Just got my XHDATA, the sensitivity on that thing is insane. Picks up amateurs on 40m and 20m without external antenna in the city center from a balcony with buildings around.
If you add the Roll Up Ant. On the 909S you will hear how SW and SSB should sound like. Agreed, the 808 is the best with the whip but add an Ant. To it and you hear overloading at signal peaks. Both Radios are good at their intended designs. For my use, 909X on the 50ft. SW outside Ant. For portable or sitting on the Porch, the XH-D808.
It looks like the XHDATA wins this time. Thanks for the comparison. I have the XHDATA and the ATS 909...my ATS909 is deaf on telescopic antenna, works great with a longwire. Again...thanks Brian
Signal Hunter, Well, my both ATS 909 are still good on SW, better with a wire, but not better than the XDATA. Thank you for watching my videos, 73, Georgi
I have an old Sangean ATS 909. I purchased a Sony 7600G at about the same time. Both radios were primarily used to listen to SSB weather broadcasts from NMN. They were both excellent for that use. I always expected the Sony to last longer....as it was heavy and built like a tank. The Sangean was mostly plastic. That was not the case however. My Sony lost all sound about fifteen years ago(capacitors?)....and has also suffered from a sticking keypad. My trusty Sangean still works perfectly 22 years later. No problems at all. I still use the Sony with an external speaker.....but the Sangean ATS 909 remains my favorite sweetheart!
So I just ordered the XHData. Amazon seller says 3-6week delivery. (So hopefully it will be the updated version). The Sangean radios, while, maybe not the most sensitive, they ARE high quality, with a proven record of longevity and generally problem-free operation. ( many of the old Realistic ( Radio Shack) radios ate still working great. ( DX-390, DX440, Etc.). What we DONT know is the reliability of the XHData ( and the Radiwow). Tecsun is also in this category. Though they have had an issue or two, they have opened up a Warranty Center here in the U.S., ( for Kaito products too), And really do stand behind their products. And excellent Tech-Support. SO....... We shall see. ❗️ Thanks for posting this. It’s most helpful. 📻🙂
I listen to my Realistic DX-440 whenever I get in the SWL mood. It's 31 years old and has outlasted my Sony 7600 and Grundig G3 which works but has a deteriorating cabinet. I have to hold the antenna on with painter's tape. I love my DX-440.
In X HDATA I got it right, because I did some research before. I can no longer say the same as the purchase of the purchase I made of an AOR AR-DV10. I researched it after the purchase and I didn't really like what they talk about. A lot of polemicabout this scanner.
BS . Sangean input has low impedance , not for short antennas. Could have some matching circuit for short antenna ? Yes . But even without that is on the top of the list of best radios .
