True. There are plenty of villains who would pull a double cross at that point. Good thing she did as well as it actually helps Raimundo's arc. It was important that Raimundo betrayed Wuya when he was still in power. That shows he learned to value his pals over riches. If Wuya had betrayed him from the start, he wouldn't have learned that lesson.
The kinds of evil villains who are most successful are the ones who are fair to the people who work for them. It gives those people more incentive to stay loyal.
@@skylermccloud6230 - Eh, idk. Chase always honored his promises to letter, but not necessarily the true spirit of their agreements. With Wuya, she gave Raimundo literally everything he asked for and wanted. No double-dealing or monkey’s paw action. She promised him wealth and power and she delivered, no questions asked. The only reason Rai betrayed her is bc they both underestimated how much his friends meant to him.
Absolutely Loved Rai form start to finish. Loved Wind as an element. By far was one of the most creative team members. He was stripped of his title. Solo'd all the Xiaolin warriors. Revived Wuya in a matter of days. Then ultimately got the best Redemption and was promoted to team leader immediately after. Ahhh my man Rai.
@@topspur762Omi was physically stronger than Rai I think but in terms of smarts and technique Rai had him beat. Keep in mind the reason why Omi was not made team leader was because he was too cocky and believed he was the best fighter on the team.
@@sirgrantelton1081not only that, it was stated that one of the reasons as of why Ray was chosen as leader instead of a clearly more skilled dragon like Omi was because both of them ended up in the Heylin side, both brace their own darkness at some point, but it was Ray the one that came back to being good by his own sheer will unlike Omi that was forced to return to normal, not beating his own demons himself yet.
Yeah, unfortunately his voice is too recognisable and inflexible, maybe an english accent and a lower register can throw you off like jonathan from mummy and gibson of srmthfg, but still!
honestly, right there, at the end. when he turns down the apprenticeship right at that moment, because he says he isnt ready. thats the moment the man really did go down the path to becoming the leader. he was willing to do whatever it took to atone for his mistakes. his full character arc throughout the series was amazing. PS: wuya was both bad af, and honestly....WAY WAY nicer and more hospitable to rai than jack hahahah. she was even willing...TO GIVE HIM CANADA.
>Is themed after the wind >Wields a sword as a primary weapon >Is odds against someone named Jack >(Temporarily) works for the main villain >Is Brazilian Rai is basically Jetstream Sam before Jetstream Sam came into existence.
To be fair, Wuya did give Raimundo everything he ever wanted. She would have even given him his friends if he asked; maybe as slaves or under a spell, but it’d been worth a try.
She gave him everything to keep him from wanting to go back to the others. The monks one weakness is that they have to all be together to reach their full power. In any episode where the bad guys get the upper hand it was always by separating the team from one or more of them.
@@darkpaw1522 she cannot do Mind control, and if the other three monks weren't willing to join her side, then having them around too would have been intirely to dangerous for her.
@@silence6813 To be fair, she did spend time with him. Probably too much considering he was borderline groomed. She just couldn’t do it as much, she has a life too.
You know what I like about Wuya? She isn't absolutely pure evil and she keeps her end of a promise, Pure evil would've been if she took over the world and then killed Riyu right away because she already got what she wanted.
Even better, just use Haylen magic or force to make the monks into Raymundo’s friends. This is especially true if Wuya knew the Yin or Yang Yo-yo would’ve eventually revealed itself. Just toss them into the Yinyang world, cook for a minute, then bam evil friends.
@@septimusheap925 It’d been a very cool alternative timeline though. And then Raymundo could have everything he ever wanted. Evil Shaolin Warriors with her acting as their “Grand Master Fung”. This forces Jack, Catnappe, Tubbimura, and Vlad to become the next Shaolin apprentices.
I remember when I first saw all this. I was very shocked with how Wuya, some whonis so evil, could look so nice. Now, I still think that, but I'm surprised she followed through with all of her promises.
She is keeping Rai as a willing prisoner. The monks team can defeat any of the heylen warriors when they are whole. But if separated they lose access to their elemental powers and fall apart. So in order to keep her rule she needs to keep Raimundo apart from his friends. She figures if she makes his prison cell seem like a the most fun place he has ever seen, then he will happily agree to stay there forever.
The real reason Raimundo didn't become a Xiaolin apprentice is that if Master Fung hadn't given the young four monks the order to take their Shen Gong Wu and flee the temple grounds instead fighting Mala Mala Jong with him in the very first, Raimundo joining the Heylin Side would've never happened. But NO, Master Fung had to give that stupid order. In other words, he didn't have a choice.
11:33 I see the parallels here with Raimundo accepting to learn from Omi's rank as an apprentice in which we see the role reverse when Omi accepts Raimundo's leadership as Shoku warrior.
