@@Antasma1 People probably thought Dashi was just some Buddist monk that lived in a village practicing meditation and enlightenment, then they see this guy and realize he's just some laidback guy who sleeps around and acting like a normal guy.
Wait that's Tom Kenny? I didn't recognize him. Here i was driving myself insane trying to figure out why he sounded familiar. You saved me from doing a Google search.
Honestly the more I think on it Dashi actually reminds me of oogway from kung fu panda. Both of them were wise but fully admitted to not being all knowing, both were tricksters but knew how to get lessons through to people, and the both of them knew how to kick some serious ass when the chips were down
It's not just them. Most martial arts masters in media are depicted as not only being wise, but major piss-takers. Splinter from TMNT Sensei Wu from Ninjago Master Roshi and other teachers from Dragon Ball. The list likely goes on.
I'm pretty sure Omi just gave it a name. Master Fung in the first episode said the first Xiaolin Showdown was Wuya vs Dashi, but then again they completely forget to mention Monk Guan and Chase in that same event so not surprised the show rewrites itself as it continues. And considering Dashi's reaction to the changing of the environment, maybe the show does count this as the first showdown.
Shit. That's like how Fry made a baby with his own grandma, making himself his own grandpa (which Xiaolin Showdown references!). Or how Eren Jaeger makes his father kill the Reiss family and steal the Founding Titan.
This is what grandmaster should be like; Wise, laid back and down to earth. They understand there are things they can do and a lot of things they cannot do. By fully accepting this, they have more control over them self.
Spolier alert! For anyone who's wondering how Omi got back in the regular timeline, he used Orb of Tornami to freeze himself until Wuya's castle would grow & then he'd be free.
If you rewatch the first episode where Wuya raises her palace, you can actually see a brief glimpse of frozen Omi flying through the air. It's not explained until the next episode when he comes back though.
@@YogawithUmi I've always wondered how many people actually see the stereotyped characters until they're told? Because I didnt see Jynx or Mr. Popo until someone told me, and I never saw Omi or Dashi that way until you mentioned the comparison. (I always viewed Omi like a yellow smileyface or a Simpsons character, never connected it might be because he's asian)
@Regulus Basically a Bootstrap paradox where later knowledge turns out to be the source of knowledge in the past that would become passed down to become that later knowledge.
What confuses me is Dashi is surprised by the world changing for the Showdown. So he didn't make the magic that warps the world for every Showdown? Then who did?
@darksideofevil13 Maybe he didn't know he made such power in the wu since he never had trouble with anyone fighting over them directly. Wu-Ya.. well.. I can't say directly, but she was the only fighting for them.
@@EVERYWHERE_MAN @EVERYWHERE MAN well yeah that one I know. I'm also talking about the alternative timeline where Chase young is good Maybe Master monk Quan did it from the power of chi or something in the original timeline
My theory is that they must sacrifice something to become immortal Chase young his soul Dashi gave up his chance to make shen gong wu I think maybe he died shortly after the final battle thus why he retired and why his ghost looks the same Monk Guan his hair
@@aladinocave6599. Possible, that Dashi being some sort of spectre , didn't see her as she appeared physically. Like he saw her "true form" as that purple little blob. Because deep down that is what Wuya is inside. Which I have a slight theory that Wuya all along has been a powerless purple ghost. Dashi merely found a way to take away her physical form so that she can't use her witch powers anymore.
When you think about it, Dashi was practically a god. He was able to create something that can imprison an all powerful demon witch out of a pebble and could even create magic artifacts that can wield the elements, travel through time, harness energy, undo mistakes, etc.
Yeah people suggested it should have been multiple monks. Especially since some of them have names of people? Did he name them after old friends and what not?
You're right about that. Dashi must have seriously been an op master because everyone goes after his reality warping objects and the guy seemingly has nothing he can't overcome. I don't think I saw him ever really struggle either. He's far above everyone else. Maybe even all combined
@@darksideofevil13Maybe the names are of kids from his locality who asked for/gave him ideas for the artifacts. I think that would fit his character just as well
I never understood how a bunch of immortals make it through to 21 century in different time lines while Dashi is somehow always dead This is like saying hashirama somehow died while still looking young
@@JohnDoe-tl4gm In all seriousness, this might be true. Uncle in Avatar had achieved a same thing where he ended up just going to the spirit world and living there. Granted, I'm not sure if Uncle going to the spirit world is just a way for the writers to censor that Uncle "died" of old age.
I remember there being a ton of fan theories as to why Master Monk Guan was immortal but Dashi wasn't and I always liked the explanation of the old Chinese myths of immortality. The general idea is that it was claimed in Chinese mythology that a person could attain an immortal state through perfect diet, exercise and meditation. This made an ideal fanon explanation that both explains Monk Guan's ageless abilities and why Dashi isn't around anymore, as even if he knew it would make him immortal I cannot see Dashi sticking to a diet or exercise plan.😅
My theory is he's been using parts of his chi to make the shen gong wu and would have been immortal otherwise. That's why he popped up as a ghost in the puzzle box
@@koichidignitythief7429 Chase isn't going to follow the intense lifelong discipline to do it the traditional way. Heck him doing it the "easy" way should be more proof of his villainy.
