonder what therapy I need
"It's in your eyes" is fucking gold. It's amazing knowing how Karl came about and seeing how quick he was sometimes. I know Ricky "used" him for years but ultimately it was an education in harnessing "talent" that no one else saw (even Karl) and getting the entertainment biz some brilliant naivety that people would love. Cheers to us and thank you Ricky and Karl!
Just reading up on the 'Lost Episodes', before the November 10th 2001 show, and there appears to be an episode where Karl forgets to turn the microphones on, which is funny enough, but Ricky actually references this episode at 0:08 ! Makes me want to listen to those Sep/Oct shows.
Just about to start what must be my 20th run through of these. I first found out about these on Ricky's website blog (before he Tweeted), and they've provided me with laughter, therapy and comfort ever since. They're almost like a time capsule now, which brings up memories of forgotten celebrities or events, or even things like the birth of Ebay. Long live RSK!
+Man Moth I always forget it's this episode that's the Robin/Swan/cock episode. I always assume it's something to do with Robin Ince, until now. Personally I'd call it 'I'd never give a Swan a knob!'
How about you just get on with your work when at work instead of having to have something else to focus on? It's called work for a reason, this should be in your own time. Focus, don't relax at work.
15:48 "'Aven't really done me." Lol! Karl is so concerned about making sure everybody knows he's not gay in these early seasons. He has to make sure he tells London "they didn't really get me there"! Hahahaha!
is this the episode they got in trouble for? can't believe it's been 9 months since I did the rounds on these! I commented below and it doesn't seem that long
At the start “with karl who has turned our microphones on. Apparently a few weeks before this (unrecorded) Karl forgot to turn on the microphones for the show.
I'd give them to the birds that can't fly. After all these years of feeling insecure, they could finally get their revenge.....and rape the other birds in the ass.
Does anyone know what came before these first few XFM episodes? It seems like they (meaning Ricky and Steve with Karl) already have an established rapport and they make several references to previous recordings. Like for example Ricky's famous film review definitely already existed before the "first" series. Asking because obviously it would be awesome to hear them starting this process together before they become totally comfortable messing with Karl.
There's tapes on RU-vid somewhere of really old (well older than this) of Ricky and Steve when they were first on xfm before they had Karl. They make reference to have been 'given Karl' when they came back. My thinking on timeline is them old r&s stuff was before they started to get a bit famous then they came back to xfm and met Karl. There was one old tape I heard where Ricky's on air talking to his mam, think he tricks her into swearing or something before revealing shes live on radio. If there still on here they're worth a listen. Quality is not as good as these but might help your curiosity.
.i don't get why they were so worried about swearing but then straight after a song they were swearing as normal? Either way it's hilarious as always. Thank you so much for the uploads!!!!
I know what you mean, it must just be for comic effect. They say a lot swear words I would have thought would have been too harsh for radio though, like the story about Steve's dad calling his mum a twat!
Doesn't it seem like there's a missing episode zero? This is listed as episode two, but Karl mentions a conflict with Steve over the past three weeks. And in the episode listed as number one, right off the bat Karl gets in a dig on Steve and Ricky says something like "Oh he's done you again!". So when did that first dig happen?
"If I had to give a knob to any bird?" The one question Sir David Attenborough never got asked... I love how Karl seems to be the more mature one in the episode while the other 2 crack bad innuendos...
I have listened to every single show and podcast probably 15 to 20 times, and now I'm just starting my second round of COVID-19 re-listening. And I JUST noticed that for the first time. What you said about them seeming unimpressed with Bowie. It's interesting.
This could never ever be on prime time radio at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon nowadays they would be taken straight off the air and could even risk losing their job in a big front page Jeremy clarkson style controversial drama! And it would be misconstrued and the words will be twisted to make it homophobic and transphobic and sexist and racist and any other community who will get offended and make twitter explode