When I’m reminded about raimundo betraying the xiaolin side, I at first never thought of it as anything more as raimundos greed, but now that I see the show again, I’ve started to think otherwise. Raimundo wouldn’t have joined from greed alone, he’s not that low, even in season one. What really pushed him to join Wuya was Omi and master Fung, or rather, Fungs decisions and Omis ego and personality. Omi kept insulted and demeaning raimundo, making it seem as if raimundo was inferior just because he was promoted and Rai wasn’t, let’s be honest if you were in raimundos place or If Omi was in Rais place, you’d probably join Wuya too, the difference is raimundo wouldn’t rub it in towards Omi like Omi did to him. And master fung, do I even need to say anything? He’s basically the beginning of why raimundo betrayed them. He chose to not promote Raimundo even though raimundo only wanted to help and was technically doing the honorable thing, which fung decided wasn’t a good thing even though it was a mistake. He could have simply lectured raimundo or something, but no, he didnt even stop Omis ego or anything, HE SHOULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING BUT HE DIDNT. Omis ego was unbearable and the fact raimundo was already upset made things worse, Omi just couldnt shut his ego and mouth up, he didn’t need to rub his promotion to the one person who tried to do a good thing, something he would defend if he was the person to do it, but no, he didn’t. don’t even get me started at the fact he lived at the temple his whole life and still couldn’t understand the concept of ‘a rank doesn’t make up the skill of a warrior’
@@andrewlopez411 that’s because of an annoying concept called favoritism and unnecessary mistrust, sprinkled with a bit(read a lot) of naivety and a stupid belief that every student is the same, listens to the same beliefs, orders, rules, moral principles and values and reactions to things.
I have to agree: Omi drove Raimundo away with his ego. And the bigger insult to injury? Omi continued to think he was justified and great, happily bullying Raimundo and doing things without thinking them over out of the naive belief that they would go well simply because he was a ‘mighty Xiaolin Warrior’. And it ultimately took his attempts at saving Chase Young so he can get promoted to leader to see that his actions had serious consequences, as his absence got the others imprisoned and ultimately killed in one timeline, and them living in exile in another after he stopped Chase. So yeah, while I dislike Omi for his arrogance, I fully believe the finale finally humbled him (not just with Raimundo being promoted instead of him) and he changed for the better afterwards.
@@andrewlopez411Look no further then the whole Evil Omi thing for proof. And to add further insult to injury, two bad timelines, where Omi’s absence got his friends imprisoned and ultimately killed, and another where Fung was imprisoned in the Ying Yang World and the others living on a farm when he stopped Chase Young’s fall.
@@drakematsy7412 Its because he used the advantage of wind during that moment, very good on the writers to show they can be equal but in different elements they have more advantage
This is something that happens very consistently in entertainment. When a character is evil, all of a sudden they become a whole lot more competent. But when they become good, they are scaled down to match the other heroes. Ever noticed in a video game when you are able to obtain an enemy weapon, it is suddenly no longer as overpowered as when the enemy was using it?
Bro Wuya’s resurrection scene was so Gangster! Her laugh, the way she walked all over the MC’s, her first line! “In the flesh”. No big speech, just got shit done quick. What a great Villain 🙌🏽
"Toys? Money? Canada? Name it and it's yours." "I WANT MY FRIENDS!" F for Raimundo for repairing his mistake and saving the world. Truly my favorite arc of the show, props for the writers.
Wuya being hot honestly surprised me back in the day, like to subvert the hag we've been seeing up to this point was actually this hot witch the whole time.
As a Kid I wanted Omi to be the leader. But the older I got the more I realized, Rai was definitely the best choice. And the show also heavily focused on him as the seasons went on. I will never forget him fighting Bean, Chase, Wuya, and every Villian on his own in the Showdown where Dojo was a princess. That shit was cold blooded man.
It was better storytelling to have Wuya actually deliver on everything she promised, have him get it, enjoy it, then realize it was never what he really wanted because it allowed for him to grow as a character and actually make the choice to be a good person instead of being forced back on the side of the heroes because he didn't get what he wanted from the villains. In most stories that's what usually happens because most writers over look that crucial character development for a neater, quicker "hero turns villain and then becomes a hero again when the moment is right" storyline. Granted it's done that way in most stories because it tells a cleaner narrative about evil being wrong and good being the only option, but this story tells a truer narrative where yes, when you choose the wrong path you will often find you've gained everything you wanted- you just don't realize what the price really is until you've already got it.
I remember when I was a kid when I was watching this cartoon only for Reimondo cause I was having a crush on him knowing damn well he has an evil side inside of him but then I started watching this cartoon for it's own content The reason why he turned evil is because he was a teenager and he has soft spot in him
I'm not going to lie and I know I'm not the only one but i really wanted to see a fifht between Omi and Raimundo The build up was too good. Raimundo :"Nothing escapes you, Omi" Omi: "Not even you"
I always like this idea of characters turning to the dark side, when being good seems like it's not good enough anymore. Until they realise that there are also consequences being evil as well and they change back sides for obvious reasons.
The use of the Serpent’s Tail and the Reversing Mirror was genius. The writers were very creative compared to…the Backscratcher of Solidification from Xiaolin Chronicles…
***Personal chef, and. Everything else he could've possibly EVERRRRR wanted..... Except **his** friends... People would TRADE the WORLD...... for *one,* or the other.
I wish they kept arch going by wuya noticing his loneliness and told him to get their dna and she makes evil clones of them ultimately they are too evil for ray and the same thing happens
Kinda how i view us people go bad at times. People get told annoying things over and over. They *snap* and change. Then, do more ridiculous/harmful/evil things. I saw convicts state they did the act do to the lack of care and more treatment of hate and inequity. Guess what, thats what Rai did too.