You know it’s funny first I would like to start by admitting that I was one of those Shaolin showdown fans who wanted omi to become the leader or at least to be the strongest out of all of them but you could clearly see how it was planned from the jump that Raymundo would be the leader at the end of the series because grandmaster dashi acted like a more mature Raymundo
I somehow doubt it was planned. I think the only thing that was plsnned is it wouldn’t be Omi. As he was clearly being built up to be bigger than the leader of a single group
...It occurs to me during the fight with Wuya that Dashi, Guan, and Chase represented Wind, Fire, and Earth, three of the 4 elements, but there was no one to represent Water until Omi showed up.
@@huntress1123 I never said she was. I was saying that without a 4th member representing the 4th element, the Xiaolin side was incomplete. Once Omi showed up, he represented Water, Dashi's flighty aloofness represents Air, Guan's strength and earnest nature represents Earth, and Chase's aggressive ambition represents Fire.
Omi dedication make him deserve something far greater than a title. He was chosen to forge history itself. To invent Shaolin showdowns. To be in every moment that shaped history. Wich actually elevates him to legend among Dashi ,Guan and Chase. The time traveling monk.
Omi legend would been known thru history. As the fourth monk present in major events. He appears and dissapears thru history. Some one who even tho appears centuries apart still looks like he hadnt age at all
@@andrewlopez411No, it makes more sense if it was Omi because of their appearance like the same. The both have big egos however omi is much bigger. And in future I believe they stated omi is grandmaster too.
So Omi created a Bootstraps Paradox because Dashi didn't create the term Xiaolin Showdown or the term Guan Yi Tempai but neither did Omi so both terms have no origin low key kinda crazy.
Wait...if he invented the Shen Gon Wu then surely he created the illusion magic that creates the Showdowns? If he doesn't know what a Xiaolin Showdown is then he didn't invent said magic. So how did one between him and Omi happen?
This show had great attention to continuity, past Dojo says he hid the Wings of Tanabi down a well, and several episodes later Wuya, Cyclops, and Jack find the Wings of Tanabi in a well.
You know, it hadn't occurred to me back when I first watched this, but Dashi's personality actually feels a lot like Raimundo's. A bit ironic given the storyline at the time, but appropriate given then ending.
I freakin’ LOVE Xaolin showdown man. Such a good show, from the shen gong woo to Dojo being able to sense them to the whole heylin side it’s so good man there’s so much more but I’ll writing an essay in this comment section 😭
Almost feels like Raimundo is the reborn master Dashi. Similar personalities and Raimundo is a more competent and powerful warrior than people give him credit for. It's possible he's just Dashi's reincarnation and the spirit out of the box was just a manifestation of his past life considering it was Raimundo who opened it.
I feal like a real opportunity was missed. Jack used the sands of time to take a 1 yr vacation. And omi just has to go back home right away even though it will feal like he never left. Dashi, wuya, and good chase young were such great characters you could have made a spin off series on it...
4:30-4:50 I love this argument! And something i just realized is that Master Dashi was right, they hid the sands of time Shengong wu in the place where the monks Trained (Europe) so Dojo must have gotten that mixed up that they hid it in Egypt just like the Xialolin warriors did when they first set out to find it.
My favorite scene from that episode was when Omi explained to them that he basically just froze himself with the Orb of Tsunami and their faces with the sound effects always get me 💀💀💀
What's weird is that dashi says he doesn't have a way to the future but the sands of time was used in his showdown with Omi and that's it's main purpose
As a kid i loved that el guan yi tempai to start the fight and the xiaoling shiwdown where paradoxes created by omi. Like dthe monks are like "why we scream this? Because the first guy to do it scream it and sounded cool.
5:41 Dashi s way of fighting her reminds me how wuya likes to play with the monks before defeating them . Don t know why these 2 don t get shipped that much. 😂 wish he was still around like the other 2 , have a reunion. how funny their conversations with wuya would have been😂 bet at some point in the past they 've regretted sending that attractive witch in the box.
I'd like to that Omi was secretly Dashi's descendant, hence why Master Fung taught Omi before anyone else and why sometimes Omi would learn at a much faster rate than his peers (Except Raimundo later)
Something I still felt would’ve been great is if it turned out that Dashi was an older Omi sent back to the past. Imagine how hilarious it would’ve been that Omi finally managed to get slang and stuff after years of hanging out with Raimundo.
02:11 -You mean a shaolin showdown? -Yeah....that's a good name for it Time paradox, Omi created rhe shaolin showdown, this show was ahead of it's time
I see people questioning how Dashi isn't immortal when Guan is. And the how is a fair question in Guan's place. But I feel like the "why" is fairly obvious. Dashi seems laidback, and he is, but more than that he seems at peace with himself and the world around him. He's not immortal because he's just not interested in subverting the natural life cycle. That he is able to contemplate and embrace his own end in a way that none of the other ancient characters have is, I believe, what makes him a master.
