Xperia Z Full frame+LCD replacement review

This video details the frame assembly replacement (Frame + LCD screen + Touch Panel) on a Xperia Z.
I recommend watching the full video before tempting to do this at home.
Full assembly replacement VS LCD screen and / or Touch Panel only replacement?
Pros:
- The price is not so much higher than a LCD + Touch Panel only assembly
- You don’t have to remove the old LCD screen from the original frame which is a hard part
- You miss the risk of damaging the original frame of the phone while removing the LCD screen
- It gives a 2nd life to your phone for a reasonable price and less risk
Cons:
- Such an assembly is often not a sony original part: the quality of the buttons for example is clearly not the same, and it's one thing you will always see if you don’t use use a case cover
- Full Waterproof is no more a guaranty (essentially because of the microphone and speaker protection which has to be unbounded, and then re-bonded)
- The reusability of the sticker of the edges protections is not a guaranty: it doesn’t impact waterproof, so you can replace it with strong double sided adhesive tape (it’s not the same for the back panel, which need an original adhesive sticker - see details below-)

Be aware that you need to replace the back door adhesive sticker wich is not reusable once the back panel is removed:

Thanks so much, was easy following your video. Not as hard as i imagined. When i put it back together, my mic wasn't working, after many attempts at diagnosing the problem, squeezing the mic back onto the cable (although it wasn't detached) seemed to sort it out.

wow that took me a long time lol....thanks! some things were hard tho....taking the sim tray out isnt in the video and I got mother board stuck and broke a component putting it back, but luckily it still works....need to show some things how to remove

To Elvijs Gravāns: I've been asking myself the same question. If you only change the lcd screen, you'll have to remove the old lcd screen without damaging the frame... ...wich seemed to me more risky, moreover the fact that as the lcd+frame assembly is not that much expensive. In the other hand, if you only change the lcd, you'll not have to unmount and then remount some of the internal and external parts. Putting on a new lcd to existing frame doesn't seem complicated (you have to buy the adhesive sticker if it's not included), It's only removing the old one that seem complicated: I didn't did it, you can watch other videos to make your own idea...

Super, vielen Dank funktioniert bestens! Aber Achtung, der Lautsprecher muss schon in der Metallkammer drin sein, wenn die Metallklammer schon eigeklebt ist und man dann versucht den Lautsprecher (11:00) einzulegen, stören die Klammern und man kann den Lautsprecher daran kaputt machen! Also erst einsetzen dann kleben :)

Hi! I have a simple question, should I buy lcd+digitzer or frame+lcd+digitizer as you did? There is like 15 eur difference, my frame looks very good, but I was wondering how complicated it is if you dont have frame assembly with screens included? Or there's not much of a difference between those two?

I want to know, can I just remove the front frame (the one attached with the screen) without opening the back of my phone? I mean if I could just replace it as easy as I replace just an LCD screen.

Hi! Your video is awesome! thank you very much! :) Only one problem i have after assembling, the earpiece is not working properly, even if you aren't making a call, you can hear like the earpiece is working all the time and when i am making a call the sound is like "electrified" a lot of "bzzz,bzz,bzz" and sometimes i loose my network completly and that never happend before i opened the phone :( Any ideas on that ??

+StaryLis Maybe you can check if the speaker (which is under the mother board) is in the good orientation... (3:42 in the video) and if the mother board is well mounted... It could be a problem with the connection between the speaker and the mother board...

+1218kw Thanks i.ve sorted that, it was like that becouse when i took out the earpiece from the old frame i left the silver thing that ws holding the earpiece... But unfortunetly i've discovered bigger problem, i can't change brightness of the screen, it's on the darkest possible i guess and i can;t make it brighter in any way :/

mrtnph The metal clips of the antenne wire are not that easy to Mount: I tried several ways, and I finally succeed only for 2 of the 3 clips... In fact the one I didn't succeed was because a small plastic part of the frame was broken...You can note that the orientation of the clips is not very clear: try the 2 possible orientations.If you don't manage to remount the clips you can eventualy fix them with a small adhesive part: remember that the purpose of this clips is only to retain the antenna to leave enought room for the battery...

i want to do that but the LCD, the frame with the LCD assembly of the T-mobile xperia Z C6606 are the same of the others xperia´s like the LT36 or L36 because I don’t know if the parts are the same for all the xperia Z phones

Did you test the new screen like in the beginning of the video? If it worked well, check the screen and battery connections or the buttons placement and there connection. Verify nothing has been damaged inside. It's possible that the button is not in it's right place as it is very sensible mounting, and so the phone doesn't 'feel' when you press it. I didn't tried, but I think the phone won't turn on if the battery connection is bad, even if a charger is plugged in. Hope this could help, good luck! stay in touch!

Hello guys I broke my display long time ago. I bought new phone after that but few days ago I saw few videos and I decided to fix the old one on my own. I bought Sony Xperia z screen with frame and today I started fixing it. As in the video is shown I checked the new display. The display lights up an the screen is working but the touch screen it's not working. I cannot do anything with it. If anyone knows what I can do please let me know. I would be really thankful.

You can check if everything is well connected on your new LCD screen by itself: especially the little flex cable with 4 conductor on the back of the screen... If this doesn't resolve anything, it may be a LCD assembly default (or damage during transport) or a more tricky problem with the main board... In the worst case, you can try an exchange or a refund from the LCD seller... Good luck!

Hi I've tried to fix my phone just as you have done on video but when I start switch I new LCD and comes with picture but touchsreen does not work :( I have bought so faulty Lcd ..?

i did the replacement but now my phone battery is not getting charged. when i turn on power it shows display for 2 to 3 sec and again shutdowns. plz let know if any advice
